Klarius, the UK-based manufacturer of exhausts, catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters and mounting kits for the automotive aftermarket, has been accredited as an MMI Certified Data Supplier (MCDS). The MCDS programme, run by MAM Software, is designed to benefit suppliers, factors and garages by encouraging the production of accurate electronic catalogue data.
Leading Italian brake brand, Brembo, has announced plans to invest 32 million euros in an aluminium brake caliper manufacturing facility in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon, just outside of Monterrey, Mexico. According to the company, the plant will include a new aluminium foundry and machining facility capable of producing two million calipers per year destined for the company’s customers in the NAFTA region. The foundry will have a melting capacity of 14,000 tons. The facility will cover 31,500 square metres and when fully operational is expected to generate an annual turnover of 100 million euros. The plant is expected to commence initial production in 2016 and be fully operational by the end of 2018.
Euro Car Parts has appointed Sukhbir Kapoor as vice president (VP) for Supply Chain and E-commerce. From now until the end of November it is asking garages to take part in its National Garage Survey and answer six straightforward questions that will allow it to better understand the needs of garages, in order to assist them develop their businesses, for the long term benefit of the entire aftermarket.
Euro Car Parts has secured one of the largest industrial facilities in the Midlands with a view to turning it into one of the UK’s largest parts distribution centres. According to the company, the project is being funded by investment from parent company LKQ Corporation and will secure over 1,350 jobs for the local area and an additional 2,000 jobs in branches and head office.

Automotive retailer Halfords has relaunched its car parts business under the Car Parts Direct name. This rebranded service offers consumers the option of ordering products in-store, online or via the Halfords mobile app, with next working day or express delivery and rapidly-filled in-store orders – Halfords says 66 per cent of in-store orders will be delivered within 90 minutes. More than 130,000 individual products will be offered through Car Parts Direct, and customers can choose between delivery to their home, place of work or nearest Halfords outlet.

Peter Sephton, who joined as Parts Alliance group CEO in August 2013 has announced some senior appointments. Sephton is aligning the four businesses into two regional alliances, the Western Alliance formed from GMF and CES and the Eastern Alliance, formed by SCMF and Allparts. Automotive part supplier First Line has increased its range of products for technicians with turbo hoses. The company reasons that the growing number of vehicles fitted with forced induction engines makes the addition of turbo hoses a “natural development”. The company includes more than 400 reference numbers in this product category, including all of the most popular European vehicles.
Ford Retail’s UK parts division, @first Parts, has reported an annual turnover of over £100 million in 2013, the first time since its launch in 2004. According to the company, overall parts sales saw an increase of 14 per cent year-on-year, whist the Trade, Bodyshop and Ford Dealers divisions reported an annual growth of 13 per cent, 22 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.
German car parts supplier Mahle Group acquired all of the shares in its former joint venture company Mahle IPL Limited. Mahle had already been a majority partner in the joint venture with a share of about 60 percent.
