The Federation of Engine Re-manufacturers (FER) successfully hosted its 2016 Conference, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Dinner with the federation addressing the major threats and opportunities affecting the industry.

Held at Jury’s Inn, Birmingham on Saturday 8 October, the event welcomed a selection of speakers from Delphi, MS Motorservice International GmbH and BTN Turbo, offering a valuable insight into the pros and cons of developing technology and how it directly affects member businesses.

Successful ‘Training Days’ for TerraClean

Randstad Ltd has successfully held a three-day national training course hosted by Gary Wood of The Diesel Doctor with the aim to support independent garages on the effective use of the TerraClean DPF / EGR cleaning tool.

Beginning 27 September, the seminars were open to all independent garages and mechanics. Numbers were purposely kept small to provide a more personal approach with 60 people attending over the three days.

Micheldever renews The Parts Alliance supply deal in £8 million agreement

The Parts Alliance has announced that Micheldever Tyre Services Ltd has renewed is supply with the firm for a third term. The new contract, worth in excess of £8 million, will run until the end of 2018 and appoints The Parts Alliance for the supply of all vehicle parts, covering Braking, Steering and Suspension, Emission and Service Repair products.

Mark Harley, retail operations director for Micheldever Tyre Services Ltd, said: “The Parts Alliance has the largest network for automotive parts distribution. They supply a full range of OE Quality products, deliver hourly to our centres which is vital to our business and has helped us provide our customers with outstanding service.”

The Parts Alliance has announced that the Garage Essentials equipment brochure, originally developed by GSF Car Parts, will be made available through all members from the next issue (Autumn 2016) due out in October.

Since GSF Car Parts joined The Parts Alliance, by acquisition in September 2015, Garage Essentials has continued to showcase the best of what’s available from GSF Car Parts’ branches whilst Toolchest has done a similar job for The Parts Alliance’s other members.

Euro Car Parts has been presented with two accolades at the inaugural Workshop Power Awards, including Large Motor Factor of the Year trophy. Held at the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on 1 September, ECP head of communications & PR, Paul Baylis, and brand & communications manager, Áine McCarthy, also collected the trophy for Suspension Product Supplier of the Year, as well as framed certificates for being Highly Commended in the Filter Supplier, Garage Cleaning Product and Extra Mile Award categories.

Brembo reports 1H sales of 1.1468 billion, EBIT up 42%

Leading Italian brake manufacturer, Brembo has reported revenues of 1,146.8 million euros, up 10 per cent compared with the first half of 2015 (+12.2 per cent on a like-for-like exchange rate basis). During the same period, pre-tax profits (EBIT) grew +42.9 per cent to 173.3 million euros.

UK drivers spend £21.1 billion on service and repair (including tyres) every year

The latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that British cars are among the best maintained in the world, with UK motorists spending a collective £21.1 billion a year on servicing and repair. The data, which was released on the eve of the inaugural Automechanika Birmingham, forms the basis of the first official industry analysis of the UK automotive aftermarket. It also comes at the same time that Sainsbury’s bank has released data suggesting the average annual cost of running a car is around £2,197.42, 22 per cent – or £622 – less than 2013. The main reason for this change is that the cost of fuel has fallen by 37.8 per cent during this period.

Parts Alliance CEO shortlisted for entrepreneur award

Peter Sephton, chief executive of The Parts Alliance, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

He is one of 34 leaders from businesses across the Midlands who will compete in the regional final on Tuesday, 14 June, at Birmingham Council House.

‘Growing concern’ over use of non-OE parts – RMI Bodyshops
