Leeds tyre dealer to skydive for Motor Neurone charity

Charles English, managing director/owner of Alba Tyres in Leeds, will take part in the ‘Only Fools Jump In’ team charity skydive on 1 April to raise a total of £20,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). Funds raised will support people suffering from MNDA in the Yorkshire area and ongoing research; English’s support of the charity is motivated in part by his godson, James’s loss of his father-in-law to the disease last year. Cam Systems mourns company secretary Sue Fowler

Cam Systems company secretary, Sue Fowler has died following a “strong and unwavering” battle with cancer. The IT systems company said that Fowler “will be hugely missed by all her colleagues, customers and suppliers, and the company sends its sincere condolences to her family at this very difficult time.” Fowler joined Cam Systems in June 1988 and her gregarious personality quickly won her many friends and contacts in the industry. Mike Allen, managing director of Cam Systems, says: “Sue had that natural ability to bring out the best in people. Her ebullient and resolute personality ensured she conducted her role and responsibilities at Cam with utter professionalism, and she was determined to continue come what may during her illness. We will miss her tremendously.” The company said that condolences would be welcomed over email at info@cam-systems.co.uk.

Cam Systems on show with EDP to improve fleet visibility

Cam Systems, who specialises in providing software solutions to the independent tyre industry, is joining forces with EDP at Reifen Essen this June to highlight its Fleet Inspection and Fleet Management link into the Call Logging and Document Manager modules on Cam’s UniSerV platform. The integration of EDP’s fleet systems into the UniSerV commercial platform will provide tyre operators with greater visibility of fleet operations.

Cambrian Tyres is investing “substantially” in the development of a wholesale customer relations management (CRM) and virtualised server package with Cam Systems. Link Tyre adopts Cam’s UniSerV

Link Tyre Sales Ltd, based in Dewsbury, is introducing UniSerV from Cam Systems to its business. The company signed up for the system after witnessing the extensive benefits of the UniSerV platform in call logging, customer policy and contract management, integrated Casing Management and improved breakdown form processing at the UniSerV roadshow hosted by Cam Systems in October 2011.

Ashton Tyres the latest to introduce Cameo

Cam Systems’ Cameo suite will provide the platform for Wigan car and commercial tyre operator Ashton Tyres’ retail operation. The company says adopting the system will aid the expansion of the operation currently taking place, having completed a new building to house its commercial operation adjacent to its existing site. Director John Philbin sought advice from industry peers on software systems to suit his purposes: “Everyone I spoke to recommended Cameo. “Cam Systems is constantly developing the platform and is the market leader in innovation in the industry. The efficiencies Cameo delivers will enable our team to be more productive and we will save on hard costs.”

MOT decision positive for motorists, says HiQ

The HiQ fast fit chain has applauded the Government’s decision to back down on plans to change MOT test frequency – a measure it said would “hit the pockets of motorists harder than ever.” HiQ says Transport Secretary Justine Greening’s statement that the Government would retain the 3-1-1 arrangement and work with the industry to focus on the standards of MOT testing stations and garages is “welcome news”, as the company aims to position itself as a category leader in self-regulation and transparency.

TEAM Systems offers tyre labelling update

Devon based IT specialists TEAM Systems is offering a range of systems and services designed to incorporate November 2012's forthcoming tyre labelling legislative requirements. TEAM explained that a graphic (pictogram) is displayed at the point of sale so retail customers can view and be sure the tyre they are buying conforms to the new directive, plus they will receive the relevant information on their printed sales invoice.

VMware allows companies to invest in a robust virtualised processing environment that the company says is flexible and able to deliver greater scope for growth. VMware allows businesses to run multiple virtual machines, housing applications such as Cameo, CRM and UniSerV on as few as two physical units.

Bridgestone against MOT changes

Bridgestone has added its voice to the argument against the proposed changes to the MOT test schedule, suggesting that the potential 2012 change in the interval from one to two years could compromise road safety. Andy Dingley, communications manager at Bridgestone UK, said: “We know that a large proportion of motorists do not check their tyres regularly, and the MOT has proven to be very effective in highlighting tyre problems. The decision to change the MOT interval to two years throws up a lot of issues, primarily the inevitable increase in mileage between tyre checks.

Cam Systems supports “no change” to MOT test frequency law

Cam Systems has called for no change to the MOT test, joining industry bodies such as the NTDA and TyreSafe and companies such as HiQ and Klarius in the campaign against the UK governments proposed lengthening of the time between required tests. The software solutions provider to the independent tyre industry is also urging customers to go online and petition on behalf of the “no change” movement.
