PRA welcomes Chancellor’s stance on police budgets and fuel duty freeze

With forecourt crime costing the economy an estimated £40million a year, petrol retailers across England and Wales have been threatened by police authorities refusing to investigate ‘drive-offs’* and other forecourt crimes if budget cuts were implemented.

Brian Madderson, Chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) comments, “The PRA welcomes the announcement of the maintenance of police budgets, following news that the Home Office recently established a Forecourt Crime Senior Steering Group with funding for at least 12 months.

Glass’s: budget rewards lower CO2 cars; older vehicles undertaxed

Analysts from Glass’s vehicle pricing guide have applauded the simplification of road tax announced in the recent budget and appeared supportive of measures to effective reward newer, lower CO2 vehicles. However, they also said that older vehicles are undertaxed:

RMI also voices opposition to MOT extension

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI), which represents retail business across the automotive sector including franchised dealers and independent garages, added to the NTDA’s objections its strong opposition to the proposed MOT change. The RMI believes the change could only harm the UK’s road safety record.

PRA welcomes Budget’s fuel duty freeze, ‘disappointed’ no cut

NTDA to challenge MOT changes on ‘road safety’ grounds

The NTDA plans to challenge at the consultation phase the UK government’s proposal to extend from three to four years the deadline for a new car’s first MOT. Chancellor George Osborne announced today that the Government is exploring the options, with the proposed changes to become part of the government’s forthcoming Motoring Service Strategy.

FTA warns chancellor over fuel duty

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is warning the chancellor that failing to freeze or cut fuel duty in the Budget could sabotage the country’s economic growth. The Association, which has 14,700 members in the logistics industry, says falling fuel prices have been a major factor in the country’s recovery.

AA challenges political parties over fuel duty

AA research reveals that the UK continues to levy the highest level of road fuel tax in the EU – despite four years of a fuel duty freeze. Analysis of road fuel tax levels in Europe shows that, despite UK fuel duty being frozen at 57.95p since March 2011, drivers in this country still pay the biggest chunk (69 per cent) per litre than those in other European countries.

Stephen McKeown wins Formula 1 Era Superbike Championship on Avon Tyres

The Formula 1 Era Superbike champion has been crowned, and Stephen McKeown was helped to his title by Avon Tyres, the sponsor of the series. McKeown took the Irish and Ulster Championships of the series on his Aprilia RSV1000 Mille, with eight wins and two second places during the season. This marks the first time a major international series has been won on Avon tyres since the 1990s.
