Bridgestone to appoint new Europe tech centre MD

Bridgestone’s newest passenger transport commercial vehicle tyre, the U-AP 001, will be available in the UK from April. The urban bus and coach specialist product, designated by the first letter in its name as part of Bridgestone’s new nomenclature convention, is an all-position tyre developed for city environments. The manufacturer has also upgraded the load capacity of its European M788 Evo tyre, the “backbone” of its bus and coach tyre offering, in order to cope with the heavier weight of Euro VI vehicles.
Bridgestone has announced three new US-based marketing appointments within its Bridgestone Commercial Solutions business. Matt Loos has been promoted to director of truck and bus marketing, Michelle Lane has been promoted to director of off-the-road marketing, and Cassandra Kilareski has joined the Bridgestone Commercial Solutions marketing team as senior manager of marketing communications and digital.
Bridgestone has called the 2014 Commercial Vehicle Show “our most significant opportunity of the entire year”, announcing its intention to display its Total Tyre Care fleet services from its large stand. Its three tyre management pillars, Total Tyre Life, Total Tyre Services and Total Tyre Systems will be the most prominent visual features in the overall stand design, which will also boast a golf simulator, designed to display Bridgestone’s sports products at an industry show for the first time.

The latest annual results from Bridgestone Corporation show a rise in sales, operating income and net income, although the latter was pared back by fines linked to antitrust cases and the cost of product recalls during the year, including the 1.2 million tyre recall announced in Japan in November 2013. The company also anticipates that sales and operating income will further increase in 2014.
Earlier today, Bridgestone shared news that it has entered into a plea agreement with the US Department of Justice on antitrust activities and accepted a $425 million fine. But it omitted to mention that the amount to be paid is so large because this isn’t the first time Bridgestone has been found guilty of price-fixing in the United States. In a statement published yesterday, the Department of Justice confirmed that Bridgestone’s failure to disclose its participation when pleading guilty to other violations in October 2011 was a “factor in determining the $425 million fine.”
On 13 February, Bridgestone Corporation entered into a plea agreement with the US Department of Justice; this deal will see the company plead guilty to an antitrust conspiracy related to the sale of automotive anti-vibration rubber products. Bridgestone will also pay a US$425 million fine, and says it now intends to “take appropriate disciplinary action against certain responsible employees” in accordance with applicable corporate standards.
The winners of the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence 2014 have been announced, and Continental has walked away with awards in two of the five regular categories. In addition to being named Tire Manufacturer of the Year, the German firm was recipient of the Tire Manufacturing Innovation of the Year award for its ContiLifeCycle facility in Hannover.
