Bridgestone has announced two new Mercedes-Benz original equipment fitments. The new Mercedes-Benz GLA and C-Class will roll out of the factory and be sold globally on Bridgestone rubber.

Farmers are well aware that maintaining low tyre inflation pressure is essential to minimise soil compaction. However, since a tyre’s recommended pressure varies depending on tyre size, tractor speed and payload, it is not always easy to keep track of the correct information. That is why Bridgestone has developed a user-friendly smartphone app that tells farmers in an instant the minimum tyre pressure they can use in specific conditions. As such, Bridgestone believes the app goes a long way towards helping farmers protect their soil, and boost the performance, productivity and working life of their VT-Tractor tyres.
Following a complete overhaul, Bridgestone Corporation’s global website is now suited to browsing with smartphones and tablets. Bridgestone says the redesigned site features automatic page layout adjustment to match the user’s viewing environment. Other new additions to the bridgestone.com site include an ‘About Bridgestone’ section that provides a one-page overview to facilitate understanding of the Bridgestone Group, and improved search functions and site navigation.
Honda builds vehicles at nine manufacturing facilities in the US, and has received original equipment tyres from Bridgestone Americas for many years. To honour the tyre maker’s green efforts, at its 22nd annual Environmental, Safety and Ergonomics Symposium, Honda acknowledged Bridgestone’s Wilson (North Carolina) tyre plant with three ‘Green Factory Environmental Achievement Recognitions’. Honda recognised the Wilson facility in three categories: energy reduction, natural resources and pollution prevention.
In 2007, the Central American nation of Costa Rica set itself the goal of becoming the world’s first carbon neutral country, a feat it aimed to achieve by 2021. Bridgestone de Costa Rica (BSCR) has supported this ambition and set itself the goal of achieving C-Neutral certification by the Costa Rican government. It has worked towards this via a number of projects, including the installation of LED lights and solar lamps, switching to greener chemical products and implementing a carpooling programme. Last year it introduced nitrogen vulcanisation, replacing less energy-efficient hot water. As a result of these and other efforts, CO2 emissions at BSCR sank by 923 tons year-on-year in 2013, a 4.14 per cent reduction.
On 1 December, Bridgestone Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd was recipient of a ‘Thailand Automotive Quality Award’ (TAQA) – Outstanding Satisfaction for Tyre’ award, a distinction given only to companies who have received a TAQA award for five consecutive years. The award was presented by Pramode Vidtayasuk, Thailand’s Vice-Minister for Industry, at a ceremony in Bangkok.
Fabio Fossen has been appointed president of Bridgestone Brazil, succeeding Ariel Depascuali, who is retiring after more than 15 years with the company. Fossen comes to Bridgestone from Coca Cola Femsa, and his main role will be to lead Bridgestone’s expansion and modernisation in Brazil.

Bridgestone secured “significant new fleet business” at the NEC’s Euro Bus Expo 2014, the company states. The tyre manufacturer said it had demonstrated its “flexible tyre service”, and “consistency of supply”, rather than talking solely about tyres. In showing such features as maintenance and support programmes, provision of retread products and simplicity of invoicing, Bridgestone’s fleet operations manager Matt Millington said that the Euro Bus Expo presence could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the bus and coach team.
Bridgestone Americas has opened its giant off-road radial tyre facility in Aiken County, South Carolina. On 10 November Bridgestone reported group net sales of 2.665 trillion yen (£14.586 billion; 18.542 billion euros; US$23.137 billion) for the first nine months of 2014. Sales were up 2.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2013. Operating income amounted to 342.468 billion yen (£1.873 billion; 2.382 billion euros; $2.970 billion), up 7.4 per cent. Net income totaled 225.670 billion yen (£1.234 billion; 1.569 billion euros; $1.957 billion), up a strong 15.2 per cent compared with the first nine months of 2013.
