The tyre market in Costa Rica is forecast to grow during the next few year due to “expanding vehicle fleet and upcoming government reforms to boost growth in construction and transportation sector”, according to the “Costa Rica Tyre Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020” report published by TechSci.

Bridgestone says its Lincolnshire retreading facility played “a huge role” in its latest fleet contract win. The Saroléa Manx 7 electric superbike has been homologated in the Isle of Man for public road use, fitted with Bridgestone Battlax RS 10 tyres. The company plans to develop and manufacture high performance street-legal electric motorcycles in limited editions on the Isle of Man. The Manx 7 itself is derived from the Saroléa SP7, which competed in the Isle of Man TT Zero races in 2014 and 2015. Racing on Bridgestone Battlax VO2 slicks, the Saroléa narrowly missed a podium finish this year after completing the 60km TT course at an average speed of more than 170km/h.
Pocket App, the UK’s largest independent app developer, has announced that a new vehicle tyre pressure monitoring system for smartphones is now available for download. The new app, which has been designed for Bridgestone Europe, captures pressure readings from Bridgestone’s TPMS sensors using a Bluetooth Transceiver.

The winners of the 2015 Tyre Industry Awards were announced during the 86th NTDA Annual Dinner on 1 October following the new one-day Tyre Industry Conference at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham. Attendance at the dinner set a new record, with 60 tables sold out. The speaker and presenter of the awards was former England Rugby Union international, amateur dancer and current television pundit, Austin Healey, who added some trademark irreverence to proceedings. Around three and a half years ago, Bridgestone Corporation announced plans to develop the guayule plant into a commercially viable alternative to traditional sources of natural rubber. The company produced its first guayule-sourced natural rubber samples a year ago, and today shares it has reached another milestone on the path to guayule commercialisation – Bridgestone says it has produced passenger car tyres whose natural rubber content is 100 per cent sourced from the desert shrub.
10 years after Bridgestone bought Bulldog, the retreading market is a different place. A decade ago passenger car retreading was still going on (albeit some way from its peak). Seventeen year-old Silje Otte has put her name on the motorsport map following her success in the Girls National competition at Maismore in Gloucestershire. In five races around the track, Silje won four races convincingly, one of which by nearly 30 seconds.

Bridgestone Europe has announced plans to hire multiple engineers in the coming months at its European Technical Centre (TCE) near Rome. This is part of an investment plan to expand Bridgestone’s business in Europe.
The company is targeting engineers with a range of different experience levels, from recent graduates to experienced individuals. Their role will involve designing and developing innovative products which will improve tyre performance on all types of road and in all types of climate.
