Bridgestone adds aircraft tire retreading warehouse
Bridgestone Aircraft Tire USA, which operates a 160,000-square-foot aircraft tyre retreading facility in Rockingham County, North Carolina, is expanding with a new warehouse in nearby Madison.
Based in Japan, Bridgestone Corporation is the world’s largest tyre and rubber company.

Bridgestone has secured the largest commercial fleet contract in its history, a $110m, five-year deal with transport operator FirstGroup. Bridgestone will supply tyres to more than 60,000 of FirstGroup’s buses and coaches in the USA, Canada and the UK.

According to Nikkier, Bridgestone said the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court in April reached a favourable ruling regarding a patent infringement lawsuit Bridgestone filed in October 2015. The suit alleged Wanli of manufacturing and selling tyres with tread patterns used in Bridgestone’s Dueler A/T Revo 2 tyres for sports utility vehicles.
Bridgestone showcased its range of premium services, including its new M-Series commercial tyre line-up, to representatives of “hundreds of businesses” at the CV Show 2017. It adds that it concluded “a prestigious fleet agreement” with dairy firm Arla during the event.
Bridgestone has extended its fleet supply agreement with Arla Foods, taking the relationship into a 10th consecutive year. In addition to its premium brand tyres, the manufacturer will also supply its tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) and Total Tyre Care support to the 13,500-strong dairy farmer cooperative until at least 2020. Arla said call-out times have been reduced by up to 30 per cent as a direct result of Bridgestone’s support, explaining the decision to renew its contract.
An official opening ceremony for Bridgestone’s new passenger car tyre factory in Russia will be held next Thursday, states the tyre maker. Although commercial production at the Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing C.I.S. LLC facility began last December, on 25 May more than 200 invited guests, including key Bridgestone partners, suppliers and representatives from local, regional, national and also Japanese government authorities, will attend a ceremony at the 81-hectare plant site in the Zavolzhye Industrial Zone, some 560 miles southeast of Moscow.
Bridgestone now operates a total of more than 900 First Stop, Speedy and Côté Route retail outlets in France now that the company’s acquisition of Group Ayme and its 104 points of sale has been completed. The deal was finalised yesterday, reports Bridgestone EMEA; the French competition authorities gave clearance and authorised the transaction without any restrictions.

General Motors has committed itself to sourcing original equipment tyres produced from sustainable natural rubber. The vehicle manufacturer views this step as an industry first and says its aim is to help “drive the industry toward net-zero deforestation and uphold human and labour rights.”

For the three months to 31 March 2017, Bridgestone Corporation reports net sales of 851.9 billion yen (£5.8 billion), 3.2 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2016. Operating income decreased 5.0 per cent year-on-year to 103.1 billion yen (£698.8 million) with an operating margin of 12.1 per cent, and ordinary income was down 6.4 per cent to 96.9 billion yen (£656.8 million), decreases Bridgestone says occurred in part due to increases in raw material costs. Profit attributable to owners of parent amounted to 59.2 billion yen (£401.2 million) during the first quarter of 2017, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 per cent.
Bridgestone is continuing its partnership with the all-electric Belgian motorcycle manufacturer Saroléa. For the fourth year in a row, the tyre maker will support Saroléa’s participation in the TT Zero races at the Isle of Man on 7 June. Bridgestone’s partnership with Saroléa dates back to 2014 and involves the provision of full technical support and tyre expertise for Saroléa’s track and road ambitions.
