General Motors recognized its most innovative partners at its 26th Supplier of the Year awards ceremony on 20 April in Orlando, Florida. Dunlop comments that the change of technical partner accompanies yesterday’s announcement of the next goal for Saroléa, which is to be recognised as a candidate for future Le Mans 24h and FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) competition and thus directly compete with the most powerful petrol-powered EWC machines. The switch, adds Dunlop, was a move Saroléa made “to help achieve this goal.”
The wholesale tyre distribution networks owned by Goodyear and Bridgestone in the USA are combining to form an operation the two protagonists claim will be “one of the largest tyre distribution joint ventures in the United States.” This 50-50 joint venture, announced yesterday, echoes the arrangement that Michelin and Sumitomo Corporation entered into at the start of the year.
The need to increase the volume of training in the tyre industry, helping both to achieve uniformly better standards of service and for businesses to work to retain staff through training and qualifications, has increased, Bridgestone commercial and marketing director John Folliss tells Tyres & Accessories. More reasons for enhancing training programmes include the changes in skill base brought about by both new technology and legislation.

Bridgestone’s new Battlax Adventure A41 will be fitted as original equipment on the iconic BMW R1200GS and BMW R1200GS Adventure motorcycles.
Beginning in 2019, Bridgestone will act as title sponsor for the Senior Players Championship, the annual golf championship for players aged 50 and over on the PGA Tour Champions. The agreement announced by PGA Tour yesterday covers a four-year period through 2022, and when players head out onto the Firestone Country Club’s South Course between 8-14 July, they will be competing in the ‘Bridgestone Senior Players Championship’.
On 3 April the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) said Thai tyre maker Deestone can retain its brand name despite opposition from Bridgestone, which owns both the Bridgestone and Firestone tyre brands.
Bridgestone has secured a three-year commercial partnership with vehicle rental company Collease. The deal will incorporate a large fleet of all types of Trailers and Motorised equipment. Collease’s customers include a number of prestigious blue chip companies.
Bridgestone has launched two new Battlax tyres respectively for the touring and adventure segments. The Adventure A41 is designed to provide improved wet grip and handling to help trail on-road bikers take on varied conditions. Meanwhile the manufacturer states that it has upgraded its motorcycle line-up with the launch of Battlax Sport Touring T31.
