Recently-recruited Bridgestone Midlands area sales manager, Darren Hill, recently won two new accounts to the company. Freelance Haulage, based in Boughton, Nottinghamshire – is a specialist haulage and transport company running 10 vehicles and 20 trailers- has changed to new Bridgestone product, via local Bridgestone Truckpoint dealer Tanvic Tyres. Chris Porter, Freelance’s managing director, gave the reason for the change as “the anticipated longevity of the Bridgestone product, coupled with excellent value for money.”

Alonso Top as Webber Crashes in Tough Korean Conditions

Fernando Alonso scored his fifth win of the season in Korea, overcoming difficult conditions on a new, already slippery surface. Alonso called conditions “the worst [he’d] ever driven in”, a sentiment his nearest rival Mark Webber must also have felt as he failed to find enough grip in time when exiting a corner, aquaplaning into a wall. Current champion Jenson Button will almost certainly relinquish his crown, failing to score a point down in twelfth, but McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton kept up his challenge on Alonso and Webber with a high-quality second place, splitting the Ferraris on the podium. Sebastian Vettel’s failure to finish compounded a miserable race for Red Bull after looking strongest in qualifying.

Bridgestone to Expand OTR, Steel Cord Output with £188 milion Investment

Bridgestone Corporation has announced plans to invest 24 billion yen (£188 million; 211.7 million euros, US$296 million) in expanding production capacity of its Kitakyushu Plant. According to the company, Bridgestone is making the move to address “the continuing increases in global demand for large and ultra-large off-the-road radial tyres used on construction and mining vehicles.” Bridgestone will also expand production of the steel cord used in large and ultra-large OTR tyres manufactured at its Saga Plant. Post expansion production is scheduled to begin from January 2013. Production capacity at the Kitakyushu Plant is scheduled to increase to 130 tons per day when the expansion is completed in the second half of 2013.

TIA will hold a forum “Making ‘Green’ Work For Tire Dealers” on Wednesday, 3 November from noon to 13:00 in Room S231 of the South Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Bridgestone Korea Hosts Hamilton as F1 Arrives in Country

Bridgestone Korea welcomed McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton to South Korea on Wednesday (20 October) at an autographing and talk show event held in the Seoul Arts Centre. The 2008 FIA Formula One World Champion signed replica Bridgestone podium caps for Bridgestone’s tyre dealers, customers and other invited VIPs. Against the backdrop of a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes show car, which is currently on display as part of the ‘Formula One: The Great Design Race’ exhibition held at the Seoul Arts Centre, Hamilton was also joined by managing director of Bridgestone Korea Tomoya Sano, and director of Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development, Hirohide Hamashima.

Webber on Top with Bridgestone’s Soft Tyre

Bridgestone’s soft tyre took Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber to the fastest time in practice for the first ever Korean Grand Prix. Webber set a 1:37:942 lap time midway through the afternoon practice session at the newly constructed Korean International Circuit in Yeongam, approximately 400km south of the South Korean capital of Seoul. There seem to be plenty of challenges for Bridgestone at the new circuit, with a dirty, slippy surface and three distinct sectors putting different pressures on the rubber. Webber's teammate Sebastian Vettel suffered a puncture, leaving him seventh fastest.

Pirelli F1 Tyres Have “Different Characteristics”: de la Rosa

Pirelli’s test-driver Pedro de la Rosa has told motorsport journalists that pleased with the development of the future tyre supplier’s current product following a two-day testing session at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. Former Sauber BMW driver de la Rosa told Autosport today: “These Pirelli tyres have their own quite different characteristics to the current supplier that the drivers will appreciate next year. I'm confident that they will form a very competitive package. Pirelli's arrival is great news for Formula One.”

Bridgestone Ends Dayton Truck Tyres

Tire Review reports that Bridgestone Americas' Dayton brand medium truck tyres are no more. The manufacturer announced yesterday that it would discontinue sales of Dayton brand medium truck radials as of 1 January, 2011. The tyre-maker said it anticipates it will burn off its remaining Dayton inventory by the end of this year, but did not say when it stopped production of the tyres. The move, Bridgestone Americas said, does not impact production and sales of its Dayton branded passenger and light truck/SUV lines.

NETA Supports Yorkshire Air Ambulance With Charity Efforts

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA), which provides a life saving emergency service to the five million people across the county, has today received a cheque at their base at Leeds Bradford Airport worth £1000 from Deborah Horton of North Eastern Tyre and Autocare (NETA). The cheque was handed over following a string of fundraising efforts undertaken by the vehicle care specialists.

Deborah Horton is area retail manager for NETA, which has seven retail centres, 15 HiQ Fast Fit centres operated under franchise, as well as five wholesale depots across the North East and Yorkshire. She explains why the charity is so close to NETA’s heart: “The YAA works across the entire region covering rural landscape, major cities as well as motorways and thanks to its rapid response to emergencies it is responsible for rescuing hundreds of lives, many of which are the result of road accidents.”

Stoner Claims Fourth Consecutive Australian GP

Producing a repeat performance of his spectacular pace in qualifying, Casey Stoner dominated the Australian Grand Prix to take his third victory of the season and his fourth consecutively at the Phillip Island circuit. From pole, the Australian never looked back as he romped to a convincing victory using Bridgestone’s softer option slicks front and rear. Every rider used Bridgestone’s softer option front and rear slicks in the cold conditions; the weekend was the first time Bridgestone’s softer option asymmetric rear slicks featured the new extra soft compound in the right shoulders for improved warm-up performance and grip in the cold.

PAI Partners Confirms it is considering £650 million Sale of Kwik-Fit

Talk of Kwik-Fit’s potential sale is nothing new – reports on tyrepress.com date speculation about another impending change of ownership since September 2008. However an unnamed source within the private equity house has reportedly told news organisations including the Financial Times and Reuters that PAI Partners, the French firm that currently owns the fast fit business, has appointed Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley to analyse the possible sale of the company. Unconfirmed speculation suggests the trigger for this move was the receipt of two bids. The Financial Times suggests Bridgestone and Michelin as two potential bidders; the former as a rival bidder to PAI in 2005, the latter as the owner of rival fast-fitter ATS Euromaster.

Bridgestone Prepares for First Korean F1

News

Rounding the final bend of its final season in the sport, Bridgestone is preparing for a new Formula One destination at Yeongam near the city of Mokpo for the first ever Korean Grand Prix on 22-24 October with its hard and soft compound Potenza tyres. The all-new Korean International Circuit has never previously held a motorsport event, meaning that the teams and Bridgestone will have to rely on simulation data before taking to the track for the first time on the Friday of the Grand Prix.

Bridgestone Europe’s group of 18 national sales companies has been accredited to the revised standard ISO 9001:2008 by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance. Announcing the accreditation, Bridgestone Europe’s senior vice president of Sales & Marketing, Takashi Tomioka, commented: “ISO 9001 is an important standard which we have held since 1992. Ensuring that our sales companies operate to these stringent requirements provides a systematic and visible way to lead and operate our sales organisations. This allows us to focus on meeting our customers’ expectations through consistent products and services”.

Bridgestone Launches Tyre Safety Website

The latest component of Bridgestone’s ongoing Tyre Safety campaign – a website designed to boost awareness of the importance of tyre safety – has been unveiled. Featuring UK motorsport expert and TV commentator, Tony Jardine, the site contains a series of short video clips demonstrating what Bridgestone calls the “three main pillars” of tyre safety: tyre pressure, tread depth and damage/irregular wear. MotoGP Prepares for Final Round in Australia

News

No sooner had the meeting in Malaysia finished than Bridgestone and MotoGP was preparing for the last in the series of three back-to-back weekends, and the last stage of the season in Australia at the Phillip Island circuit on 17 October. Phillip Island is the fastest circuit on the calendar with a record average speed set in qualifying in 2008 by pole-sitter and race-winner Casey Stoner of 180.598 km/h. The layout of the track is fast and flowing, with the Honda Hairpin representing the only real heavy braking point in the lap.
