Former Sibur-Russian Tyres CEO Vadim Gurinov has been appointed president of Russian engineering construction company Stroytransgaz, replacing Sergey Makarov following the latter’s resignation. Gurinov, who was elected to the post on 22 August, is a member of Stroytransgaz’s Board of Directors and continues to hold the post of chairman of tyre maker JSC Cordiant’s Board of Directors.
The Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa (REDISA) has appointed Continental SA sales director Eddie Jordaan and Alliance Tyre Africa managing director Piet Swart to key positions within the fledgling recycling scheme. Both men take up their posts with REDISA on 1 September.
Roderick A. Palmore, executive vice president, general counsel, chief compliance and risk management officer, and secretary for food multinational General Mills, Inc., has been elected to Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Board of Directors.
Continental has cut the ribbon on a new £8.5 million mixer at its Port Elizabeth tyre making plant in South Africa. Nikolai Setzer, member of Continental's Executive Board and head of the company’s global tyre business, was on hand to do the honours. Continental says the new mixer, which was imported from Germany, allows for superior temperature control during the mixing cycle, enabling a more accurate reproducibility of compounds and better dispersion of the fillers.
Pirelli & C. SpA has reported the resignation of Giovanni Perissinotto from the company’s Board of Directors. In making this announcement, Pirelli thanked Perissinotto, who had served on the board since May 2003, for his “valued contribution to the company.”
According to the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, or BKPM, Pirelli intends to invest US$126 million in a new tyre factory within the company. Reuters reports Chatib Basri, who was appointed chairman of the Board in June, as saying “we gave approval a few days ago for Pirelli to invest in Indonesia. They want to build a tyre factory."
US-based organisation the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) has awarded Bridgestone Americas’ director of environmental affairs, Tim Bent, its President’s Award. This is only the eighth time the award has been presented during the WHC’s 24-year history, and Bridgestone shares that it was given in honour of Bent’s “outstanding contribution to preserving and protecting the environment for future generations, while leading the commitment of Bridgestone Americas, Inc. and its employees worldwide on projects demonstrating contemporary approaches to environmental stewardship and conservation education at corporate sites worldwide.”
The Jakarta Globe reports that Multistrada Arah Sarana intends to diversify into industrial real estate. The tyre maker is believed to be making this move in response to alleged Indonesian government plans requiring all manufacturers to relocate to industrial estates before December 2012. Company president Pieter Tanuri said the new subsidiary will be called Kawasan Industri Multistrada and will build an industrial estate on 210 hectares of land near Jakarta. While Tanuri has not disclosed the level of investment Multistrada is making in the project, the company president said he expects construction to be complete by December 2014.
This month the Nizhnekamsk Truck Tire Factory (OOO NZGSH), which is part of OAO TATNEFT's petrochemical business, manufactured its 70 millionth tyre. Production at the Nizhnekamsk truck tyre factory began in April 1978, and the 70 millionth tyre was timed to coincide with Chemist's Day and the 80th birthday of Nikolay Alexandrovich Zelenov, the first director of the Nizhnekamsk tyre factory, and now adviser to the chairman of the company’s Board of Directors of OOO "Nizhnekamskshina". The milestone tyre was a Kamaz truck tyre.
Pirelli & C. SpA has reported the resignation of Giuseppe Vita from its Board of Directors following his assumption of the role of chairman at UniCredit. The UniCredit bank confirmed Vita’s appointment on 11 May. Upon sharing news of Vita’s resignation, Pirelli thanked him for his contribution to the Group.
Treasury & Risk magazine's 2012 list of "30 Outstanding Women in Finance" includes Laura K. Thompson, vice president, finance for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's North American Tire business. Thompson directs finance for the company's largest business unit, with annual sales of nearly $10 billion. She previously served as vice president of business development, is also the executive in charge of developing Goodyear's new headquarters in Akron, Ohio.
On 25 April, Hankook Tire Co., Ltd. reported to the Korea Stock Exchange that its Board of Directors has approved the divestment of its tyre business, effective 1 September 2012. This measure is being taken to improve shareholders' and corporation value. The company will remain listed and the division being divested, Hankook Tire Worldwide Co., Ltd., will form a public company.
Following half a century with Bosch, in which he held a number of important positions in the company, chairman of the company’s supervisory council, Professor Dr. Hermann Scholl is to resign from office, effective 30 June 2012. At the same time, he will retire from Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG, where he has been managing partner since 1995.
The Titan International Board of Directors has approved a quarterly cash dividend of US$.005 per common share for the first quarter of 2012. The cash dividend is payable 16 April 2012, to stockholders of record on 30 March, 2012.
In addition to the sponsorship of three Major League Baseball sponsorships, Maxxis announced that it will be an official partner of the New York Knicks basketball team for the season’s remaining games. During home games, Maxxis’ signage will appear courtside for 30 seconds of TV coverage on an LED board at Madison Square Garden. The Taiwanese manufacturer revealed that the form of Jeremy Lin had encouraged its decision to buy sponsorship of the New York team.
