“Smart Tyre System”: TRW Joins Michelin

Michelin and TRW Automotive Electronics have agreed to develop advanced tyre pressure monitoring technology, hand in hand with Michelin’s PA System Technology. The companies displayed their linked technology . The technology is being displayed at the Convergence 2000 International Congress on Transportation Electronics, being held in Detroit. The TRW system will give drivers advance knowledge of underinflation and allow them to remedy the fault before pressure falls to a dangerous level. In the event of a fast puncture the PAX system ensures the tyre stays on the wheel. The TRW system uses a sensor mounted in a high tec valve that sends details by radio signal to the on board control unit. The agreement will see both companies working towards the most effective method of alerting the driver to possible problems.

Changes at ContiTech

The new Managing Director of ContiTech Vibration Control is Heinz-Gerhard Wente (49). Wente succeeds Dr. Volker Härtel, who has assumed new functions in Strategic Technology within the Continental group. The new Managing Director of ContiTech Power Transmission Systems is Konrad Müller (48). Also a member of the board of this division is Hans-Jürgen Duensing, formerly of ContiTech Conveyor Belt Systems.

Dr. von Grünberg To Become Member Of Telekom Supervisory Board

Dr. Hubertus von Grünberg will be elected as a member of the German Telekom Supervisory Board on 25 May. the former CEO and Chairman of Continental is already Chairman of Continental Supervisory Board and member of the Board at Allianz, MAN and holds similar positions at BHF-Bank, Dresdner Bank and Schindler Holding (Suisse).

Continental Wants To Buy Back Shares

The German newspaper Handelsblatt says in today’s issue that Continental is planning to buy back its own shares. This will be confirmed at the general meeting taking place on May 19th. The Supervisory Board proposes the usual limit of 10 p.c. of the original capital and a time limit up until the end of October 2001. With this move Continental wants to keep the option open to make acquisitions by exchanging shares.

Edward T. Fogarty (62), former Chairman, President and CEO of Tambrands, Inc., has been elected to the twelve-strong board of Directors of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Comp. After 37 years of service James Boyaziz (63) will retire on July 31, his responsibilities as Corporate Secretary will be assumed by C. Thomas Harvie (57), who is currently Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

Successful Dunlop Cloverleaf Comes To An End

Dr. Volker Wingefeld (49), Finance Director of Dunlop GmbH, is leaving the company within the next few weeks to join the board of Buderus AG, responsible for finance. Dr. Manfred Gerresheim (61), board member responsible for technical development and Robert Schäfer (61), chief executive of Dunlop, are considering leaving at the end of this year. The Dunlop management team is completed by its fourth member, Hans-Jürgen Wagner and, during the 90s, was very successful, turning in several record profits in a row.

Top-Executive Succession At Continental AG

Dr. Wolfgang Ziebarth (50), former member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, will be appointed to the company’s Executive Board with effect from October 1st, 2000. In December, Dr. Ziebarth is to assume responsibility for the Continental Automotive Systems Group, thus succeeding Hans Albert Beller (62) who is to begin his planned retirement after building up the unit for the past seven years.

Top Management Change At Fulda

55-year old John P. Jentgen is moving on from the board of directors at Gummiwerk Fulda – effective 1st November 2000. As Director Manufacturing at the Luxembourg Complex he will be responsible for the four production plants manufacturing tyres, wires, cords and moulds. Mr. Jengten’s successor as Production Director is Robert Schmit.
