Monster Jam is on its way to Europe, but stay calm – we’re not dealing with terrifying fruit preserves here. The US-bred extreme truck event, sponsored by off-road tyre manufacturer BKT, arrives in our region this month for shows in the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden.
In the first quarter of its 2014-15 financial year, the three-month period to 30 June 2014, net sales at Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT) rose 17.6 per cent year-on-year to Rs 9.49 billion (£92.4 million). The company’s net profit grew 12.7 per cent to Rs 1.15 billion (£11.2 million) during the three-month period, yet despite this the company’s share price dropped more than five per cent to a day’s low of Rs 715 after the quarter results were announced. Analysts had expected profits of around Rs 1.32 billion for the quarter.
BKT Tires shares that Shawn Rasey joined the company on 1 July as president of the BKT Americas OTR division. The company says the move is “another step in our commitment to build a world class mining and construction OTR tyre business.”
During Reifen 2014 a BKT (Balkrishna Industries) representative commented that the Indian off-road tyre specialist’s turnover has increased by an average of 30 per cent a year over the last five years. A look at the company’s results for the 2013-14 financial year shows this is indeed the case; for the 12 months to 31 March 2014 the company achieved net sales of Rs 35,770 million (£360.4 million). This is a long way from the Rs 12,572 billion earned in 2008-09. EBITDA was Rs 8,940 million (£90.1 million) for the 2013-14 period, a year-on-year increase of 34.5 per cent, while the EBITDA margin rose from 20.8 per cent to 25.0 per cent. Net profit for the year amounted to Rs 4,883 million (£49.2 million), with an earnings per share of Rs 50.53.
Kirkby Tyres has announced the availability of a number of new agricultural tyre sizes. Indian manufacturer BKT is supplying eight new fitments of tractor and trailer tyres to the Liverpool based wholesaler, while Kirkby UK exclusive brand Alliance has three new sizes of its 320 Value Plus tyre for small trailers, balers and agricultural tillage implements.
Prior to its presence at Reifen 2014, BKT will partner with Italian market distributor Industrial Gomme at Samoter 2014, the triennial international exhibition for earthmoving and construction vehicles that this year takes place in Verona from 8 to 11 May. At their joint stand, the two companies will showcase products from the BKT industrial range, including the Loader Special (L5) and Earthmax SR 30 and SR 45 and AS.
Balkrishna Industries, or BKT, has selected US marketing and communication company Red Moon Marketing as its official experiential agency of record. In this role, Red Moon Marketing will manage and coordinate all promotional activities related to BKT’s function as Monster Jam tyre manufacturer and supplier.
The sponsorship agreement between BKT and Feld Motor Sports was officialised at the Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas late last month, the tyre maker reports. The deal, which sees BKT supplying the Monster Jam vehicles through to 2018, was confirmed by BKT executive director Rajiv Poddar and Feld Entertainment CEO Kenneth Feld.
Monster Jam, the US-based Monster Truck event tour, has signed BKT Tires on as its official and exclusive tyre sponsor. Through to 2018, BKT will have an on-site presence at Monster Jam events held in over 100 cities in North America, and will also go international with Monster Jam in the near future. As part of the deal, the off-road tyre specialist has designed and developed a purpose-made tyre, the BKT Monster Jam Tire, for fitment on the Monster Jam truck fleet.

In addition to appearances from football freestylers Christopher Noel and Colin Nell and giving away more than 16,000 free footballs, during last month’s Agritechnica show off-road tyre specialist BKT presented two new ranges – the Constar and Star Trac. Both products are scheduled for market release before the end of 2013.
The organisers of last week’s Tyrexpo India 2013 exhibition (9-11 July) have confirmed their plans to return to Chennai in July 2015. ECI International managing director Paul Farrant, says: “This was our second exhibition in India and we were greatly encouraged by the reaction received from both exhibitors and visitors. There is enormous potential in the tyre sector and we are very confident that the show will continue to grow and develop into a significant event for the tyre and equipment aftermarket.”
Visitors to Bauma 2013 may be mistaken for thinking ‘WOW’ stands for WithOut Walking – as BKT, who recently adopted the three-letter word as its new advertising slogan, is sponsoring the show’s entire fleet of rickshaws. Weary-footed visitors will be ferried from one end of the Munich Trade Fair Centre to the other courtesy of the tyre maker, and each rickshaw will simultaneously serve as a mobile billboard.
The month of March saw BKT roll out a new communication campaign for its agricultural, industrial and OTR tyres. The Indian tyre maker says the new campaign – which is calls ‘WOW’ – represents the company’s corporate image for the near future.
During the SIMA show, Indian tyre maker BKT gave an update of the company’s recent performance. Highlights covered including the firm’s average annual growth rate – this remains at approximately 30 per cent. BKT also claims to currently hold five per cent of the global market share in the off-highway tyre sector in speciality segments such as agricultural machines and equipment, earthmovers, industrial vehicles, ATV and lawn & garden applications. The company says it aims to double this market share by the end of 2014; at this time it plans to achieve a turnover of US$1.36 million, and a turnover of $2 billion by 2020.
