Goodyear’s HiQ fast fit network has launched its HiQ2U mobile tyre fitting service across the Midlands. This service is now available across the Midlands from Coventry to Birmingham and includes the surrounding areas. Motorists can receive tyres and tyre fitting services at their doorstep between 7:00am and 7:00pm Monday to Friday and between 8:30am and 12:30pm on Saturdays.
The 2021 Tyre Industry Awards finalist shortlist has been published by the NTDA. The awards are due to be presented at a ceremony sponsored for the seventh consecutive year by Sailun Tyres, during the association’s 92nd Annual Dinner on Thursday 7 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham. The dinner is sponsored by long-standing NTDA supplier member, and Tyre Industry Awards supporter, Maritime Cargo Services, while the awards will be hosted, once again, by popular TV personality and Rugby Union pundit Mark Durden-Smith. The 2021 finalists include many former award winners, finalists, and some new nominees.
After hiatus last year, the NTDA’s Tyre Industry Awards will be back in 2021, according to the association’s chief executive Stefan Hay.
The Awards are scheduled to be presented to the winners at a ceremony sponsored by Sailun at the NTDA Annual Dinner, which is due to take place on the evening of Thursday 7 October 2021 at the ICC Birmingham, following the daytime Tyre Industry Conference sponsored by GB Tyres Ltd in association with Linglong Tire.
Twenty Wrightbus hydrogen double-decker buses have been ordered by Birmingham City Council as part of its Clean Air Hydrogen Bus Pilot. The buses will be added to the National Express West Midlands fleet and will operate from April 2021. The NTDA has cancelled the 2020 Tyre Industry Conference, Annual Dinner and Tyre Industry Awards. The event was scheduled for Thursday 5 November at the VOX Conference Centre Birmingham. It is the first time the annual dinner has been cancelled since its first edition in 1930. NTDA chief executive Stefan Hay said that the decision had not been taken lightly. It was initially hoped that the event would go ahead as per the government’s scheduled restart date for business events of 1 October, and is a reminder that the Covid-19 situation continues to overshadow UK business planning. The 2021 Tyre Industry Conference and Annual Dinner and Awards is scheduled to take place on 7 October in Birmingham.
The NTDA has welcomed the news that business events and conferences will be permitted to resume from 1 October 2020. A tyre fire in the early hours of 28 February has “totally destroyed” Tornado Tyres’ centre on Wharfdale Road in the Tyseley area of Birmingham. More than 100 firefighters attended the fire, as residents in the local area were told to keep all windows and doors closed. Wharfdale Road and Redfern Road were subject to closures as fire crews gained control over the blaze.
