QuickSilver Exhaust for Bentley Continental GT

Most people would agree that the sound is an important part of driving a ‘Sports’ car. However, when it comes to the Bentley Continental GT, the original factory silencers are cleverly designed but too quiet for many drivers’ tastes, says exhaust specialist QuickSilver.

QuickSilver’s design team has developed a ‘Sports’ system with internals created to allow the volume and flow to increase in proportion with rpm. This provides a unique, higher pitched and crisper exhaust note, while a much more efficient exhaust gas flow means a real improvement in turbo response and acceleration.

Varta Introduces Aftermarket AGM Batteries

Varta is to introduce AGM technology to the aftermarket, with its premium range of Ultra Dynamic batteries. Varta is the European market leader in OE Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery technology, claiming a share in this sector of over 90 per cent.

AGM uses special micro-glass fibres in between the battery plates to fix the electrolyte. This increases the bonding of the active plate material between the plates and the electrolyte, which increases both the life span and the electrical performance of the battery, as well as making it spill proof.

Hayes Lemmerz Appoints VP Steel Wheel Operations

Hayes Lemmerz International has appointed John Stephenson as vice president of the Steel Wheel Operations for the company’s International Wheel Group, effective immediately. Mr. Stephenson will report directly to International Wheel Group President Fred Bentley. Mr Stephenson will have responsibility for the company’s International Steel Wheel businesses with operations in Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, and India.

Advan Sport Approved for Porche 911 Carrera

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has announced that its Advan Sport (V103S) tyre has been approved as original equipment tyres for the new 911 Carrera 4 by Porsche AG. The V103s is the latest addition to Yokohama’s ADVAN Sport flagship series. Yokohama will supply the tyres in 235/40ZR18 (91Y) for the front and 295/35ZR18 (99Y) for the rear. The new 911 Carrera 4 will be the eighth Porsche model since 1989 to run with factory-fitted Yokohama high-performance tyres.

Pirelli Supplies Fastest Cars in Frankfurt

Pirelli has supplied tyres for the Brabus E V12 Biturbo, a world speed record-holding tuned Mercedes on show at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, along with the main new models from Bentley, Cadillac, Lamborghini, Maserati, Peugeot, Audi, Volvo, Alfa Romeo and AMG. The Milan-based firm is also equipping the most sophisticated tuned versions of models from Ferrari, Mercedes, Range Rover and Jaguar prepared by the German specialists Novitec, Brabus and Arden.

Hayes Lemmerz Receives Hyundai Best Supplier Award

Hayes Lemmerz Inci, Hayes Lemmerz International’s Manisa, Turkey operation, has received the 2004 Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Best Supplier Award. The award recognizes Hayes Lemmerz Inci for its quality, delivery, cost and customer service. At a special ceremony held recently in Izmit, Turkey, Hyundai Assan presented a total of three awards. BEN Team Raises Marathon Money

On Sunday 17th April thousands of people took to the streets of London to run the 25th Flora London Marathon. BEN, the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund, had a team of nine industry members running to raise money for the charity. This is the largest team BEN has ever entered into the gruelling 26.2 mile race and the Fund hopes to raise around £10,000 in sponsorship thanks to the participation and hard work of the runners.

New York Auto Show Just Another Example of Pirelli’s Growth

At the beginning of the year, Guy Mannino, President and CEO of Pirelli Tire North America, announced 2005 as “The Year of OE at Pirelli.” With the New York International Auto Show just completed at the Javits Center in New York City and with major auto shows in Anaheim, Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago having run their course, it’s instructive to review the significant OE in-roads Pirelli has made in this it’s fourth year of aggressive expansion in North America.

Hayes Lemmerz Appoints VP of Sales for International Wheel Group

Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. has appointed Pieter Klinkers to the position of vice president of sales and marketing for the company’s International Wheel Group. Mr Klinkers replaces Marc Hendrickx who was recently appointed as vice president of the International Wheel Group’s Aluminum Operations. Mr Klinkers will report directly to president Fred Bentley. The appointment became effective on 1 March, 2005.

Pieter Klinkers joins Hayes Lemmerz from Michelin’s Wheel Group where he has worked since 1997. Mr Klinkers has served in a series of senior level marketing and sales positions with Michelin, most recently as director of sales and marketing, based in Paris, France. Fluent in Dutch, English, German and French, Mr Klinkers holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Hayes Lemmerz Brazil Receives Supplier Award from Agrale

Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. announced that its steel wheel manufacturing operation in Guarulhos, Brazil has received the 2003/2004 supplier award from Agrale, the Brazil-based truck, chassis, tractor, motorcycle and engine manufacturer. The award recognized Hayes Lemmerz as “The Best Supplier” of its commercial truck steel wheels. The recent quality awards received by this plant demonstrate that investment in upgrading the capabilities of the plant are paying off. “I am honored that Agrale has recognized our efforts to be an industry leader,” said Fred Bentley, President of the Company’s International Wheel Group. “The key to successful implementation of quality is having a team that truly practices Operational Excellence. Yokohama Exhibits ADVAN in Las Vegas

Continuing in the pattern of recent international automotive shows, Yokohama is exhibiting its ADVAN range in Las Vegas. Yokohama sees the ADVAN brand as symbolic of the company’s “global concept.” At the SEMA Show, Yokohama will exhibit ADVAN Sport, the company’s new sport tyre, ADVAN ST, its new flagship tyre for the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), and ADVAN Neova, which the company describes as a “maximum performance radial.”

ADVAN sport has recently been selected by Bentley as standard equipment for its Continental GT, the world’s fastest four-seats coupe. According to the company, Yokohama Rubber plans to begin marketing ADVAN brand tyres in 2005. In addition, Yokohama will also introduce the Parada brand and the AVID TRZ, premium all season touring tyre at the show.

Beru Increases Revenues by 23%

Beru Aktiengesellschaft (Ludwigsburg, Germany) increased its total revenues in the first quarter of the 2004/05 financial year (1 April – 30 June, 2004) by 23.2% to €85.5 million (1 April – 30 June, 2003: €69.4 million). A high level of growth in the company’s youngest division, Electronics and Sensor Technology, made a decisive contribution (12.5% organic growth) to earnings achieved by the group, but not the tyre pressure monitoring system. Net income rose by 20.3% to €7.7 million after €6.4 million in the same period of last year. As a result, earnings per share reached €0.77 after €0.64 in the prior-year quarter.

Hayes Lemmerz Ventures to Turkey

Hayes Lemmerz International has formed an aluminum wheel joint venture in Manisa, Turkey. The new company, Jantas Aliminyum Jant Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (Jantas Aluminum Wheels), will predominantly serve the Turkish market, but will also deal with other European markets. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2005 and it is estimated that it will produce up to 1.5 million wheels annually.

Three companies are involved in the business venture; 40 per cent will be owned by Hayes Lemmerz, 35 per cent by Cromodora Wheels and 25 per cent by Inci Holding A.S. Financial. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
