BEN Scotland Ball ‘a great success’
Automotive industry charity BEN is celebrating the success of its 16th BEN Scotland Ball, held at the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow, which raised a total of £8,900 on the night.

The Trust My Garage Charity Challenge teams, the Northern Numpties and the Southern Softies have raised the impressive sum of £8,500 for the automotive charity BEN.
The challenge, which was to visit the most TMG members using a route planned by using only the TMG website, was won by the Southern Softies who visited 85 garages during the four day event.
With less than three weeks to go, the 2014 CV Show and Workshop is sold out. Show organisers report that every available portion of Show space has been sold and the books are now closed. The 2014 Show exhibit space will measure just over 31,400m2 – an increase of almost 8 per cent over last year.
The annual Sunday Times workplace survey has once again placed BEN, the automotive industry charity, in the Top 100 Best not-for-profit organisations to work for and awarded the charity with a coveted star rating.
Last year’s BEN Ball more than lived up to its billing as ‘the night of the year’ for the automotive industry. It will live long in the memory of all guests and is already attracting interest and enquiries for this year. BEN has decided to reward this interest with the offer of an early bird booking discount. Therefore every booking made before the end of March will qualify for a full 10 per cent reduction on all prices.

As the devastation caused as a result of the extraordinary series of weather storms in the UK continues, BEN said it recognises the likelihood that members of the automotive community are extremely likely to be amongst those being challenged by the experience.
The Hankook Masters Programme was launched in the UK at the end of 2012 and enjoys ongoing growth. To facilitate the scheme’s continued expansion, Hankook Tyre UK has appointed Nick Maltby its franchise development manager. Maltby brings over 30 years of tyre trade experience, gained through senior positions at large independent retailers, into his new role. He joins existing franchise manager Ben Francis in the development of the Hankook Masters Programme.
Kumho Tyres Australia has renewed its support for the Australian Rally Championship. The company has been involved with the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship for the past four seasons and has now committed to being official tyre supplier up until at least 2016.
BEN, the automotive industry charity has announced that David Prescott, MBE, FCIS, former Deputy Chief Executive, and long standing supporter, has died following a short battle with cancer. In an illustrious career that spanned more than 50 years (36 of which were served with BEN), David dedicated himself to improving the lives of others and his loss will leave a huge void for those who came to know this truly remarkable man.
Following BEN’s recent announcement of its plans to create a new residential and retirement ‘village’, the charity was honoured by a visit from His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent GCVO who laid the foundation stone of the state-of-the-art care centre currently under construction on the site of Lynwood, BEN’s long-standing centre in Sunninghill, Berkshire.
Pirelli has crowned British Rally Championship 2 winner Daniel McKenna its UK Star Driver honour ahead of five other finalists. During the two-day shootout at the Sweet Lamb motorsport complex in Wales, McKenna impressed a panel of five judges the most, winning a full, seven-round British Rally Championship campaign courtesy of the series’ tyre supplier. McKenna, from County Monaghan, will compete in a Citroen DS3 R3 supplied by DGM Motorsport.

Liverpool’s Kirkby Tyres continues to promote Double Coin truck and bus radial tyres, having been sole UK and Ireland importer for more than 20 years. This year the wholesaler made the Chinese manufactured brand the focal point of its presence at the Birmingham NEC’s Commercial Vehicles Show, and Kirkby is convinced that it was “an overwhelming success” for Double Coin.
This year’s GEA gold day was staged at Whittlebury Park near Silverstone and with 18 teams was one of the best supported in recent years. According to the Garage Equipment Association, the event was all about raising cash for the motor trade charity BEN and this year’s profits were £2,927, which all goes to the charity.
Pirelli’s SC1 Diablo Superbike tyre showed impressive durability at Cadwell Park over the weekend, as Josh Brookes set the fastest race lap of the weekend on the penultimate lap of the second race in a time of 1:27.422 with the track temperature nearing 40 degrees. Meanwhile Alex Lowes took a brace of victories in front of his home crowd to take Brookes’ second place in the Championship behind Shane Byrne.
