Is there a long-term future for indirect TPMS?

Ask a leading tyre pressure monitoring system manufacturer what the future is for indirect TPMS and they will probably say there isn’t one. Tyres & Accessories asked this precise question of one of the biggest manufacturers in the business recently and the response was swift and somewhat in line with expectations. Of course direct TMPS makers have economic reasons not to like the solution offered by the competition, but is there more to it than that? Banner: Correct battery choice ‘vital’

Sell premium quality batteries, they Cost less than a tank of fuel. That’s the view put forward by Banner, the battery maker, which suggests it is prudent to supply and fit the best battery you can: “Budget batteries are fine for older cars without any electrical consumers but there are less of those on the roads today.”

Ecopia carries Nissan Leaf on record journey

Bridgestone has expressed pride in the contribution its Ecopia tyres made towards the completion of a 12,500 kilometre journey made by three all-electric Nissan Leaf cars within a 42 day period. This feat, the tyre maker comments, is thought to be the longest journey achieved by these electric vehicles in such a short period of time.

Conti, SK Innovations battery JV a ‘strong team’ for future mobility

Yesterday, Korean firm SK Innovation and Germany’s Continental signed an agreement to create a jointly managed company. SK Innovation and Conti will respectively hold 51 per cent and 49 per cent shareholdings in this joint venture, which is being set up with the goal of mutually developing, producing and globally marketing lithium-ion battery systems for cars. This agreement comes half a year after the two companies signed a letter of intent.

Network welcomes HiQueen’s jubilee safety message

A woman wearing a brightly coloured outfit that may or may not be “Her Majesty the Queen” has issued motorists with a Bank Holiday safety message on a recent visit to HiQ Tamworth. With the jubilee weekend celebrations coming this weekend, “Elizabeth” visited HiQ – minus Philip and her corgis – to urge drivers to get free safety checks ahead of their Bank Holiday journeys. Johnson Controls releases new Varta replacement battery

Johnson Controls has released a new battery aimed at the replacement market and particularly at Japanese and Korean compact cars. The Blue Dynamic has been developed specifically with models such as the Honda Jazz and Hyundai Atos in mind, according to the company. More than 20% (250,000 cars) of those model types across the EU are registered in the UK.

Snap-on launches CTEU 7850 cordless impact wrench

Practical Performance Car recommends Varta

The January 2012 issue of Practical Performance Car magazine ranks Varta in first place in the publication’s car battery product test. The company’s Silver Dynamic product topped the test and the Blue Dynamic battery was “recommended” in joint second place. This follows the “Best Buy” Award from Car Mechanics magazine in 2011 for the Silver Dynamic battery.
