Court ruling bans Bob Jane from using own name

Decades ago, the advertisement that Bob Jane’s company ran on Australian television claimed ‘not even the tyres can believe the low prices’; now Judge Besanko can’t believe them, either. In the Federal Court of Australia this week he found that the companies Jane established after leaving Bob Jane Corporation have “engaged in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or likely to mislead or deceive,” and infringe on Bob Jane Corporation’s trademark rights. To remedy this, Besanko ruled that Bob Jane may no longer use his own name to sell tyres or related products and services.

Autoparts UK launches new exclusive brand of batteries

Autoparts UK, one of the fastest growing motor factors, has launched an exclusive brand of batteries into the UK automotive aftermarket and signalled the introduction of more new brands in the future.

The Goliath brand of batteries joins Padtech brake pads, Disctech brake discs and Ultratec oils in being exclusively available from Autoparts, which has recently been subject to a massive rebranding exercise and the amalgamation of Apanels, a leading supplier of crash repair, body shop dry goods and key mechanical products.

Manbat pleased with exhibition triple-header

Battery supplier Manbat has supported three consecutive events in Telford, Birmingham and Paris. “Despite the complication of the timing of the events, two of which ran simultaneously, I’m delighted to say that all three exhibitions were a great success,” said marketing manager Myles Pemberton.

Amateur repair jobs costing UK motorists – Halfords

A Halfords survey has suggested that amateur repair or maintenance jobs often have costly consequences. Motorists and householders pay out an estimated £300m a year in order to correct mistakes made by family and friends trying to perform small tasks on cars, with one in six people left regretting accepting help. Maintenance blunders include elementary mistakes involving car batteries, and more serious errors such as using the wrong oil. Almost half (45 per cent) of those who subsequently had to employ an expert were left with a bill of over £100.

Branding expert a football sponsorship sceptic

Edward Freedman, the football branding guru who headed up merchandising at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur FC in the late 1980s and 1990s, has questioned the effectiveness of sponsorship from companies such as tyre manufacturers.

New Zeetex website

The Zeetex tyre brand launched a new website on Thursday 12 September 2013. According to the company, the site has been “aesthetically upgraded, is user friendly and boasts of enhanced functionality and dynamic tools”. The goal appears to have been to create a “visually appealing, polished and professional website – which also offers region-specific capabilities.”

Prepare for winter with Unipart Group's TTC

Winter is a dangerous time to be on the roads even for the most experienced of drivers. However, TTC, the truck and trailer component distribution arm of the Unipart Group, says it has the essential winter products and tips to help you stay safe. The company advises that, before you drive, you should ensure that you have the essential winter products in case you get caught in the snow. Some of the products that TTC offer include: high visibility jackets, rock salt, and traditional brown rock salt for winter de-icing, heavy duty snow shovels – both small and large, salt bins in 110ltr and 130ltr sizes and snow chains.

AA trials universal spare wheel too

The AA reports that it is the latest motoring organisation to be trialling the use of a 'universal spare wheel'. At the same time the company revealed data relating to spare tyre usage. A survey of 22,827 AA members revealed that close to a fifth (17 per cent) of members do not have a spare wheel in their car. The innovative wheel fits the majority of modern cars with a five-stud wheel. The 17” alloy uses a system of special adaptors of ten different sizes to find the best fit.

How green are electric vehicles?

Buying an electric car may seem to be the green option when the energy label states Zero CO2 emissions. But that's not the whole story when you factor in the electricity required to charge the batteries, and associated CO2 emissions created in electricity generation; the green benefits then become less clear.

Battery manufacturers collaborating on electromobility solutions

Germany’s Robert Bosch GmbH and Japanese firms GS Yuasa International Ltd and Mitsubishi Corporation have agreed to work together on the next generation of high-performance lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are fundamental for future forms of mobility, including plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles. The companies’ stated aim is to use advanced cell management and progress in electrochemistry and materials to significantly increase energy content. This will reduce weight and space requirements, and increase the range of electric vehicles.

Battery association names new president

The Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers (EUROBAT) has elected Johann-Friedrich Dempwolff, general manager and vice-president of Industry and Governmental Relations for Johnson Controls Power Solutions EMEA, as its new president. The appointment took place last week during EUROBAT meetings in Italy. Dempwolff will serve as president for two years.
