Fire at Bandvulc, but business continues

Bandvulc Tyres suffered a serious fire on Friday 5 August, but the company reports that business is able to continue. According to a statement released by the company, the fire broke out just outside one of its tyre production areas, which spread into the building through the roof. However “damage to production machinery and stock was thankfully a lot less than had been expected,” Bandvulc representatives explained. BBC news reported that more than 40 firefighters spent the night tackling the fire, but no-one was injured.

Clarke’s Transport Chooses Bandvulc for Fleet Fitment

Privately owned multi-service transport organisation Clarke’s Transport has selected the Bandvulc range of tyres as policy fitment for its fleet operation. The arrangement sees the Clarke’s fleet using AC Tyres based in Oldham to manage and provide fleet support to its Northern based vehicles. AC Tyres is a certified member of Bandvulc Tyre Contracts’ Service Provider Recognition Scheme and a key partner for Bandvulc.

NFT Tyre Agreement Awarded to Tyre Maintenance

NFT, a leading provider of time critical logistics solutions for the food sector, has changed its tyre management solution to Tyre Maintenance Ltd, a part of the Bandvulc Group. The change sees NFT adopt a policy fitment of Bandvulc tyres and retains the majority of service operators as previously.

For NFT, David Seaton, Fleet Engineer commented: “Tyre Maintenance and Bandvulc have indirect links with NFT currently in servicing many of the same fleet customers as we do. It made sense both operationally and economically to utilise this synergy and to bring operations within the same group of companies.”

Bandvulc Chosen for Bale Fleet

Devon-based hazardous liquid waste management specialist the Bale Group has selected Bandvulc’s product range for its tyre policy. On the basis of in-house drive and trailer axle position trials carried out by Bale, the company chose the Bandvulc produce as the most cost effective option for its operation; Bandvulc’s BD08 drive axle and B2K trailer tyres have been selected as the preferred policy fitment, supported by Continental HSR2 tyres on all steer and lift axles.

Bandvulc: Fulda Sales Beat Predictions by 25%

Bandvulc reports that its Fulda-brand commercial vehicle tyre sales “have exceeded all planned targets.” Sales for the year ending July 2010 were up 25 per cent on predicted forecasts and this reportedly shows that “the market can develop new brands if sold in a proactive, methodical way, rather than purely price driven,” according to the company.

Activity is said to have been high in all tyres sizes with the largest increase in demand seen in the heavy 385/65 R22.5 and the 295/80 R22.5 sectors. “The Fulda range has been well received by Bandvulc’s independent dealers as well as the national chains and we expect to maintain current levels as well as planning for growth of up to 25,000 units in 2011/12,” company representatives told Tyres & Accessories.

Bandvulc Employee Best in the UK for Second Year

A Bandvulc employee has gained the highest “City & Guilds Part 1 Retread Process Workshop Practice” mark in UK, the second year in a row that a Bandvulc entrant has laid claim to this award. Every year a number of the company’s employees embark on the City & Guilds course where they have a 12 section syllabus to complete via in-house tuition and no small measure of homework. The course runs from September to April each year and covers all aspects of tyre retreading.

Off-Road Range Gives Bandvulc a BIG Push

Two years after the company launched its flagship range of off-road orientated retreads, Devon-based Bandvulc is highlighting the recent rapid growth of its range of “BIG” tyres in a bid replicate the success of its larger than life products.

According to the company, Bandvulc’s BIG range is manufactured in all of the key sizes for this specialist market. The range features extra deep tread, sidewall protection and a compound especially suited to reduce penetrations and punctures. All this, say company representatives, combines to provide a robust, long lasting product in what is normally a high usage environment. The result? Despite difficult recessionary times, sales of the BIG range continued to expand in 2009 achieving an increase of over 50 per cent.

Bridgestone Named Tructyre Supplier of the Year

Tructyre Fleet Management Ltd has named Bridgestone UK as ‘Supplier of the Year 2009’. The award was presented to Paul Emery, trade sales manager of the Southern Region by Glenn Sherwood, managing director of Tructyre Fleet Management Ltd.

Each year Tructyre Fleet Management carries out quarterly supplier analysis where measures are made against; quality of products, service delivery, competitiveness, sales support and back up, distribution and accuracy of administration. Bridgestone is said to have met all of the above criteria consistently throughout 2009.

Bandvulc Making Debut Appearance at Tip-Ex Show

Bandvulc says that plans are well underway for its first participation in the Tip-ex Show, to be held in Harrogate between May 27 and 29. As the only UK exhibition dedicated to the tipping industry, it is seen by the retreader as an ideal opportunity to feature its well-established BIG range alongside the company’s newest tyre – the BDY3.

Bandvulc Restructures Telesales Dept

According to Kevin McPherson, tyre contracts manager at Bandvulc Tyres, “it is easy to forget that in our business it is the point of sale conversations with dealers and suppliers, which if developed, can lead to extra sales.” Bearing this focus in mind and in order to provide a better level of customer service, Bandvulc Tyres recently made changes to the structure of its Telephone Sales department.

Bandvulc Reports 50% Increase in BIG Tyre Sales

Bandvulc has reported that its BIG range (retreaded tyres for quarry and heavy application) expanded sharply in 2009, despite difficult recessionary times. According to Bandvulc, the company saw sales in this market increase by over 50 per cent. Bandvulc representatives commented that this because “customers are still looking for value for money and tangible longevity, not short term benefits.”

European Metal Recycling Chooses Bandvulc and Fulda

European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR), a global leader in recycled metal products and environmental services, has selected Bandvulc and Fulda tyres as policy fitment for its southern UK based fleet operations. Adam Wilkes, Transport Manager for EMR‘s Southern Region commented: “We have run extensive tests and trials with a variety of tyre brands at a selection of our operating centres and found the Bandvulc package to be the most cost effective solution for our business both in regards to up front costs and final PPK rates. We believe in simplicity so chose not to run casing banks or value management of assets. The Bandvulc offer was straightforward and uncomplicated and hence, more attractive”.

Bandvulc Invests £300,000 in ‘World Class’ Production Process

Perhaps in an effort to practice what it preaches, Bandvulc recently demonstrated some examples of innovation in in-house design and engineering. As a result, the company has now changed the way it handles over 18,000 truck tyre casings per month and has named this new process Avalon (a reference to the company’s King Arthur-themed production process).

As with the Avalon of King Arthur, where the magical sword Excalibur was forged, company representatives are keeping the Avalon of Bandvulc something of a mystery. However, according to the company, the fact that it was designed, manufactured and installed using internal expertise means the £300,000 investment has gone a lot further than it would have done if outside consultants and engineers were used.
