Bridgestone amongst top 10 Sustainable Development Enterprises in Vietnam
BridgestoneIn mid-December Bridgestone was named amongst the Top 10 Sustainable Development Enterprises in Vietnam. This is the fifth year Bridgestone Vietnam has been named in the Top 100 and is the only tyre industry representative on the list, according to local news reports. The list is compiled by Business Council for Sustainable Development Vietnam. (VBCSD) under the auspices of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
Pirelli CEO wins Romanian Order of “Industrial and Commercial Merit”
PirelliThe executive vice chairman and CEO of the Pirelli Group, Marco Tronchetti Provera, was recently named as a Commander of the Romanian order of “Industrial and Commercial Merit” in appreciation of his “important contribution to the strengthening of the bilateral relationship” between Romania and Italy.
Aquaplaning measuring device wins Autocar technology award

Tyre specialists shortlisted across Garage Star Awards regions
The Garage OmbudsmanTyre specialists may not have been named as outright winners this year, but there was at least one tyre retailer named in most of the Motor Ombudsman’s regional Garage Star awards categories. Nearly 1,100 customers submitted a nomination for an individual team member or business accredited to one or more of The Motor Ombudsman’s four Motor Industry Codes of Practice, who they felt had gone above and beyond to assist them during the last 12 months.
‘Circle of the Best’ – presidential accolade for Dandelion rubber researchers
On Wednesday, Germany’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the winner of the 2021 Deutscher Zukunftspreis (German Future Prize), an accolade bestowed upon those promoting technology and innovation within the country. This year the award went, perhaps predictably, to the research team at Biontech for their work developing Pfizer’s Covid-19 mRNA vaccine, but the awards event also honoured research into finding a viable substitute for the rubber from the Pará tree.
Merityre celebrates hat trick of tyre industry award wins
MerityreMerityre is celebrating a hat trick of industry award wins this year, which honoured the tyre retailer for its service and retail excellence. The company, which has over 20 branches across the south of England, Merityre picked up two gongs at the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) Tyre Industry Awards including the Medium Tyre Retailer of the Year and overall Tyre Retailer of the Year awards.
Pirelli and Hankook rated on Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
HankookTyremakers Pirelli and Hankook are amongst those rated in the latest Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). Full results will be published on 20 November, but some details have been previewed already namely that Hankook has been recognized as the best-in-class sustainability leader in the (DJSI) World for the sixth consecutive year. Similarly, Pirelli scored maximum points in the social context for social reporting category.
A cause of great pride: Vredestein on Auto Bild honour
Apollo Tyres expresses pride in its Vredestein brand’s podium finishes in Auto Bild’s annual Tyre Manufacturer of the Year awards. The leading German car magazine awarded Vredestein joint second in the winter tyre category and joint third place in the all-season category.
Mickey Thompson, Cooper give Goodyear SEMA award, podium places
Mickey Thompson’s Baja Legend EXP off-road have claimed 2021 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show Best New Product Awards in the Tire and Related Product category. Mickey Thompson’s ET Street Front drag tyre and Cooper Tire’s Discoverer Snow Claw were also named runners-up.
Bridgestone Vietnam wins Best Supplier award from Toyota Motor Vietnam

IMI launches 2022 Awards
The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has launched its 2022 Awards. The IMI is calling for nominations for individuals and organisations that have excelled in meeting the last two years’ challenges. The Patron’s Award meanwhile aims to put the spotlight on an individual or organisation that has gone above and beyond in the last two years to support their local community. “There is no question that the events of 2020 and 2021 have challenged everyone involved in automotive”, explained Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI. BKT-supported Tractor of the Year 2022 announces winners
Agricultural tyre specialist BKT has supported the 2021 edition of the Tractor of the Year Awards, presented at the EIMA trade fair in Bologna. It is the second time the manufacturer has sponsored the awards, which recognise the most innovative and cutting-edge tractors on the market.
Michelin sustainability award entry ‘head and shoulders above rest’ – NTDA
Michelin’s successful entry for the Tyre Industry Environment and Sustainable Solution Award 2021 “stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of corporate ambition, vision and practical commercial initiatives across the whole field of tyre recycling, materials reuse and wider environmental campaigns,” according to the judging panel, NTDA chief executive Stefan Hay commented. The tyre manufacturer’s entry for the award highlighted its aim to create greater value at all stages within the circular economy.
Tirebuyer tops Newsweek customer service ranking
Newsweek; Statista; TirebuyerTirebuyer.com has been ranked first place by Newsweek in its Statista-powered search for the best customer service experience relating to online tyre buying in the United States. With a score of 8.50 out of 10, Tirebuyer was comfortably ahead of second placed Detroit Wheel and Tire (8.14) as we all third-placed Tire Rack (8.12). And while it is comparing apples and oranges, Tirebuyer also outshone other well-known names in different by not unrelated categories – none of which scored higher than 8.45.
