TAFF nomination “a great honour” – Infinity

Infinity Tyres Europe has called its nomination for the 2011 NTDA Industry Advertising Campaign TAFF Award “a great honour”. Infinity Europe’s general manager Jorge Crespo continues: “it represents a recognition by the industry of the effort and activity carried out in advertising and communication within the UK. I would really like to thank everybody who voted for us as an alternative to the way of doing things". Other nominees for the award are Continental, Hankook Tyres, Michelin Tyres and Pirelli Tyres UK, with the advertising campaign coming from print, TV, radio or Internet.

Hankook reports “positive feedback” following e-cube truck tyre launch

Hankook reports that it has received “positive feedback from many blue chip fleets” following the introduction of the e-cube fuel efficiency orientated commercial vehicle tyre range. The e-cube, which was launched in the UK at the end of 2009, is designed to offer low rolling resistance, long mileage and good retreading capability. According to the company, the e-cube also boasts green credentials courtesy of “lower hazardous materials and low rolling noise.” Since its launch it has been trialled by many of the company’s customers and has successfully built a solid reputation for superior quality and value for money.

“In today’s market fleets are constantly looking to lower their transport costs. Hankook appreciates the emphasis placed on this and the need to invest in the development of quality products that also incorporate essential environmental credentials. This led to the introduction of the e-cube commercial vehicle tyre range which we are proud to report is proving popular amongst our customers,” said Tony Lee, managing director of Hankook UK.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres receives Queen’s Award

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres today hosted Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands, Paul Sabapathy CBE at its Birmingham facility, where he presented the company with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of the company’s sales achievements in the international trade category. “It is an honour to receive this award,” said Dunlop Aircraft Tyres chairman Ian Edmondson.

Hankook presents Motor Transport Awards Fleet Engineer of the Year award

On 7 July tyre manufacturer Hankook announced the winner of the Motor Transport Fleet Engineer of the Year award which was presented to Paul Pinfold from Indesit at last night’s awards ceremony in London. Shortlisted candidates also included Dan Bauckham at Suckling Transport and Darren O’Donnell at Coca-Cola Enterprises. The award, sponsored by Hankook, was presented to Paul Pinfold by Barrie Horrocks, Hankook sales director, TV Personality Chris Tarrant and Sky Sports Presenter Millie Clode.

With the process for the NTDA 2011 Tyre & Fast-Fit Awards (TAFF) Awards is well under way, the names of the finalists can now be revealed. NTDA members were invited to submit nominations in the five categories of the awards and the most popular companies go forward to the final voting stage. Out of this world development may have TPMS application

A team of NASA scientists have been honoured for a development that has the potential to further increase tyre safety. The scientists, which are based at NASA’s Langley Research Center, were named winners of the 49th Annual R&D 100 Award for their work in developing the “SansEC Temperature Sensor.”

NTDA adds tyre retail gong to TAFF Awards line up

The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has added a new retail-orientated award to its Tyre & Fast-Fit (TAFF) line up. The awards are given in a number of categories (tyre manufacturer, wholesaler, and environmental award to name but three) but 2011 brings with it the introduction of "tyre centre of the year". Retailers will be able to put forward a tyre or fast-fit depot for consideration and those nominated will be subject to a 'mystery shopping' exercise and rated on their performance.

ATS Euromaster awarded top human resources honours

Fast fitter ATS Euromaster has been given HR Magazine’s “Best HR Team – Private Sector” and “Most Effective Use of Internal Communication” awards, recognising a year in which human resources strategy was used to help the company through the difficulties of the recession. The company entered 2008 with severe economic problems and had to close approximately 80 of its smaller service centres. The department used employee forums, road shows, DVDs and training programmes in a three-year strategy designed to make the company communicate better internally and provide a better service for customers. The Awards, run by HR Magazine, were presented to Group HR director Irene Stark and Jane Linnell, Group Internal Communications Manager, in front of more than 500 guests, most of them senior HR professionals from top UK companies.

Bridgestone nets second Boeing supplier award

Bridgestone Corporation is one of 16 companies, and the only tyre maker, to be honoured at this year’s Boeing Supplier of the Year awards. The Electrical/Hydraulic/Mechanical Standards category award is the second consecutive Boeing supplier honour for Bridgestone; the Japanese manufacturer was chosen from a pool of some 17,500 active Boeing suppliers in more than 50 countries around the world.

TyreSafe gives Cumbria Police annual award

TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson has presented its annual award to PC Shaun McKeown, Forensic Vehicle Examiner for Cumbria Police Collision Investigation Unit, and Sgt Graeme Hodgson from the Roads Policing Unit at the Tyre Recovery Association’s annual dinner held at St Johns Hotel in Solihull on 17 June. Jackson said: “Our thanks go to Cumbria Constabulary for its relentless drive in supporting tyre safety. Not only has it been a great partner behind the scenes but has also been at the fore in many of our initiatives, as well as promoting those of its own.

Franchise award for etyres

The winners of the 22nd bfa (British Franchise Association) HSBC Franchisor of the Year Awards, supported by Express Newspapers, have been revealed in front of nearly 300 of the UK's franchise businesses and experts.

Five winners across three categories were selected following 15 finalist presentations to the expert judging panel in May. The winners, revealed at the Heritage Motor Centre, Warwickshire, were felt to bring to life the most entrepreneurial, ethical franchising in the UK today, regardless of business sector, size or geography.

Four suppliers honoured in inaugural Michelin awards ceremony

On June 15, Michelin presented awards to four of its suppliers in recognition of their exceptional contribution in 2010. Held in the tyre maker’s home town of Clermont-Ferrand, the ceremony followed a rigorous assessment of the Michelin Group’s portfolio of suppliers.

Apollo fleet awards aimed at encouraging best practices

In order to recognise and reward fleet operators who fuel the growth of India’s economy, Apollo Tyres has introduced the Apollo Fleet of the Year Awards. Through these awards, Apollo intends to annually honour commercial vehicle fleets that operate in India and encourage the uptake of innovative practices within the sector. The tyre maker says it is “looking to create a platform for information exchange and sharing of best practices within the transportation industry, enabling more and more fleet owners to move up the value chain.” The first awards ceremony, covering four categories, will be held in September 2011.

Michelin Supplier Award a ‘great honour’ for Lanxess

Lanxess has expressed its pride in receiving one of the inaugural Michelin Supplier Awards. The German specialty chemicals company was one of a number of key suppliers acknowledged by Michelin at an awards ceremony held in France on June 15, and upon receiving the company’s award Dr. Joachim Grub, head of Lanxess’ Performance Butadiene Rubbers business unit stated “we consider it a great honour to be one of the winners of the first Michelin Supplier Award.
