Bridgestone conducts more Driver CPC training with Roadside course

More bus and coach workshop technicians have taken part in the Bridgestone Roadside course; a two-day initiative that trains technicians in health and safety, customer care and assessing the roadside situation. Three member companies of the Guild of British Coach Operators – Skills Coaches from Nottingham, Selwyns from Runcorn and Richmond's from Cambridge – have attended the course, which qualifies delegates for 14 hours of Driver CPC accreditation under JUAPT (CRS 1280 and 1117 modules) and awards them with a Roadside Technician ID card.

Goodyear reacts to tyre manufacturing innovation award

The endorsement of Goodyear’s truck tyre retread cushion life extension as “Tyre Manufacturing Innovation of the Year” by Tyre Technology International has been greeted with “honour” by Jean-Claude Kihn, chief technical officer for The Goodyear Tyre & Rubber Company. The Multi-Piece Cushion technology was called “a big advantage for Goodyear Authorised Retreaders.”

Industry innovators honoured at Tire Technology awards

Tomorrow’s tyre industry is not only shaped by external influences such as legislation and growing environmental awareness; the tyres we will drive on in future are today’s breakthrough developments. Each year the most outstanding of the previous 12 months’ crop of innovations are acknowledged by the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence. This year’s awards ceremony was held on the evening of 15 February in connection with the Cologne, Germany-based Tire Technology Expo. Five winners were chosen by the 21-member industry panel – Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear, Rhein Chemie and Environmental Waste International.

Parts Alliance calls for support of automotive training

Automotive business group, The Parts Alliance used the event of National Apprentice Week (6-13 February) to call for the UK automotive aftermarket to increase its support of training and apprenticeships. “The best investment our industry can commit to, alongside the best equipment, is training,” said Mike Smallbone, The Parts Alliance, garage programme manager.

CLAAS awards Mitas for innovations

In January Claas awarded tyre maker Mitas with the Claas Supplier of the Year Award 2011 for Innovation for Mitas’ CHO tyre. “Mitas won the award from among 900 serial part suppliers,” said Jens Steinhardt, Mitas’ key account manager. Bosch Rexroth and Raba were short-listed for the innovation award. Mitas developed the CHO tyre in cooperation with Claas.

Avon supplies tyres for inaugural Gulf 12 Hours

Avon Tyres Motorsport has supplied tyres to the inaugural Gulf 12 Hours event in Abu Dhabi on 20 January. The event was held at the Yas Marina Grand Prix circuit, featuring GT3 cars and CN2-class sports prototypes competing in a two six-hour races, the first of which took place in the heat of the day, the second under floodlights in the evening.

Nankang nets 2012 “Taiwan Excellence” award

Nankang Rubber Tire has been granted a “Taiwan Excellence award 2012” from the country’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. The award was given for six Nankang tyre products, including the company’s first ever ‘green’ tyre, the ECO-1. Nankang was also awarded for its NS-20 passenger car tyre, FT-9 off-road tyre, SV-2 winter tyre, ESSN-1 asymmetrical tread winter tyre and Roadiac motorcycle tyre. The Nankang tyres were selected from a pool of 1,145 products.

Stapleton’s head of marketing and range planning, Stephen Childs says the company’s latest NTDA TAFF Awards Tyre Wholesaler of the Year award – its second in as many years – and its leading position in UK tyre wholesale can be explained by the company’s “working for the customer” philosophy: “We’re keenly aware that it’s tough out there for our retail customers – and that’s why we’re working harder than ever to gear up our service to meet their needs quickly and accurately.”

Aeolus, Antyre, Profil, Treadsetters and Uniroyal all at Brityrex 2012

Brityrex International 2012 in Manchester later this year will feature exhibits from Aeolus, Antyre, Profil, Treadsetters and Uniroyal in addition to those that have already committed to bring a presence to the show.

According to the show organisers ECI International, the latest names to confirm their attendance include: Uniroyal Truck Tyres, the Chinese manufactured brands Aeolus and Antyre, UK-based international wholesaler Treadsetters and Profil Tyres, the Polish car tyre retreader. They join other names such as Infinity Tyres, Westlake, Matador, Kleber agricultural and Cooper 4×4.

Encircle: Pirelli most recommended brand in 2011

Research conducted by Encircle Marketing reveals that Pirelli was the most recommended tyre brand in the UK during 2011, the second year running for the Italian-based manufacturer. The analysis, which continuously monitors brand recommendations in the market, found that Pirelli came top with 6.7 per cent of all recommendations.

British motorcycle dealers vote Dunlop RoadSmart tyre best accessory

Dunlop’s RoadSmart motorcycle tyre range has won plaudits from UK dealerships, who voted it the “Best Bike Accessory” at the British Dealer News Industry Awards 2011. The award was presented at the British Dealer News Awards Evening on Sunday 22 January 2012. The event followed the opening day of the Motorcycle Trade Expo at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

Indian fleets honoured at Apollo awards ceremony

On 23 January Apollo Tyres held its inaugural Apollo Fleet of the Year awards. With the awards, the tyre maker’s aim was to acknowledge the importance of safety, technology, sustainability and customer service initiatives to fleet operators in India. Taking away the large operator award was VRL Logistics, while Sangha Freight Carrier secured the honour in the medium operator category. The two top winners and other awardees were selected from more than 5,140 entries received from fleet operators across India.

Stoke tyre retailer wins Dragon’s business competition

A Stoke-on-Trent tyre retailer has been named a winner of Dragons’ Den investor, Deborah Meaden’s Local Business Accelerator competition. The proprietors of For Tyres, Anthony Rogers and Kevin Ecclestone said that the company will benefit from three months’ free advertising and business mentoring following its win in the North Staffordshire region, supported by local newspaper and Tyres & Accessories neighbour, The Sentinel. Nationally over 3,000 entries were received from businesses of more than one but less than three years old.

Texa launches Axone 4 tablet

Seen the adverts where the surgeons, teachers and housewives seem to be able to do virtually any daily task with the aid of their ipad? Well with the launch of the Axone 4 diagnostics tablet, Italian garage technology manufacturer Texa aims to this mentality into garages.

The Axone 4 features a large 9.7" TFT touch screen, capable of high resolution graphics (1280 x 1024). All processes take place by keying directly onto the screen (where, when necessary, the software brings up a drop-down keypad), whilst the frame only features an on/off swithch and a multifunction button.

What Car? Awards highlight Hankook’s product development efforts

On 12 January What Car? hosted its ‘car oscars’ in London. Hankook Tyre UK serves as associate sponsor of the What Car? Awards, and the tyre maker had extra reason to celebrate when the Kia Rio was named this year’s ‘Ultra Low Carbon’ award winner. Hankook is an original equipment supplier for the Rio, with the Kinergy Eco in size 185/65 R15 88H one of the tyre options available.
