Prema Canada, ULC, one of North America’s largest distributors of tyre and wheel service supplies, has named AME International as its supplier of the year. The award was presented last month during the company’s annual distributor training and vendor trade show in Toronto.
Vipal has been recognised for its activities in international markets in an awards ceremony hosted by Porto Alegre trade association ADVB. President Arlindo Paludo received the 2013 Export Award for Market Diversification on 8 July, joining other exporters from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in a variety of categories. Paludo said: “This award is one of the fruits of Vipal’s entire 40 year history. We have always bet on developing products featuring high quality and technology, and have never set environmental preservation aside. It’s a great pleasure to see important competitions like the Export Awards recognizing that.”
Continental garnered a number of winter tyre accolades in the first half of 2013, most recently receiving a coveted award from the UK’s Auto Express magazine. Continental’s ContiWinterContact TS850 ‘Best Winter Tyre’ for the second consecutive year in the 2013 Product Awards.
Aebi Schmidt has selected Hankook’s Vantra LT tyre for its Swingo 200 street cleaning machines. At over four tonnes, the Swingo 200 is tough machine that can expect a long and arduous working life. This specialist machine also boasts a large hopper capacity, resulting in a 50 per cent bigger payload than other street sweepers.
The vast majority of tyre industry visitors to Tyrepress.com in the past month have registered their vote in the 2013 NTDA TAFF Awards according to the latest Question of the Month poll. 97 per cent of those registering their opinion on the question, “Are you going to vote in the 2013 NTDA TAFF Awards?” said that they already had voted, while a further one per cent said they intended to do so. The remaining two per cent of those surveyed said they did not intend to cast a vote.
In June Hankook Tyre UK marked the ongoing service of its staff and presented members of the team with awards for outstanding service. The lunch recognised the 10 year anniversary for two members of its senior staff who both started work at the company in 2002.
UK sales director, Barrie Horrocks, was awarded for his outstanding service after celebrating 10 years with the company last year. Horrocks joined the company as commercial sales manager, a role he was in for 9 years before being promoted to sales director in 2011.
German magazine Off Road’s readers have chosen Goodyear’s Wrangler DuraTrac as the best off-road product in the ‘Traction Tyres’ category. This was the first time the magazine has invited its readers to vote on tyres alongside their favourite vehicles, and the Goodyear tyre beat all the other products to the inaugural edition of this honour.

The voting process for the TAFF Awards has already begun and ends on 27 September. The big difference this year is that voting is only via the NTDA website (www.ntda.co.uk/TAFF) and not by post, as in previous years. For the second year running, the TAFF Awards are sponsored by speciality chemicals company Lanxess.
ATS Euromaster has been awarded a safety accreditation by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in its 2013 Safety Awards. ATS-E reduced the number of lost time accidents, recording an unprecedented 25 per cent reduction in 2012 compared with the previous year. This is particularly notable, ATS-E says, since it had already reduced its lost time accidents by 58 per cent between 2007 and 2011. The RoSPA Safety Awards recognise health and safety success and offer organisations a prime opportunity to prove on-going commitment to raising health and safety standards. The tyre specialist is the only company of its kind to be recognised in this way.
The National Tyre Distributors Association has unveiled its 2013 shortlist for each of the five balloted categories in the Tyre & Fast Fit Awards. The Association also called for nominations for the Innovation Award and for the Tyre Centre of the Year Award, entering its third year as part of the annual British tyre industry Oscars. Voting this year will be 100 per cent online, with NTDA members and non-members alike eligible to vote. The Awards are sponsored by speciality chemicals group Lanxess for the second successive year, and the media partner is Tyres & Accessories magazine.
Infinity Tyres reports that the company is proud to be nominated in the industry advertising category of the 2013 NTDA Tyre and Fast-Fit (TAFF) Awards. This is the second time in three years that the company has been nominated in this category. This particular award showcases the most memorable tyre advertising programmes and covers various media channels, from print to TV as well as online advertising.
Bridgestone’s voluntary efforts to reduce carbon emissions have been praised by the Freight Transport Association. The tyre maker shares that FTA climate change policy manager Rachael Dillon has “welcomed” the work Bridgestone is carrying out, following the Department for Transport’s overall commendation of self-regulation across the sector.
Apollo Tyres’ Chennai facility in southern India has won the Platinum prize in the large size category of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) Quality Systems Awards for Manufacturing 2012. This highest-level award was presented to Apollo Tyres by Saurabh Chandra, secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India.
