Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has chosen Nexen Tire as an ‘excellent supplier’ at an awards ceremony recently held in China. The ‘2014 APAC Supplier Town Hall and Awards Ceremony’ were held in Shanghai to honour the global suppliers FCA considers have delivered the best quality, brand values and technical skills.
Starco’s Croatia-based rim manufacturing operation, Starco Beli Manastir, has been voted the best mid-size company in Eastern Croatia and as such honoured with a “Business Fly” award. The company was nominated for the award by the Croatian Ministry of Economy based upon its track record in recent years, including growth of turnover, number of employees, operating profit and export achievement. Starco BM managing director Mario Biscan received the accolade on behalf of the company from the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, at a ceremony in the regional capital, Osijek. The operation will compete for the national title of best “Business Fly” company in a couple of weeks’ time.
Kumho recently became the first Korean tyre manufacturer to receive Renault’s Quality award. Sechang Park, chief operating officer and senior vice-president, accepted the award on the tyre maker’s behalf at an event held at Renault Group’s world headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, during October.
Tyre manufacturing machinery and systems supplier, Mesnac recently won the “Golden Rubber Award” at China International Rubber Industry Expo, which is also known as CIRI Expo. Mesnac was also recognized as one of the “2014 Top Ten Leading Brands” in China.
Family-run business Modern Tyres has been named Northern Ireland tyre retailer of the year. Northern Ireland’s largest independent tyre retail chain, which is also the ninth largest in the UK, employs over 200 people in 30 depots across the province, and also has 10 depots in the Republic, after acquiring Hanover Tyres in July last year.The company will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
English-language Polish weekly the Warsaw Business Journal has honoured Bridgestone with an ‘Investment of the Year’ award. The financial publication chose Bridgestone as one of three recipients due to the funds ploughed of late into its Poznań and Stargard Szczeciński plants.
Trelleborg has announced that it will stream the Tractor of the Year 2015 awards ceremony live on the Trelleborg Wheel Systems website and on the Trelleborg stand at leading agricultural exhibition, EIMA International 2014 in Bologna, Italy today (12 November).
Upon releasing its 2014 Top 100 Global Innovators list on 6 November, Thomson Reuters commented that its top 100 most innovative companies achieved nearly double the 6.85 per cent annual revenue growth rate of S&P 500 firms while increasing their research and development budgets by an average of 17 per cent year-on-year. One familiar tyre industry name on this list of worthies was Sumitomo Rubber Industries; the company views its inclusion on this year’s list as “further evidence of the great acclaim that we have earned for these and other innovative research and development efforts.” This is the second Top 100 appearance for Sumitomo Rubber Industries in the four years the list has been published – Thomson Reuters also chose to include the company in 2011.
The UK tyre industry and various government agencies will forge a closer working relationship following a meeting hosted by PACTs at the House of Commons on 5 November. Continental’s TrueContact has been voted a winner at the New Products Showcase Awards during this year’s SEMA show. The TrueContact took first place ahead of the Cooper Discoverer SRX and Nitto EXO Grappler AWT in the ‘Tire and Related Product’ category. The awards finalists in 16 categories were selected from nearly 2,000 new products.
James Russell Owen (24), a student at the world-famous Royal College Of Art (RCA), has won the Royal Automobile Club’s ‘Best of British Design’ Award . Owen informally entitled his design ‘Wolseley Voyager’ and took the 1899 Wolseley Voiturette – a fascinating pioneer British motor car – as part of his inspiration.
Although only a concept at present and “still some way off” from its commercial release, Mitas holds high hopes for the PneuTrac, a product it says combines the best of both worlds in traditional pneumatic tyres and rubber tracks. The Czech Republic-based tyre maker is carrying out intensive tests on a prototype PneuTrac fitted to an 18-inch rim, has begun dynamic testing using a 38-inch fitment and is planning to test a new, third size. Mitas says it will announce its plans for PneuTrac at the EIMA agricultural exhibition in Bologna, Italy at a press conference scheduled for 13 November.
Treadsetters (Part of the TIA Group) won the best stand award at this year’s Brityrex 2014 Show. Having gone with the primary objective of promoting the company’s high tyre and wheel brands, winning the award was described as an “unexpected bonus”.
