For the third time in five years, Goodyear’s Europe, Middle East and Africa business unit has been acknowledged by the Luxembourg Business Federation (FEDIL). The latest honour, this year’s innovation award, was given for the tyre maker’s IntelliMax Groove Technology for truck tyres, which was first introduced on the Fuelmax S steer axle tyre.
The Uniwheels Germany factory in Werdohl delivers alloy wheels to a number of Volvo models, including the XC60, XC70 and XC90. This supply has been acknowledged the car maker; at a ceremony held in Sweden at the end of last year, Uniwheels Germany received a 2014 Volvo Quality Through Excellence Award (VQE Award). The company says it obtained this prestigious award by achieving the maximum score in all 12 relevant criteria categories.
The annual Top Technician competition, which promotes and rewards the best repairers and workshops in the UK, invites fault-finders with at least three years’ practical experience to try out the initial online quiz. The multiple choice quiz is open until March 2nd and covers theory as well as repair scenarios. It has been devised by Chief Judge Ian Gillgrass of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) alongside his expert team of judges which this year includes previous winner Steve Smith and James Dillon.
Tructyre Fleet Management has made software systems provider CAM its ‘Supplier of the Year’ after receiving over 72 per cent of the votes from the senior management team. Tructyre MD Glenn Sherwood said that CAM “has worked really hard in 2014 to meet the needs of the business and the industry as a whole.” Mike Allen, managing director of CAM, said that its achievement had “been made possible because the organisation has been open and collaborative making for a dynamic and fruitful partnership.”
Nexen Tire’s Roadian HTX RH5 has won a US Good Design Award. The company’s N’FERA RU5 also won the Korean Good Design Awards and the firm’s N’blue Premium won the Korean Pin up Design Awards.
The US Good Design Awards is an annual design awards programme organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design (Illinois) in cooperation with the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.
The Parts Alliance has been recognised for providing the ‘Best UK Automotive Transactions in 2014’ in Deal Feed International’s inaugural Sector Success Awards. The website’s new business awards examine mergers and acquisitions across the globe, asking a panel of financial professionals and writers to judge award winners across various segments. The Parts Alliance’s victory comes on the back of “the group’s rapid growth and financial performance as well as other key strengths such as customer service, employee development and overall strategy,” according to the Alliance’s statement.
Valeo Service UK has won the IAAF Commercial Vehicle Supplier of the Year award at the IAAF (Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation) Annual Awards Ceremony, held recently at the ICC (International Convention Centre) Birmingham.
For the IAAF Excellence Awards, nominees have to provide entries to IAAF, which are then assessed by a panel of expert judges, selected by the IAAF for their experience in the independent aftermarket. Valeo collected the award from IAAF chief executive Wendy Williamson and sports broadcaster, Garry Richardson.
It’s now two years since Hankook Tire began supplying AH12 steer and Z35A drive axle tyres to bus manufacturer Blue Bird Corporation for original equipment fitment on its school buses, and the US-based company has recognised Hankook’s efforts by bestowing it one of ten 2014 Outstanding Supplier Awards; Hankook award success was in the Polymer category. This is the second year in a row Hankook has received the award; the tyre maker says its back to back wins underscore the commitment shown in its original equipment activities with Blue Bird Corporation.
Halfords Autocentres has called 2014 a “record year” for its automotive apprentice programme. 72 new apprentices joined the scheme this year, leading to Halfords’ claim that it is the largest programme in the UK automotive industry. The servicing chain crowned third year NVQ Floyd Ullah (19) from Scunthorpe the winner of its annual apprentice competition, noting that competition for the accolade is growing annually.
Honda builds vehicles at nine manufacturing facilities in the US, and has received original equipment tyres from Bridgestone Americas for many years. To honour the tyre maker’s green efforts, at its 22nd annual Environmental, Safety and Ergonomics Symposium, Honda acknowledged Bridgestone’s Wilson (North Carolina) tyre plant with three ‘Green Factory Environmental Achievement Recognitions’. Honda recognised the Wilson facility in three categories: energy reduction, natural resources and pollution prevention.
A public relations campaign supporting the launch of a Goodyear-brand tyre in China has been honoured as one of the world’s 50 best public relations programmes by The Holmes Group, organiser of the SABRE Awards. At the 2014 Global SABRE Awards, an event billed as the “elite of the elite” that brings together the finest from the SABRE Awards competitions in the Americas, Asia-Pacific and the EMEA region, Goodyear was named winner in the specialist audience – marketing to men category.
On 1 December, Bridgestone Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd was recipient of a ‘Thailand Automotive Quality Award’ (TAQA) – Outstanding Satisfaction for Tyre’ award, a distinction given only to companies who have received a TAQA award for five consecutive years. The award was presented by Pramode Vidtayasuk, Thailand’s Vice-Minister for Industry, at a ceremony in Bangkok.
