The closing date for entries to the 2016 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards is 2 August. Last year’s awards saw 55 finalists battle it out and there are no indication’s this competition will be any less competitive.
Goodyear has presented its European 2016 TruckForce Awards in Luxembourg, recognising the customer support of its 2,000-strong network. The awards ceremony was part of the second international TruckForce Convention and was held in parallel with the launch of the new Dunlop on-road truck tyre range.
Bridgestone’s DriveGuard run-flat tyre has been crowned Auto Express Product of the Year 2016. The touring tyre has been recognised for extending run-flat technology to cars previously unable to fit such products. The tyre became available in the UK in April following its January launch in Monaco.
Gavin Johnson, development manager for Cooper Tire Europe’s Avon Tyres Motorsport department in Melksham, UK, has won the prestigious Lone Star JR Johnny Rutherford Award. Created to honour the IndyCar participant who best exemplifies outstanding character, integrity and service, Johnson was awarded with a custom trophy and a $1,000 cheque.
On 2 June, seasoned technicians Lloyd Cullen and Steve Abrahams were crowned Auto Windscreens’ first ever ‘Clearly the Best’ 2016 champions, both winning a coveted trip to compete at Auto Glass Week in the US (5-7 October).

TyreSafe has relaunched its Tyre Safety Companion smartphone app. Named one of the best motoring apps in 2015 by leading motoring magazine Auto Express, the app offers Britain’s drivers a range of essential tyre safety guidance. Key advice includes details of how to undertake regular maintenance checks, what to do at the roadside in the event of a puncture or incident and the use of temporary spares.
ATS Euromaster has been awarded gold accreditation from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for the third successive year. The award recognises ongoing outstanding performance in delivering a safer work environment. The network is the only national tyre specialist to be recognised at the highest level.
The Reifen 2016 Innovation Awards winners have been announced as part of the trade fair’s opening celebrations. Messe Essen and the German Federal Association of Tyre Dealers and the Vulcanising Trade (Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur – Handwerk, or BVR) presented the awards for “notably pioneering developments” to Bridgestone, Michelin, 4JET Technologies, and ASE Corghi. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company received two prestigious North American supplier awards for its performance in environmental sustainability and environmental stewardship by Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA).
SIA is an Indiana-based manufacturer of the Subaru Outback, Legacy and Impreza line of vehicles. Goodyear supplies original equipment tyres to the popular Subaru Legacy model.
Nexen Tire has received three A’ Design awards for its latest tyres. Nexen’s All Road Transform concept tyre and Winguard Snow’G WH2 received gold awards, in addition to the N’Fera RU1 being granted a silver award. The company’s three products competed in the vehicle, mobility and transportation design categories.
Earlier this month, the annual Punjabi Icon Awards were held in Mumbai, India, and Surender Singh Kandhari was amongst those honoured at the ceremony. The Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board (PCHB), an organisation representing Sikhs and Punjabis in the city of Mumbai and state of Maharashtra, awarded Kandhari for his achievement in the global corporate sector.
Van Fleet World has presented Michelin’s CrossClimate tyre range with a second fleet award in as many months. The tyre was named winner of the Innovation Award at the Van Fleet World Honours 2016 to follow its Best New Product gong presented by Fleet News in March. The latest award was presented to Andy Fern, Michelin’s head of fleet, at the RAC Club in London before an audience of senior executives from across the fleet sector.
Mobile tyre-fitting specialist Tyres on the Drive has won the Judges’ Award for Leadership at this year’s Northern Tech Awards in Liverpool. The Cheshire-based company was also named the 12th fastest growing tech business in the North of England and Scotland, having achieved 73 per cent revenue growth for 2013 to 2015, in a league table of the top 50.
Mitas has earned recognition as a partner-level supplier for 2015 in the John Deere Achieving Excellence Program. The partner-level status is Deere & Company’s highest supplier rating. The Prague based company was selected for the honour in recognition of its “dedication to providing products and service of outstanding quality as well as its commitment to continuous improvement.”
