In addition to a number of popular and highlight competitive Tyre Industry Awards, the NTDA also recognised two of its leading regional leaders – Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells.

In addition to a number of popular and highlight competitive Tyre Industry Awards, the NTDA also recognised two of its leading regional leaders – Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells.
The 2016 Tyre Industry Awards held in October was sell-out event once again. And this was despite having moved to a new venue (Birmingham’s Vox Centre) and it being just the second year of the resurrected conference. To top it all more than £4000 was raised for the NTDA’s chosen charity, the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights, which is backing the training, development and travel support of Paralympic athletes preparing for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Voting has begun for the IAAF’s Annual Awards, with winners set to be unveiled at the association’s annual gathering held at the ICC in Birmingham on Thursday 15 December. The award ceremony will welcome around 600 aftermarket personnel, with industry-leading motor factors and suppliers eager to win the coveted awards.
The Trelleborg Wheel Systems manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka was recognised for its export achievements when it was honoured with a Presidential Export Award in a ceremony presided over by Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena in Colombo.
The Parts Alliance has been nominated for the ‘Car Distributor of the Year’ award, which is given annually by the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF). Winners of this and other categories will be announced at the IAAF Awards Dinner. The event itself will see around 600 people gather at Birmingham’s ICC on 15th December for an evening’s entertainment hosted by journalist John Sergeant.
Micheldever Tyre Services is celebrating after being voted Tyre Supplier of the Year at the inaugural Power Awards, organised by Workshop magazine. The award was voted for by the magazine’s readers, made up of workshop professionals at both independent and franchised dealers.
Alan Baldwin, sales director at Micheldever Tyre Services, said: “We’ve always prided ourselves as the wholesaler and distributor that goes above and beyond for our customers, so it’s rewarding to have been named Tyre Supplier of the Year.
Bridgestone’s Bethune, France; Burgos, Spain; and Poznań, Poland tyre manufacturing plants were honoured at the General Motors 2015 Supplier Quality Excellence Awards. The quality managers of the three plants accepted the awards at the ceremony held at GM Europe headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany on 16 September 2016.
Universal Tyres’ Chelmsford site’s victory in the Tyre Retail Centre of the Year category at the Tyre Industry Awards has been lauded by Michelin. The site became one of Universal Tyres’ eight Michelin Certified Centres earlier in the year, after passing the Michelin Auto Professional advocate programme’s audit requirements. It impressed the award judges with its modern design, well-stocked tyre storage and skilled, polite fitting team.
ATS Euromaster group operations director Peter Tye has expressed his “delight” at technician Lee Hayman being made the 2016 REACT Roadside Technician of the Year during the NTDA’s Tyre Industry Awards. It is the second successive time that an ATS Euromaster technician has won the award.
The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) 2016 Autumn Ball took place over the weekend at the Grove Resort in Hertfordshire.
Back-to-back titles as Tyre Manufacturer of the Year has likely led to back slapping all-round at Bridgestone. The tyre maker was selected ahead of fellow nominees Goodyear Dunlop, Hankook, Michelin, Pirelli and Yokohama to take the award for a second consecutive year at last Thursday’s Tyre Industry Awards, and this victory was further sweetened when Bridgestone scooped the Staff Training & Development Initiative of the Year award.

The Tyre Industry Awards have been presented for 2016 during the sold-out NTDA Annual Dinner, this year hosted by the Vox Conference Centre on the site of Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre. In addition to the various gongs, the NTDA presented Sir Tom Farmer with the National Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Tyre Industry, sponsored by Hankook UK, while Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells were also made NTDA Honorary Life Members. Presented by television personality Suzi Perry, the winners were decided by a panel of leading industry judges, and the results live-tweeted by Tyrepress via its Twitter feed.

ReifenDirekt.de, Delticom’s mytyres.co.uk equivalent in Germany, has won first place in TestBild’s latest online tyre retailer test.
ReifenDirekt.de won with a score of 2.31 based on four categories with different weightings, namely: “choice/selection”, “tyre prices”, “service and advice” and “privacy and security”. In addition to the extensive review of the shops has TestBild also evaluated customer reviews of each provider.
Solvay, Sylvaine Neveu, a researcher at the firm’s Research and Innovation entity within the group’s Global Business Unit Silica, has won the Irène Joliot-Curie 2016 award for work on energy saving tyre technology. She was honoured in the category “Woman, Research and Enterprise”, granted by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research.
The Automechanika Innovation Awards 2016 have been announced – and tyre manufacturer Continental and tyre equipment manufacturer Corghi are amongst the winners. On 23 August 2016, the independent jury of nine experts reached agreement on eight award winners whose innovative solutions and future-oriented products will be presented for the first time in an interactive special show in the ‘Festhalle’ during the coming Automechanika Frankfurt on 13 September 2016.
