Manchester photographer Greg Harding has received a national award recognising outstanding professional images in the car and truck industry. The prestigious British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) judged that Harding’s photographs capture the drama and detail of high performance tyres for manufacturer Giti Tire, presenting him with the Qualification Award for his portfolio of work.
South Korea’s Nexen Tyre has announced that the company ranked fourth out of 12 tyre brands in the passenger car segment of the 2017 JD Power Original Equipment Tyre Customer Satisfaction Study for the second consecutive year.
Online search and booking site AA Garage Guide has launched a Garage of the Month Award. AA Garage Guide states that the awards, first presented in January this year, provide the opportunity for garages listed on the AA Garage Guide to be acknowledged for their hard work and good customer service. Mima Rybanska, marketing manager at AA Garage Guide, said: “The AA Garage Guide Garage of the Month Award is the perfect opportunity for garages across the UK to be acknowledged for their great service. We award garages who have performed well and received positive customer service feedback.”
A key event at Jungheinrich’s suppliers’ day on 6 April was the presentation of the Jungheinrich Production Supplier Awards. The forklift truck manufacturer and materials handling equipment company honoured its leading suppliers in five key categories. Wenzel Industrie GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marangoni Industrial Tyres S.r.l., was named one of two top suppliers in the ‘FG Components’ category.
Exol Lubricants has won the award of excellence from the Commercial Boat Operators Association (CBOA) for its economic commitment to the waterways. The award was presented to Exol sales director and IAAF CV Committee chairman Steve Dunn at the FTA Multimodal awards, held at the Vox, Resorts World, in front of more than 600 guests.
The Chemical Marketing and Economics (CME) group of the American Chemical Society’s New York Section and materials company Trinseo have announced that Christopher Pappas, Trinseo’s president and CEO, will receive the Leadership Award for Outstanding Corporate Reinvention on 5 December 2017 at the New York Metropolitan Club.
Pappas was instrumental in tripling Trinseo’s value in the last three years through visionary leadership and focus on safety, technology, financial discipline and growth, the company said.
Automechanika Birmingham has won two industry awards for the successful launch of the show in 2016. Winning two accolades at the 11th Exhibition News Awards, on Thursday 30 March, the Automechanika Birmingham team proudly took to the stage to collect the awards for expanding the Automechanika brand and for the best UK trade show newcomer. Automechanika Birmingham was the only event to win two awards.

Alberto Bombassei, president of well-known brake manufacturer Brembo, has been nominated for induction into the Automotive Hall of Fame. The prestigious honour will be bestowed in a ceremony to be held this July in Detroit. Bombassei is only the ninth Italian to be inducted.
For the fifth consecutive year, Yokohama Tire Corporation has earned Caterpillar’s premier supplier award: the Platinum Level Recertification in its Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The award went to Yokohama’s factory in Onomichi, Japan, which produces OE and replacement off-the-road (OTR) tyres for a wide range of equipment.
Autosupplies has made picker, Tyler Clarke, its Employee of the Year. He was presented with his accolade by Bob Ackroyd and Maureen Cole of Alliance UK. Voted by the management team, Clarke also received vouchers and a trophy sponsored by UAN Ltd. The motor factor said it is keen to reward staff members that go above and beyond to deliver customer satisfaction and it is very much aware of the significant impact they have upon the business. The company now employs 87 members of staff.
After 10 years of collaboration, Tructyre has acknowledged Bandvulc’s position as a “strategic partner” in its business.
In 2014 Tructyre embarked on an aggressive three-year business plan following on from their acquisition of P K Commercial Tyres in 2012. According to Tructyre, when the plan was instigated it was key that their strategic partners were on board. With 10 years of partnership behind them, Tructyre reports that “the relationship has flourished even further in the last three years with proactive initiatives in distribution, product (launch of Tructyre’s Re-Trak range), tyre management and service.”
Continental Tyres has been awarded Consumer Superbrands status for 2017. This follows the release of the latest results of the long-running annual survey, which has been identifying the UK’s leading brands since 1995. The process, managed by The Centre for Brand Analysis (TCBA), questioned 2,500 British adults who assessed just over 1,500 brands. Consumers judged the brands on three key criteria: quality, reliability and distinction.
Wendy Williamson, Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) chief executive, has received the Lifetime Achievement award at the Car & Accessory Trader (CAT) Awards 2017. This year, the event moved north and was held for the first time in the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on 10 February, welcoming a number of leading aftermarket professionals.
The business success of Westgate Tyres, achieved concurrently with raising a family and latterly while battling ill health, made Jane Bailey Foxy Lady Drivers Club’s Woman of the Year 2017. Her story, told in the Q&A below, illustrates her determination to make Westgate a success, as well as the way in which a love of cars brought her back to the tyre business, and shows the generations of her family working to make the dealer a more appealing destination for female tyre buyers.
