New products and brand support for Cooper, Avon ranges

Recent initiatives to increase awareness of the Cooper tyre brand in the UK and Europe have yielded positive results, and therefore Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe not only intends to continue these efforts, it has begun extending them to the Avon brand. During Reifen 2016, Tyres & Accessories caught up with Jeff Schumaker, managing director and vice-president of the tyre maker’s European operations, and discussed where Cooper Tire Europe is heading with its two brands in regards to products, positioning and promotion.

Cooper employee honoured with Lone Star JR Johnny Rutherford Award

Gavin Johnson, development manager for ‪Cooper Tire Europe’s Avon Tyres Motorsport department in Melksham, UK, has won the prestigious Lone Star JR Johnny Rutherford Award. Created to honour the IndyCar participant who best exemplifies outstanding character, integrity and service, Johnson was awarded with a custom trophy and a $1,000 cheque.

Cooper Tire Europe will host brand ambassador and Formula One grand prix winner, David Coulthard on its stand (3A14) in Reifen’s Hall 3 from 24-27 May. Coulthard will sign autographs on Tuesday 24 May.

Dmack launches UK-made gravel tyre range

After what it says was an intensive development programme, FIA World Rally Championship tyre supplier Dmack has launched a new range of gravel tyres. These tyres have been designed and produced in the UK and developed specifically for competitors in WRC 2 and those driving R5 class cars.

Avon Tyres revamps Castle Combe bridge, marking 60th anniversary of sponsorship

Avon Tyres has revamped its “landmark” Avon bridge at Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire. The brand is marking more than 60 years of its sponsorship deal with the circuit, which is only 11 miles from Avon’s base in Melksham; in fact, a recent renewal of its sponsorship will take the brand through to 75 years of association with one of the fastest tracks in the country.

Cooper increases football alliance as Avon becomes Everton’s Official Tyre

Avon Tyres will become the Official Tyre of Everton Football Club in the Barclays Premier League 2016/17 season, with three other partnerships giving the brand exposure at every professional level of the sport in the UK. The brand joins its sister Cooper brand in football sponsorship, the latter having been the Official Tyre of Arsenal for the last two seasons.

Avon launches StreetRunner tyre for small-capacity motorcycles

Avon Tyres has introduced the all-new StreetRunner range of smaller-sized motorcycle tyres for the learner and commuter market. The tyre maker says the StreetRunner is specifically engineered for entry-level bikes that offer less power, but require great tyres with excellent grip, good mileage, nimble handling and strong stability.

Avon Tyres to start 2016 bike season early at Motorcycle Trade Expo

Avon Tyres is getting ready for the new motorcycle season by attending the 2016 Motorcycle Trade Expo on 24-26 January. Calling it the top motorcycle trade show in the UK, Avon said it would use the event to raise awareness of its product range, while using the opportunity to present its dealer support schemes.

Avon Tyres back in Isle of Man action at Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix

The Isle of Man is getting ready for the roar of racing motorbikes once more. The 2015 Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix kick off this weekend, and Avon Tyres, which has a history of participation dating back to before WWII, will be there, providing tyres for the vast majority of competitors in the 500 and 350 Classic TT races. Avon Tyres Motorsport’s Steve Smith said, “Just about all competitors in the 350 and 500 races will be using Avon racing tyres, either the AM26 or AM22, or a combination of the two.”

Avon Tyres British GT reaches penultimate round at Snetterton

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship returns this weekend, 22-23 August, for its penultimate round at one of the calendar’s fastest circuits, the Snetterton 300. The Norfolk track is the second of seven in the 2015 calendar to feature two one-hour races, giving the drivers ample opportunity to gain points over the weekend.

Success for Avon in 2015 Isle of Man TT Sidecar races

More than 100 competitors used Avon tyres at this year’s Isle of Man TT. Competitors covered the 37.73 mile road circuit, touching 200mph on little more than country back roads, making the perfect tyre selection and setup essential. The manufacturer had its greatest taste of success in sidecar racing, sweeping the podium in both of the Sure Sidecar races.

Avon launches new TrailRider adventure sport touring motorcycle tyre

Avon has launched its new TrailRider motorcycle tyre, a product it calls its “most advanced tyre yet”. Making the point that the large trailbike segment has not been a big priority in markets more focused on sportsbikes, tourers, and naked bikes, Avon says that 600cc-plus dirt-styled bikes have become more important over the last decade. Bikes like the BMW R1200 GS and Triumph Adventure are amongst the best sellers in many markets, Avon adds.

New fitments expand Avon’s AV11 van tyre range

Avon Tyres has more than doubled the number of fitments available in its AV11 van tyre range. A total of 15 sizes are now offered by Avon stockists; the new additions include 15 and 16-inch rim fitments suitable for an array of popular light commercial vehicles, including the Iveco Daily, Vauxhall Vivaro, Volkswagen Transporter Window Van and Peugeot Boxer. Speed ratings of up to 118mph are available.

Avon enters tenth British GT Championship with new slick

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship will begin at Oulton Park over the Easter bank holiday, signalling the tenth year of Avon Tyres as the series’ title sponsor. the tyre supplier has introduced a revised slick tyre for the 2015 season, to be supplied to all GT3 and GT4 teams on the grid. Avon says the tyre has increased durability and performance across a greater range of ambient and track temperatures.
