Avon signs 3-year Euro and Dutch GT4 series exclusive supply deal

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe’s Avon Tyres will be the official tyre supplier to the European GT4 Cup and Dutch GT4 Championship for the next three years. Avon has ramped up its GT tyre products since its introduction into the British GT Championship in 2006, and the brand’s representatives say the latest contract shows its boosted reputation as a “world class supplier” of the product. All tyres for both championships will be manufactured in the UK at Avon Tyres Motorsport’s headquarters in Melksham, Wiltshire.

Avon takes on British Hillclimb title sponsorship

Avon Tyres has signed up as title sponsor to the MSA British Hillclimb Championship, which will duly be known as the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship. The series, which got underway on 4 February at Leicestershire Circuit, is organised by the BARC and includes rounds at leading UK hillclimb venues, as well as Jersey and Guernsey.

Avon deploys new tyre for British GT Championship

The Avon brand, manufactured by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Ltd, has unveiled the fourth generation of its GT racing tyre since it took over as sole supplier and title sponsor of the series in 2006. Avon Tyres Motorsport technical manager, Mike Lynch, believes the new tyre will be around a second quicker than its predecessor around most circuits on the British GT calendar but, importantly, will also be durable enough for teams to use strategies demanding longer stints.

Avon supplies tyres for inaugural Gulf 12 Hours

Avon Tyres Motorsport has supplied tyres to the inaugural Gulf 12 Hours event in Abu Dhabi on 20 January. The event was held at the Yas Marina Grand Prix circuit, featuring GT3 cars and CN2-class sports prototypes competing in a two six-hour races, the first of which took place in the heat of the day, the second under floodlights in the evening.

Avon launches AV11 van tyre

Avon Tyres has launched the latest in its range of van tyres, the AV11, available now in sizes 215/60R16 C, 205/65R16 C, 215/65R16 C and 235/65R16 C. Standing alongside the AV9, Avon says the new tyre will have an expanded fitment range later in 2012.

3 in 1: Avon launches new sport tyre range

Avon Tyres says 2012 is looking to be an exciting year, not least due to the launch of its new high-performance sports tyre, the 3D Ultra Sport. This tyre makes its debut at this weekend’s Motorcycle Trade EXPO show in Birmingham and will replace the popular VP2 range. Three distinct versions of the 3D Ultra Sport are being introduced, offering owners of sports motorcycles a choice to suit the sort of machine they have and riding they do. The versions are:

Avon centenary show bike shod with new 3D Ultra tyres

Motorcycle Live is on at the NEC in Birmingham until 27 November, and amongst the plethora of moto-related sights at the show is Avon Tyres’ one-off show bike, built especially to mark the company’s centenary of motorcycle tyre manufacture. Avon says that the Yamaha YZF-R6, which can be found on the Speedycom stand, has been treated to a list of mouth-watering aftermarket parts including an EK chain and sprocket kit, Mivv exhaust, Pazzo levers, Hel brake lines, R&G Racing tail tidy, flush-fit diamond indicators and integrated rear indicators, Bonamici rear set footpegs, double-bubble screen, carbon fibre rear hugger, front fender and fuel-tank protector. In addition, the bike will provide visitors to the show with a first look at Avon’s new 3D Ultra Supersport tyre, part of a new range to be launched early in 2012.

Avon Tyres launches new websites

Avon Tyres has revamped its website and the new version is now live at www.avon-tyres.co.uk. The updated site features “a completely re-designed layout to give improved access to information on products for cars, 4x4s, motorcycles and vans.” According to the company, the site points to local Avon Tyres outlets through the “Find A Dealer” section. It also links to Avon Motorsport’s website, which has also been enhanced as one of the company’s chief marketing tools.

Graham Matcham joins Cambrian as Continental brand manager

Following last week’s news that Graham Matcham left Cooper Tire Europe’s Avon two-wheel tyre operation, it has now been announced that he has joined leading two-wheel tyre wholesaler,Cambrian Tyres in the new position of Continental brand manager, motorcycle.

Graham Matcham leaves Avon Tyres

Graham Matcham, global motorcycle sales manager at Avon Tyres, has left the company after 23 years’ service to pursue other opportunities in the motorcycle industry. Announcing Matcham’s departure from the tyre maker, European sales and marketing director Nigel Hampson said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Graham for his role in building a successful Avon motorcycle sales division and I wish him all the best for the future. Gary Bretherton, UK motorcycle manager, will continue to manage the UK market and all trade enquiries should be directed to him. We will inform the trade shortly of the revised structure to our Motorcycle Sales Department.”

Avon-shod Caterham breaks donut world record

Avon Tyres’ niche CR500 product has helped long-time partner Caterham Cars and stunt driver Terry Grant set a new Guinness World Record for the number of donuts completed in one go, spinning a 150bhp Caterham Roadsport consecutively 566 times. Having seen his own previous record of 161 donuts beaten on Sunday, 4 September by one of Caterham’s rival sportscar manufacturers at 283, Grant was determined to reclaim his place at the top of the Guinness World Record table.

Avon to honour Castle Combe’s 60th anniversary

Avon Tyres has announced that it will support the Castle Combe race event held on September 3 to honour the Wiltshire track’s 60th anniversary. Avon’s global motorcycle sales manager Graham Matcham said, “We have a very close working relationship with Castle Combe and with both companies being so near it is understandable that we have used our ‘local’ circuit almost constantly over the last 60 years to help develop our world-beating tyres. We are delighted to be taking part in this exciting event and are looking forward to showing Castle Combe’s visitors our 100th anniversary display.”

Avon Distanzia tyres fitted to charity biker’s dream ride

Since Andrew Gordon was told that cancer had returned to his liver and was now inoperable following years of treatment, his love of biking and desire to help the hospital at which he has been treated have led to his plan to ride 5,000 miles around the coast of the UK. His Ride for Life aims to raise money for The Royal Marsden Hospital, London and tyre manufacturer Avon is clearly pleased that its tyres will be fitted to the Honda XLV1000 Varadero, on which he will complete epic journey. Avon Tyres to supply Classic Safari Challenge competitor’s tyres

Shropshire couple Keith and Norah Ashworth, owners of Avon Tyres fleet customer Burnt Tree Vehicle Rental, are to tackle the Classic Safari Challenge 2011. The pair will contest a classic 1964 Mercedes-Benz 190 Fintail, shod with Avon rubber, in the event, which runs from August to September. The event, organised by the Endurance Rally Association, covers more than 3,500 miles of stunning African landscape as it crosses Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa on its mammoth journey.
