Avon Tyres’ Storm 3D X-M has helped Polish stunt rider Maciej “DOP” Bielicki set a new world record for the longest recorded rolling burnout on a motorcycle. Using a specially closed road near the Harley-Davidson dealership in the city of Rzeszów, south-east Poland, Bielicki set the record on his Street Rod bike, spinning the rear wheel for just under three miles. The recent replacement of the long-running Avon Storm sport-touring tyre range with the new Spirit ST hasn’t marked the end of the line for the Storm. Avon Tyres reports it has developed a new Storm Endurance motorcycle race tyre, and this has already gained its first competitive victory courtesy of Neate Racing’s win at the Spa Classic 4 Hour race in late June.
Avon Tyres has launched its latest sport-touring tyres, the Avon Spirit ST, in Portimao earlier this month. The newly appointed brand ambassador, Steve Parrish attended the launch and tested the new tyre. Avon Tyres has launched a motorcycle tyre fitment promotion for the 2014 riding season. From 1 April to 30 June, customers buying a pair of Storm 3D X-M, 3D Ultra Sport and 3D Ultra Supersport tyres from approved Avon stockists will get £20 off the fitting fee, or £10 off for one tyre. Avon motorcycle tyres are designed, developed and manufactured in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Following the introduction of the 3D Ultra last year, Avon is further expanding its motorcycle tyre range with the release of the Storm 3D X-M. In a short release introducing the new product, the tyre maker says the new X-M delivers 15 to 20 per cent greater mileage in comparison with the current Storm range. The sipes on the X-M also contain three-dimensional points that are designed to improve stability, grip, limit tread flex and allow the tyre to warm-up in less time – a feature also seen on the 3D Ultra. High performance single and multi compound super rich silica (SRS) treads are also present; Avon says these enhance wet grip. The tyre maker adds that the X-M possesses outstanding handling and stability qualities.
