The 2012 Formula One season has just ended, but Pirelli is eager to know sooner rather than later whether its services will be needed after next year. Autosport writes that Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery would be happy for the question of Pirelli’s F1 involvement beyond the current three-year contract to be settled quickly.

Maxxis has extended its promotional calendar range to three distinct publications for 2013: a new car tyre calendar, a dedicated motorcycle tyre calendar and a separate Maxxis Babes calendar. Maxxis says it will highlight its car tyres and sports sponsorship together, featuring Maxxis-sponsored Team Japspeed drift drivers alongside action images from off-road truck racing, ATV sport and the Dakar Rally. For bike retailers, Maxxis has produced a calendar with off-road and on-track action from Maxxis-sponsored British Superbike teams Swan Yamaha and Maxxis Apico Suzuki as well as Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki, the factory Kawasaki motocross outfit. The Maxxis Babes, popular with motorsport fanatics at the many events Maxxis attends, get a standalone calendar.
Maxxis International has aligned its brand with some of the UK’s biggest performance car shows and events in 2012, mostly in conjunction with the drifting team Team Japspeed, which it sponsors. “This season’s events have been some of the best yet, with amazing cars and bigger crowds than ever, and we are delighted with the response from what is, after all, a hugely knowledgeable and very demanding customer base,” said Maxxis International UK’s managing director Derek McMartin.
Last week Pirelli’s motorsport director again spoke out against the possibility of Formula One returning to a multiple tyre supplier championship. Paul Hembery commented to Autosport.com that a so-called tyre war would not make sense, as in his opinion it would make the racing less exciting and could adversely affect audience numbers.
Boasting a stronger presence at 2012’s Autosport show than on its debut the previous year, Maxxis International UK took the opportunity of the motorsport calendar opener to showcase the breadth of its product range. Managing director Derek McMartin said: “During our first visit to Autosport International last year our aim was to generate greater awareness by telling people all about the Maxxis brand.
Pirelli hosted a number of cars including the Mini JCW racing car to be used in the latest Pirelli-supplied series, the Mini Challenge, at the Autosport International Show. The company says the Birmingham NEC show is considered to be the motorsport season opener, giving participants and spectators the chance to come together and see a brief insight into the year ahead. In addition to the exhibition of cars, Pirelli used its association with Formula One to raise £725 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Exhaust manufacturer, Milltek Sport showcased new sponsorship deals, fitments and continued investment in its UK factory at Autosport International. The company will be a series sponsor of the MSA UK Time Attack series for the next three years, during which it will be the “Official Exhaust of Time Attack”. Milltek says the series, which includes road cars “with F1 power levels” will allow the company to participate in “a valuable two-way flow of technical information” between top teams and Milltek’s own engineers.
Pirelli has announced a new control tyre sponsorship with the Mini Challenge. The manufacturer is currently displaying several exciting competition cars at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham between 12 and 15 January. Pirelli will also unveil the latest livery for the Pirelli Star Driver UK programme, which since 2008 has given an up-and-coming talent a fully-paid drive on the British Rally Championship.

It will be hard to miss the Maxxis Babes in 2012 because the girls will be touring the UK in their very own BabeMobile – a VW camper van featuring a distinct livery purpose-designed for them by one of their legion of fans. The Babes will be using the orange and black BabeMobile to travel to rounds of the Maxxis British Drift Championship and the ACU Maxxis British Motocross Championship and to attend the various performance car shows and exhibitions that tyre manufacturer Maxxis will be supporting next summer.
Winner of the constructor’s title in the 2011 Maxxis British Drift Championship, Team Japspeed will demonstrate its skills at Top Gear Live, which starts today. The Maxxis-sponsored team will perform drift displays at the NEC Arena in Birmingham on 11-13 November and London’s ExCel on 24-27 November.
The F3 Euro Series will announce a new tyre supplier for 2012 as the existing deal with Korean manufacturer Kumho will not be renewed, Autosport.com reports. The website reports that the championship's managing director Walter Mertes says the amicable ending of the supply agreement meant the championship had lost “an always loyal partner”.

Pirelli’s announcement regarding the tyre selections for the Belgium, Italy and Singapore Grands Prix has been followed by the news that the manufacturer’s Motorsport director Paul Hembery doesn’t “think we’ll see the hard compound again”. Speaking with Autosport, Hembery stated that the medium compound P Zero F1 tyre is “proving sufficiently robust for the aggressive circuits”, speculating that a new compound could be inserted “between the current softs and mediums”, making the current medium compound the hardest of the four.
