Ho-Youl Pae becomes new Hankook COO Europe
Ho-Youl Pae has been announced as the new Hankook chief operating officer in Europe, following former COO, Jin-Wook Choi’s move to a consultancy role within the manufacturer’s global headquarters. Pae has been promoted from his previous role in the company as marketing & sales executive. Pae will also take on the position of senior vice president and member of the board of Hankook Tire.
Titan appoints Cowger to board
On 1 January 2014, Gary L. Cowger joined Titan International’s Board of Directors, replacing Mitchell Quain, who retired from the board on 31 December 2013 following a tenure of 17 years. Cowger is the chairman and CEO of GLC Ventures, LLC, a management consultancy on business, manufacturing and technology strategy and global organisational structures and implementation. He is also immediate past chairman of the Board of Trustees at KetteringUniversity (formally General Motors Institute) and he serves on the Board of Directors of Delphi Automotive and Tecumseh Products, as well as the Detroit Symphony and the College for Creative Studies.
Sale of Carlisle Transportation Products completed
On 31 December, Carlisle Companies Incorporated announced it had completed the cash sale of Carlisle Transportation Products to American Industrial Partners; an enterprise value of US$375 million was paid for the tyre, wheel and transmission belt manufacturer.
EU decision means UK MoT Test stays as is
As reported on the e-bulletin of the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation, the EU looks set to finalise its requirements for vehicle testing in a format which will allow the UK’s MoT regime to remain in its present form. The agreement follows many months of hard lobbying both in Brussels and here in the UK.
IAAF conference ‘a great success’
The IAAF’s conference has once again lived up to expectations with the delegates discussing the wide range of opportunities and threats for the ‘next generation’ of automotive aftermarket pioneers. Held at Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel at the National Exhibition Centre, delegates expressed their appreciation at the breadth and quality of the topics covered and the informed speakers who made presentations to nearly 100 aftermarket personnel.

The company says that the new membership will demonstrate MAM’s commitment to operating at the highest professional standards that NTDA members expect.
Vredestein and Carlsson extend cooperation
Vredestein and German tuner Carlsson have agree to extend their cooperation agreement for a further three years following the signing of a new contract on 3 December. This partnership is part of Vredestein’s Premium Styling concept and has already resulted in unique Mercedes-Benz models styled by Carlsson. In the coming years, the cooperation will move up a gear, focusing on the development of models such as the new Mercedes-Benz S, E and ML. Vredestein is the strategic tyre partner supplying its range of premium designer tyres to Carlsson within the partnership.

Nitto further grows Facebook fanbase
It’s been less than a year since Nitto Tire reported gaining its three millionth Facebook fan, and now the company says it has five million fans on board. Nitto attributes this social media growth to its engagement strategies, including its Nitto Ambassador Program, live multi-player mobile games and a proprietary automotive interest blog, DrivingLine.com. Utilising such tools, Nitto says it has generated a loyal community with fan engagement that goes beyond the traditional likes, shares and comments that exist in the social network platform.

Be-whiskered staff from automotive and cycle retailer Halfords have helped the company take the title for the most participants in Movember of any firm in Europe.
Toyo enters anti-trust plea agreement
On 26 November, Toyo Tire & Rubber entered into a plea agreement with the United States Department of Justice and agreed to pay a US$120 million fine based on charges that the company violated US anti-trust laws in connection with sales of automotive anti-vibration rubber products and constant-velocity-joint boot products. The Japanese company says it decided to enter into the plea agreement “after careful consideration of the applicable laws, and the results of the findings from the investigation.”
Autoparts UK launches new exclusive brand of batteries
Autoparts UK, one of the fastest growing motor factors, has launched an exclusive brand of batteries into the UK automotive aftermarket and signalled the introduction of more new brands in the future.
The Goliath brand of batteries joins Padtech brake pads, Disctech brake discs and Ultratec oils in being exclusively available from Autoparts, which has recently been subject to a massive rebranding exercise and the amalgamation of Apanels, a leading supplier of crash repair, body shop dry goods and key mechanical products.
