Ho-Youl Pae has been announced as the new Hankook chief operating officer in Europe, following former COO, Jin-Wook Choi’s move to a consultancy role within the manufacturer’s global headquarters. Pae has been promoted from his previous role in the company as marketing & sales executive. Pae will also take on the position of senior vice president and member of the board of Hankook Tire.
On 1 January 2014, Gary L. Cowger joined Titan International’s Board of Directors, replacing Mitchell Quain, who retired from the board on 31 December 2013 following a tenure of 17 years. Cowger is the chairman and CEO of GLC Ventures, LLC, a management consultancy on business, manufacturing and technology strategy and global organisational structures and implementation. He is also immediate past chairman of the Board of Trustees at KetteringUniversity (formally General Motors Institute) and he serves on the Board of Directors of Delphi Automotive and Tecumseh Products, as well as the Detroit Symphony and the College for Creative Studies.
On 31 December, Carlisle Companies Incorporated announced it had completed the cash sale of Carlisle Transportation Products to American Industrial Partners; an enterprise value of US$375 million was paid for the tyre, wheel and transmission belt manufacturer.

It’s been less than a year since Nitto Tire reported gaining its three millionth Facebook fan, and now the company says it has five million fans on board. Nitto attributes this social media growth to its engagement strategies, including its Nitto Ambassador Program, live multi-player mobile games and a proprietary automotive interest blog, DrivingLine.com. Utilising such tools, Nitto says it has generated a loyal community with fan engagement that goes beyond the traditional likes, shares and comments that exist in the social network platform.

On 26 November, Toyo Tire & Rubber entered into a plea agreement with the United States Department of Justice and agreed to pay a US$120 million fine based on charges that the company violated US anti-trust laws in connection with sales of automotive anti-vibration rubber products and constant-velocity-joint boot products. The Japanese company says it decided to enter into the plea agreement “after careful consideration of the applicable laws, and the results of the findings from the investigation.”
