Autopromotec Brings Industrial Vehicles to Fore at 2011 Show

Autopromotec 2011 will see a new initiative introduced to the show especially targeted at the industrial sector. Named the Autopromotec Industrial Vehicles Service, the feature will include a tour designed exclusively for exhibitors in maintenance and servicing and road transport vehicles alongside a special logo to identify exhibitors of equipment, components and spare parts for trucks within the pavilions of Autopromotec. The biennial international trade fair for automotive equipment and the aftermarket will hold its 24th edition in the Bologna trade fair area from 25-29 May 2011.

Trax Reports Successful SEMA Show

For the third consecutive year, the UK’s Trax JH Ltd displayed its products at the major US based SEMA show in Las Vegas. With the USA now also moving to lead-free balance weights, the company reports that visitors to November’s show expressed significant interest in the Trax range of quality steel adhesive weights, with agents and distributors now in place to take advantage of this move to using non-lead materials.

Indian Tyre Production, Exports Up in H1, 2010 – ATMA

During the first six months of its current financial year, India produced some 28 per cent more tyres than a year earlier. Data from national industry organisation the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (produced using information supplied by its eight member companies, who account for around 90 per cent of the country’s tyre production) states that 9.53 million tyres rolled out of ATMA member factories in India between April 1 and September 30 this year; in the same months of 2009 just 7.44 million tyres were produced. According to ATMA, production increased across all tyre market segments, the largest expansion being seen in the motor scooter segment, where production grew 67 per cent year-on-year. Passenger car tyre production in India increased 41 per cent to 2.09 million, while light commercial vehicle and truck/bus tyre production grew two and five per cent respectively. A total of 1.27 million truck/bus tyres were produced in the April to September period.

Gajah Tunggal Boosts Profits with Increased Sales, Reduced Expenses

Indonesian tyre manufacturer Gajah Tunggal has increased its nine-month operating income (981.3 billion Indonesian rupiahs; £68.6 million) and net income (664.2 billion IDR; £46.4 million) by 29.4 and 10.7 per cent respectively on the back of rising sales in domestic and export sales during 2010’s first three quarters. A report by Bisnis Indonesia said the country’s largest tyre producer scored particularly high sales in the USA, which have risen 42.5 per cent to total 840.7 billion IDR.

India to Rely More on Synthetic Rubber: Lanxess

Tire Review reports that specialty chemicals firm Lanxess predicts an increase in demand for synthetic rubber in India, a country the company said has a long history in the production and consumption of natural rubber. “Driven by the needs of rapid modernisation, India is currently undergoing a shift toward replacing natural with synthetic rubber in a variety of applications,” the company said.

Goodyear Introduces New US Dealer Programme

Goodyear is phasing out its Gemini Automotive Care retail store format, and will transition existing dealers to its new Tire & Service Network concept, reports Tire Review. On 1 October, the tyre-maker began moving its Gemini dealers over to the new programme and replacing old signage. The transition will continue through the end of the year. Goodyear will announce full programme details at its annual dealer meeting in early 2011, the company said.

2011 Dates for Automechanika Middle East Exhibition

Auto parts and accessories show Automechanika Middle East has published the dates for its 2011 exhibition in Dubai, following the success of its 2010 show. The next Automechanika Middle East exhibition will run from 7 – 9 June at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre Dubai, U.A.E.

Exhibitor numbers hit an all time high at Automechanika Middle East 2010, with over 1,000 exhibiting (90 per cent international) from 46 countries. Of the 16,058 visitors from 111 countries, 49 per cent were international. Furthermore Automechanika Middle East now has a dedicated tyres and battery section in the show. Tyre manufacturers, suppliers and distributors now have a platform to meet new buyers and existing customers from the region.

Report: Indian Tyre Firms ‘Demand Suspension of Rubber Futures’

Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (Atma) reportedly sought suspension of futures trading in natural rubber (NR) on 20 October. According to India’s Business Standard newspaper Rajiv Budhraja, director general, ATMA wrote to the Forward Markets Commission (FMC) and the Rubber Board after rubber futures went up by 5 rupees for the November contract in one day reaching 191 rupees/kg from 186/kg earlier. By 20 October NR futures are said to have risen to 200 rupees/kg.

iATN's 'Knowledge Base' Exceeds Three Million Records

The International Automotive Technicians’ Network (iATN), has announced that it has recently surpassed three million records in its ‘Knowledge Base’, an online collection of automotive repair databases that contains technical information generated by iATN’s 72,000 active members in 154 countries. “The content in the Knowledge Base spans approximately 15 years and is based on the actual repair experiences and discussions of iATN members working on vehicles in the shop,” said Brent Black, iATN founder.

Infinity Tyres Raises Record Sum for BEN at NTDA Dinner

The recent NTDA annual dinner held in Manchester saw Infinity Tyres donate two return air tickets from London to Dubai (home of the Al Dobowi Group– owners of the Infinity brand). The tickets were auctioned by Peter Gaster, former NTDA chairman and raised £1600 for the BEN charity, which is reportedly a record for the event.

Conti Technology to Give Vehicles a ‘Sixth Sense’

Vehicles, like people, sometimes find it hard to get a grip – but at least our wheeled counterparts have Continental helping them out. The German automotive supplier has entered into partnerships with other firms to develop a new approach to sensor fusion, and Conti says the new system it has come up with can give drivers advance warning about low grip. The system was within the “Friction” project as part of the 6th Framework Programme, co-funded by the European Commission.

Goodyear 32nd on US Social Responsibility List

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has been named one of the Top 50 US companies for social responsibility by the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship and the Reputation Institute. The tyre manufacturing giant earned a rating of 74.4 in a survey of US consumers, leading to a ranking of 32nd on the 2010 Boston College Corporate Social Responsibility Index. Goodyear is the only company in the automotive or tire industries listed.
