The Tire Industry Association (TIA) announced the hiring of Megan Schwartzmeyer as director of membership. To meet the growing demands of the membership department, Ms Schwartzmeyer will focus on membership sales and services.

SmartTire Systems Inc has appointed Leif E Pedersen as the new president and CEO of SmarTire, effective immediately. Pedersen replaces Al Kozak who has left the company to pursue other interests.

(Akron/Tire Review) Dr. Patrick King, global electronics strategist at Michelin Americas Research and Development Corp. (MARC), has been awarded the 2006 Don Percival Award by AIM Global, an association for automatic identification and mobility and SCAN: the Data Capture Report, a newsletter targeting the automatic data capture market.
The Don Percival Award “acknowledges outstanding contributions to the advancement of automatic identification and mobility solutions,” according to AIM Global, and was presented to King in recognition of his work in developing and standardizing radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for tyres.
Automotive parts manufacturer Remy Automotive UK has announced a significant productivity improvement in its brake caliper operation, following a recent investment programme in its Leicester remanufacturing factory. In the past 12 months, Remy has invested more than £20,000 in a complete overhaul of operations at Leicester – this is on top of the £40,000 originally invested when Remy bought the plant in 2001 – and this has been rewarded by a 15 per cent increase in productivity.
An Amcast Automotive spokesman has confirmed the company’s Fremont and Gas City, Indiana plants will be closing down permanently in June. According to online news sources, director of human resources, John McDonagh, said: “We have recently announced to our employees that Amcast will be permanently closing its facilities in Fremont and in Gas City. Those closures will result in permanent employment loss for all employees at both sites. For the next 60 days, Amcast employees will be paid their normal wages and bonuses, and all benefit programmes will continue uninterrupted. “We are sorry to lose 500 members of the Amcast team.”
