After a successful show this year, and with 300 exhibitors already booked for 2018, Automechanika Birmingham has announced that the event will switch to a biennial format and run every other year from 2019.
Mahle Aftermarket’s technical training at Automechanika Birmingham proved to be a huge success as large crowds visited the stand to gather information on all of its product groups. The training was delivered by a team of Mahle experts and included key tips on working with Mahle products, as well as outlining the many benefits of each range.
Automechanika Birmingham 2017 represented the perfect opportunity for the UK’s automotive aftermarket to gather as higher technology vehicles continue to push up turnover by 2.4 per cent in 2016. 800 such companies were present at the Birmingham NEC for this year’s show. The aftermarket accounted for £21.6 billion in turnover – a figure boosted by the presence of the more high tech vehicles on Britain’s road in addition to recent record months in new car registrations. Additionally the increasing demand for digital services has helped to boost the online side of the segment, and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which reported the latest figures, states that more car parts, accessories and services are bought online than cosmetics or groceries. Tyres, alongside lubricants and filters, are the most commonly replaced part, and help account for some of the growth in digital sales, though demand for digital devices, including telematics and tyre pressure sensors, has grown fastest. Overall, the SMMT states that the automotive sector makes a contribution to the UK economy of £12.5 billion.
Bartec Auto ID Limited (Bartec) managing director, Colin Webb spearheaded the TPMS experts’ presence at Automechanika Birmingham 2017 by delivering a presentation on how to maximise TPMS revenue. Entitled ‘Six Steps to Success’, Webb addressed a full audience in the Technical Talks theatre by identifying TPMS profit opportunities available to tyre shops, what tools and equipment are required to carry out TPMS repairs, as well as the training and support offered by Bartec, the global market leader in tyre pressure and monitoring systems.
Valeo Service UK promoted its Tech Care Programme by highlighting its training opportunities and technical support at Automechanika Birmingham. As part of Valeo’s ‘We Care 4 You’ campaign, Tech Care offers advanced technical training. This keeps customers up to date with the latest tools and procedures via a variety of sources such as workshops, e-learning and webinars.
The Technical Seminar programme at the recent Automechanika Birmingham trade expo provided the perfect platform for ECOBAT Battery Technologies (EBT), formally Manbat, to inform and assist technicians with the direction that battery-related technology is taking in the automotive industry and the independent aftermarket particularly.
Brake Engineering presented a selection of high-end giveaways to a series of ‘Code Brakers’ on its stand at Automechanika Birmingham, including an iPad, iWatch, BOSE speaker, Beats headphones and Love 2 Shop vouchers. The ‘Code Braker’ competition proved popular with visitors throughout the course of the event, resulting in heavy traffic to the braking specialist’s stand on each day.
Following a competition recently held by Tyresure at the Automechanika exhibition for the chance to receive a free TPMS training session, the winner has now been confirmed as M-Sport Wheels Ltd. The business will receive comprehensive training from Tyresure’s TPMS experts, providing them with in-depth knowledge and IMI certification, once a suitable date has been arranged.
The magnificent Warwick Castle, bathed in hazy evening sunshine, was the perfect venue for Motaquip, as it celebrated its historic 35th anniversary on the first evening of Automechanika Birmingham 2017. General manager, Peter Cox, welcomed the Motaquip family and distinguished guests to the medieval fortress. Hosted by the Motaquip team, loyal customers from the UK and overseas were joined by members of the automotive media and treated to a sumptuous banquet complete with ice-cold bubbly in the castle’s majestic Great Hall.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ (SMMT) Open Forum returns to Automechanika Birmingham on 6 June, bringing together automotive supply chain companies and other stakeholders to highlight the cutting-edge technologies and trends that will influence the next generation of vehicles.
