Australian motorists have named Bridgestone as ‘Australia’s Most Trusted Tyre Brand’ for the seventh consecutive year in the annual Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brands award.The brand’s unblemished record thus remains intact, with Bridgestone the only tyre company to win the title since the tyre category was introduced in 2014.
As of 1 April, Tyremax will take over distribution of Continental truck and bus tyres in the Australian market. Pirelli says it “understands and fully agrees” with the decision to cancel this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix. The event was stopped after confirmation came that a member of the McLaren Racing Team has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the team’s withdrawal. The FIA and Formula 1 convened a meeting of the other nine team principals on Thursday evening, which concluded with the majority favouring stopping proceedings.

Sri Lanka’s Global Rubber Industries (GRI Tires) has acquired Australian tyre supplier Tradefaire International’s industrial tyre business, Axis Tyres Pty Ltd. The acquisition includes Axis locations in Melbourne (Altona and Braeside), Sydney and Adelaide. Together with GRI’s existing branch in Brisbane, the company now operates five sites in Australia.

Since 2013, Bridgestone has lent its name to the world’s foremost solar car race. Participants travel to Australia every two years for the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC), with this year’s event attracting 48 teams. In 15 October 2019 Tyres4U acquired Tyre and Tube Australia Pty Ltd (TTA).
