Kumho has replaced Michelin as control tyre supplier to TCR Australia, adding the race series down under to a touring car championship portfolio that already sees it providing tyres for TCR Europe, TCR South America, TCR Brazil, TCR Spain, TCR Eastern Europe and TCR Denmark. The tyre maker will also supply control tyres for the new in 2023 TCR World Tour.
Bridgestone China Asia Pacific (BSCAP) won Gold in both the CSR and ESG Leadership category, and the Best Environmental Excellence Award in the suite of awards facilitated by Pinnacle Group International. Bridgestone Australia & New Zealand’s ongoing commitment to the RYDA road safety education program and sustainable practices embedded within the Bandag retread business were highlighted as a significant contributor to the award victories. Australia’s government has included tyres in the list of products that industry must ensure are handled and ultimately disposed of in an environmentally appropriate manner. Last Friday, CTS Tyre Recycling broke ground on the first-ever tyre recycling facility in Western Australia. Construction work will begin in the coming weeks, and when the AU$7 million (£4.1 million) plant enters service, it will have a capacity to process around 30,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres a year with the possibility of doubling this at a later date. The facility’s aim is to help Western Australia manage the impact of Australia’s recently-introduced ban on waste tyre exports.
Engineers from Australia’s RMIT University have managed to replace 100 per cent of conventional aggregates in concrete – such as gravel and crushed rock – with rubber from discarded tyres to create a product that meets building codes. The team behind the project says that in addition to contributing to the circular economy, the new greener and lighter concrete also promises to reduce manufacturing and transportation costs significantly.

Titan International, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Australian wheel business to OTR Tyres, a Western Australia-based tyre, wheel and service provider. It anticipates closing the deal on 31 March 2022.

Australian waste tyre processor Pearl Global Limited, a firm claiming to possess a proprietary technology superior to traditional pyrolysis, has appointed a new chief executive officer. David Wheeley will commence in this capacity on 1 February 2022.

Otraco International is now part of Bridgestone Mining Solutions Australia. Bridgestone Corporation reports that after gaining regulatory approvals and satisfying other customary conditions, yesterday it completed the acquisition deal first announced in April. The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has spoken out to endorse the move Australian government’s move to prohibit the export of most unprocessed end-of-life tyres from December 2021. The only exception will be casings suitable for retreading or validated reuse. In addition, Peter Taylor, secretary general of the TRA urged DEFRA Secretary of state George Eustice MP to closely study this change in Australian law and consider whether the UK should follow a similar path:
