Michelin Shod LMP2 Makes Historic Hungarian Win

Michelin contributed to a motor racing milestone during the race at the Hungaroring near Budapest. For the first time since the start of the Le Mans Series in 2004, a round of the competition has been won by an LMP2 prototype. Strakka Racing's Michelin-shod HPD-ARX 01c caused a stir by claiming outright victory. All the LMP1 prototypes entered by Michelin's partners were hit by technical problems, including the Oreca-run Peugeot which was delayed by transmission trouble while leading. The collective rout of the front-runners enabled Michelin's sole LMP2 runner – the Strakka Racing HPD-ARX 01c of Watts/Leventis/Kane – to clinch outright victory.

Yokohama Advan Sport OE on New Cayenne

The latest generation Porsche Cayenne went on sale at the end of May, and Yokohama Rubber reports its Advan Sport has been approved by Dr. Ing. H.c.F. Porsche AG as an original equipment tyre on the luxury 4×4. The Advan Sport will be supplied in sizes 275/45R20 110Y XL and 295/35R21 107Y XL. Versions of the Advan Sport destined for the Cayenne were jointly developed by Porsche and Yokohama Rubber and bear "N-0" and "N-1" markings on the sidewalls indicating Porsche's approval. This latest homologation joins OE approvals for the Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Audi S8 and Bentley Continental as well as various models from Mercedes-AMG.

Toyo Announces Audi TT/S OE Supply

Toyo Tire & Rubber reports its Proxes T1 Sport (AO) has been chosen by Audi AG for original equipment fitment on the Audi TT and TTS models. The 255/35 R19 96Y size tyre will be, says Toyo, exclusive fitment on Audi TTS models specified with 19-inch wheels and “one of a select few makes” of tyres fitted to Audi TT models ordered with optional 19-inch wheels. The Toyo shod Audi models will be available in European, North American and Asian markets.

Michelin to Field Longer Lasting Tyres at Le Mans

Michelin is hoping to walk away with its 13th consecutive win at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. To achieve this, the tyre maker says its engineers, chemists, developers and technicians have prepared a new line-up of even more durable tyres. Working with its partners, Michelin has focused on increasing tyre life without sacrificing performance in other areas. This year the company’s stated goal at the 24 hour race is to quadruple the length of each stint for prototypes and to double them for GT cars.

Scorpion Launch VW Scirocco 1.4, 2.0 TSi and Vauxhall Tigra Exhausts

Scorpion has released two VW Scirocco exhausts and a new Vauxhall Tigra product onto the market. The Derbyshire-based firm had already released a version for the Scirocco TDI model last year, so the latest fitment is designed to appeal to the purist petrolhead, covering both the 1.4 and 2.0 versions.

After a considerable amount of road and dyno testing, the new system is available as a direct bolt-on replacement to the OEM part. Bolting directly to the rear of the factory catalyst pipe, the 70mm system is available in two fitments. Either a centre and rear box for those that want maximum extraction with minimum intrusion, or for those that prefer a sportier tone, a Sports bypass pipe is available, leaving just the rear box to handle silencing duties. One of the biggest advantages over competitor's designs is that Scorpion's engineers have invested considerable time in studying the flatter profile of the factory rear box when designing theirs.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 OE on Audi RS 5

Audi has selected Bridgestone to supply tyres for the 20-inch option on its new Audi RS 5 Coupé. As a result Bridgestone will supply its newly-developed flagship UHP tyre, the Potenza S001 in time for the car’s European launch in April 2010. Designed exclusively for the world’s most powerful sports cars, the Potenza S001 meets the performance targets set by German manufacturer Quattro GmbH for this new 450 hp Audi coupé.

“Bridgestone is proud that Audi has chosen the new Potenza S001 for such a dynamic performer as the Audi RS 5,” Didier Schneider, vice president original equipment, Bridgestone Europe said: “Bridgestone worked hard to meet the extremely demanding requirements in all areas of tyre performance.”

Pirelli Cinturato Tops Club, Magazine Tests

Pirelli’s Cinturato passenger tyre line dominated annual tests run by German auto club ADAC, Switzerland’s Touring Club (TCS) and the Austrian automobile club (OEAMTC), reports Tire Review. The Cinturato P7 and P6 were named best summer tyres in their categories for their “balance of ecological aspects with performance.”

Michelin to Field Aromatic Oil-Free Race Tyres at Le Mans

This year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, the 78th running of the famous endurance race, takes place on 12 and 13. Michelin says the weekend event will mark a new step in the firm's “commitment to protecting the environment”. The French tyre major’s participation in the Le Mans 24 Hours will, it says, feature an all-new range of eco-friendly tyres. In addition, Michelin will organise, for the second time, the "Michelin Green X Challenge" which has now become an integral part of the regulations that govern the discipline.

Michelin NA to Join Sebring Hall of Fame

Michelin North America will become the first tyre maker and just the fourth company honoured with induction into the Florida based Sebring Hall of Fame. The distinction was announced on December 3 by the Sebring Sports Car Racing Hall of Fame board of directors, and acknowledges Michelin’s unprecedented 11 consecutive overall wins and 31 class wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race.

Continental Launches ContiSportContact 5 P UHP, Tuning Tyre

Continental has announced the availability of its new tyre for high performance sports cars, the ContiSportContact 5 P. The tyre is already fitted as standard on several Mercedes AMG models, displayed alongside the new Audi TT RS at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Soars in Australian Test

Australia’s Motor Magazine has published its 2009 tyre test, and Goodyear is quite pleased about how its Eagle F1 Asymmetric has faired up. The Goodyear tyre scored 131.4 points across all the test categories, almost a full 17 points ahead of the next best performer, Dunlop’s SP Sport Maxx GT.

Conti Basks in Auto Express Test Win

Continental is rather pleased to have Auto Express magazine declare its ContiPremiumContact 2 the winner in this year's summer tyre comparative test.
