Midland Skip Hire signs up ATS-E to supply, service fleet

Nottinghamshire’s Midland Skip Hire has appointed ATS Euromaster to supply, fit and service tyres across its 62-strong fleet. ATS-E will provide monthly fleet inspections and rapid-response breakdown assistance across the waste disposal and skip hire company’s 37 trucks, eight trailers and five vans. The on-road fleet, plus 12 telescopic handlers used onsite for waste transfer, will be supported by the nationwide tyre specialist’s mobile service fleet – the UK’s largest at 1,000 vehicles.

Cooper predicts another bumper year for winter tyres

Following two harsh UK winters, Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is predicting a further move towards cold weather tyres this year, and a continued increase in the related sales of tyres designed to perform at optimum level at temperatures of less than 7 degrees Celsius. Cooper reports that it is working closely with tyre dealers to be ready for the surge in demand and will extend production of certain tyre lines to help meet these needs.

Tyre hotels “expected to be popular” – ATS-E

ATS Euromaster marked the end of the summer holiday period by opening its network of tyre hotels. The retailer is marketing the idea by suggesting that motorists can check-in their summer tyres for a winter break, while they enjoy the benefits cold weather tyres offer when temperatures drop below seven degrees Celsius. ATS-E states that it expects rooms at the hotels to be popular, given current weather predictions, and the desire not to be caught out for the third winter season running.

ATS Euromaster prepares for snow in next 8 weeks

With fevered anticipation – to use an inappropriate idiom – developing in the UK tyre business about the next winter season and the growth opportunities it may offer, ATS Euromaster has seized upon the predictions of meteorologist James Madden at Exacta Weather. He predicts October will see below average temperatures and snow in places, with heavier and more widespread snow storms in November and worse to come in December and January. ATS-E has taken the opportunity to remind businesses to prepare for difficult travelling conditions.

Hankook to launch new eco-winter tyre

While winter conditions in many of our neighbouring European countries are much more severe than here in the UK, Hankook representatives point out that some of these boast lower accident rates. Why? A major factor in this is down to tyre choice. Hankook therefore believes it is essential that “we educate our customers on winter tyres and contribute towards a reduction in motoring accidents during winter.”

Allied Bakeries sign ATS-E, Michelin for 3 more years

ATS Euromaster has announced that Allied Bakeries’ fleet of 756 trucks will run on Michelin-supplied rubber, managed by ATS-E for another three years. ATS-E revealed that the fleet, which also includes 180 trailers, has carried out confidential development work on tyre pressures, tyre longevity and fuel consumption in recent years with the support of both suppliers.

Kumho supplies six winter patterns to UK market

Kumho clearly believes the “wake-up calls” of the last two UK winters will drive demand for a wider range of winter tyres in the market, as it has announced it will supply six patterns for the 2011-2012 season through its distributor Micheldever Tyre Services. With another harsh winter on the horizon, Kumho expects demand for cold weather tyres to top the new heights seen in the past two years, listing tyres suitable for fitment on the smallest cars up to light commercial vehicles.

Stapleton’s aims to deliver cost-effective winter and all-season tyres

In this country the majority of motorists are not in the habit of fitting winter tyres at the end of autumn as they do in most other Northern European countries. A TyreSafe survey conducted last year showed that while 54 per cent of UK drivers felt that they were less safe when driving in winter, only a tiny fraction of them – just 3 per cent – actually took the precaution of fitting winter tyres. Admittedly, winter tyres are recommended, if not compulsory by law, across much of the continent – but the fact that they are not legally required here should not lead consumers to think they’re any less necessary – or any less valuable as a contribution to road safety.

Mytyres.co.uk stresses business-sense of winter tyre fitments

Delticom’s mytyres.co.uk website has suggested businesses can help staff, and secure reliable service throughout the winter, by fitting winter tyres. The website exemplifies the effect of fitting winter tyres from a major online supermarket grocery delivery service. Having fitted all its delivery van fleet with winter tyres the company told mytyres.co.uk that they had allowed its drivers to go to places and do things others cannot because of the conditions, in addition to improving its drivers’ safety, and that of other road users, with the additional grip and stability in snow or icy conditions achieved.

ATS Euromaster doubles winter tyre order

ATS Euromaster has doubled its investment in cold weather tyres to more than £6 million for winter 2011/2012, with orders spread across a mix of premium, mid-range and budget brands. As a result the company reports that it will be stocking a range of sizes suitable for most makes of car and van. Last year the company spent around £3 million on winter tyre stocks.

Chris Hufflett, group operations director of ATS Euromaster, told Tyres & Accessories: “Last year the UK had its first real taste of cold weather tyres and they quickly became ‘hot ticket’ items – we could have sold our stock several times over. Long range forecasts for this winter point towards it being the fourth bad winter in succession. If this rings true, it will drive a very strong market for cold weather tyre sales across the board.

ATS Euromaster wins Arc Fleet deal

ARC Fleet Solutions has switched its tyre-servicing relationship from a large national provider and appointed ATS Euromaster to supply, fit and service tyres across its 300-strong business rental fleet. The executive car and van hire specialist reportedly chose ATS Euromaster for the wide range of tyres it stocks in each of its 370 centres.

ATS Euromaster wins North-West tool hirer tyre service contract

Wrightington’s One Stop Hire, the largest independent tool and equipment hirer in the North West, has appointed ATS Euromaster to service tyres across the firm’s fleet of 30 light commercial vehicles and eight company cars. Steve Hitchen, managing director of One Stop Hire, says: “Our own business is modelled around being able to provide a one-stop-shop service to our customers, and that’s exactly what we need from a tyre service provider. ATS Euromaster has the expertise to supply and fit tyres for both our cars and light commercials – and can carry out the work in the most convenient locations.

HiQ promotes air-con servicing

HiQ has released a statement arguing for increased attention to be paid to air conditioning systems, following a 15 per cent increase in air-con related problems seen at HiQ branches. The seven out of 10 motorists that HiQ says fail to service their air-con systems regularly – some not at all – could experience decreased levels of fuel efficiency and even asthma-related health problems. The network’s fast fit manager Stuart Carr said that over time, air-con gas gradually depletes which then impacts upon fuel efficiency levels because the engine has to work harder.

Ramrod launches new safety cage

Ramrod-manufacturing, the UK based manufacturer of CV Tyre tools and safety equipment has launched the new Tire-safe safety inflation cage and the re-launch and re-brand of its range of associated workshop tools and safety devices.

The Tire-safe cage represents the newest product in the evolving Ramrod portfolio of truck and CV tyre equipment, which also includes the All-rim bead breaker and adaptor bar, the Hub-lift safe jacking point and the Wheel-riter rim and tyre lifting aid.

Michelin PPK contract a “sound business decision”

Stephen Blakely, managing director of Wigan-based Blakeley’s Waste Management Ltd, has referred to his company’s decision to renew its three-year pence per kilometre (PPK) contract with Michelin as a “sound business decision.” Explaining this in greater detail, Blakely said the waste management firm “previously suffered from frequent tyre-related downtime, but this began to drop noticeably with the Michelins. The peace of mind we get from Michelin rubber has been one of the driving forces behind our decision to renew this contract.”
