Huntapac signs on for three-year Michelin contract

A Lancashire company responsible for growing, packing and distributing vegetables across the UK has signed a three-year tyre contract with Michelin Fleet Solutions, covering its fleet of 48 tractor units, 56 temperature-controlled trailers and 42 tipper trailers. Under the agreement, Preston-based Huntapac Produce's in-house transport division, W&J Hunter Transport, will operate its Scania and DAF tractor units on a pence-per-kilometre (PPK) deal, while its trailers will be charged on a standard tyre purchase basis. The policy sees tractor units fitted with Michelin XZE2+ tyres on the steer and mid-lift axles and XDE2 Remix tyres on the drive axles. The trailers will operate on a mixture of Michelin new and Remix XTE3 tyres – all specific fitments for regional and national operations.

Michelin urges fleets to rate tyre dealer experiences

Information from ‘the coalface’ is being sought for a new Michelin website. As part of a stated drive to improve consumer power, the tyre maker is asking fleet managers to encourage their employees to share experiences they’ve had with tyre dealers; fleet vehicle drivers can post details of service and price on Michelin’s Tyre Dealer Review website and rate their overall experience out of five stars. By doing so, Michelin believes drivers can help others make an informed decision about the tyre fitting service they use.

ATS-E highlights October-March cold weather commuting

Tyre dealers have often emphasised the improvement in performance at sub-seven degrees Celsius that cold weather tyres offer, but the relatively mild weather of the 2011/12 winter may have diminished the upward momentum of consumer interest in the product. However, ATS Euromaster argues that an analysis of UK temperatures during peak driving hours in even the last winter shows that fitting cold weather products would have been worthwhile. Temperatures dropped below seven degrees Celsius during prime commuting hours on 147 separate days between 1 October 2011 and 31 March 2012. The statistics, provided by the Met Office, cover temperatures in 10 major UK cities from 7:00 till 9:00 and 16:00 till 18:00.

Nationwide Platforms signs ATS-E deal for 1,000-strong fleet

The UK’s leading powered access platform provider – Nationwide Platforms – has signed a deal with ATS Euromaster, which will see the tyre services provider manage tyres on a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicles. As part of the agreement, ATS Euromaster will monitor tyre wear and usage, carry out repairs and fit replacements across the company’s fleet. This includes around 160 cars, 170 vans, 120 trucks, 50 trailers and 610 specialist pieces of vehicle mounted plant.

Michelin, ATS-E to stage Eurotunnel tyre pressure roadshow

Michelin and ATS Euromaster will stage a ‘Fill up with Air’ roadshow at the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle terminal in Folkestone on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 April 2012, between 7am and 3.30pm, offering free tyre safety inspections for departing vehicles. Seven tyre specialists will check tread depths and pressures, inspecting tyres for potential safety hazards like objects penetrating the tread or lumps, bulges, cracks or tears to the sidewalls. The roadshow will offer free on-site puncture repairs for the first time, thanks to ATS-E’s involvement.

Michelin develops its retail position and Certified Centre Network

Michelin already has one of the most recognised brands in the market. Now the company is taking steps to ensure the distribution part of the business operates at the same level. At the end of February Tyres & Accessories met with Oliver Gros, head of ‘go to market’ distribution development within UK and Eire, who – you may remember from previous interviews in these pages – was previously head of two-wheel at Michelin Tyres Plc. At the same time we spoke with Mark Coleman, partnership and certification programme (part of what Michelin calls its distribution team, itself an extension of the sales and marketing team), with a brief contribution from sales director Malcolm Scovell who was en route to another meeting. The focus of conversation was on the development of Michelin’s position in the retail distribution of its various product lines and specifically on the effort Michelin is putting into its certified centre valued added scheme in order to re-develop its links with small and medium sized tyre retail businesses.

Carlsberg UK renews Michelin PPK tyre contract

Michelin Fleet Solutions has announced the extension of its pence per kilometre tyre contract with Carlsberg UK for an additional 12 months. The deal covers approximately 320 commercial vehicles and 147 urban trailers. The company has been fitting Michelin’s since 2007. The fleet runs on Michelin’s popular E-segment regional tyres for a mix of national, regional and urban operations.

ATSE Boss: Fuel costs dragging down motorists

Any glimmer of hope that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, would offer British businesses and motorists relief from the soaring cost of petrol and diesel – which earlier this month hit record UK highs – was quashed during yesterday’s Budget, that’s the view of Ian group managing director at one of Britain’s largest tyre retailers.

ATS Euromaster prepares for Olympic task

ATS Euromaster says it is ducking to meet the finish line of its preparations for the London Olympics in late-July through to 9 September, when the Paralympic Games close. The company has been introducing measures to ensure its ability to support customers in areas affected by the Olympic and Paralympic Games. With three centres located within six miles of the Olympic Park in Stratford (Bow, Leyton and Camden), the company has special reason to make special plans, though ATS-E says it is taking into account all of its 15 centres within the M25, those close to Olympic venues outside London and centres near major airports, where traffic is expected to reach record levels on 13 August (the day after the Olympic Games closing ceremony).

Sgfleet switches to Michelin tyre policy

Fleet management company sgfleet, which manages over 70,000 cars and vans worldwide and more than 2,000 in the UK, has switched to a Michelin tyre policy for its British fleet. Previously sgfleet fitted an alternative brand of premium tyre, however the company’s UK CEO David Fernandes made the change to Michelin after better results were obtained in tests.

Logistics firm signs ATS-E, Michelin tyre deal

International supply chain operator, Panalpina World Transport has signed an agreement with Michelin and ATS Euromaster. The tyre policy for its UK-based road fleet, which operates as far afield as mainland Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Cyprus and Africa, will mean the tyre service company will supply, service and maintain Michelin tyres across the company’s 40 trucks and 80 trailers. The company’s UK fleet is based between depots in Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth.

ATS Euromaster launches £320,000 Brighton service centre

ATS Euromaster will launch its new high-tech service centre in Brighton on 24-25 February. Previously a car showroom, the UK’s second-largest tyre retailer has spent around £320,000 renovating the site over the past six months. During the launch weekend, visitors to the Church Road centre will offer a range of exclusive discounts and promotions, including four Michelin tyres at a 50 per cent discount for the first five purchasers, the chance to try a state of the art Formula One simulator, and to see the Lotus Evora – a 162mph British GT racing car, which will be parked on the forecourt.

Bridgestone offering free industry seminars at CV Show 2012

Bridgestone has announced plans to offer free industry seminars on “some of the hottest topics” on the company’s exhibition area at this year’s CV Show. For the first time, visitors can get advice, hints, tips and join the debate on wheel security (cost and consequences), the future of fuel efficiency and how to save money through improving tyre maintenance. The seminars will run daily during the show, which is being held at Birmingham’s NEC, 24-26 April.

Firms still signing up as CV Show offers free tickets

Many truck-related and a number orientated business have signed up to exhibit at April’s CV Show. At the same time the partnership behind the exhibition has announced plans to give away free tickets to visitors that pre-register.

One exhibitor that is keen to make the most of its presence is Continental Automotive which is launching a new marketing initiative for 2012 called “Did You Know?” “The idea behind the campaign is to provide question and answer-style information for Drivers and Operators,” explains Jackie Dougall, marketing manager for VDO.

Hitachi Capital renews ATS Euromaster supply deal

ATS Euromaster has announced the renewal of its three-year deal with Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions. The fast-fitter and service provider supplies Michelin replacement tyres across a fleet of more than 51,000 cars, light commercial vehicles and trucks. The agreement extends a partnership that began in 1991. ATS-E will also provide a range of fast-fit services including batteries, brakes, exhausts, oil and shock absorbers, as well as MOTs, fault diagnostics and air conditioning re-gassing.
