Tom Allen named guest speaker at IAAF’s Awards Dinner

Household name and star of the stage and the screen, comedian Tom Allen, will be entertaining guests at the 2023 IAAF awards dinner being held on 7 December at DoubleTree Hilton, Milton Keynes. Allen is the host of The Apprentice: You’re Fired, co-host of Cooking With The Stars and is also a regular on Bake Off: An Extra Slice. In 2021 he became the co-host of Channel 4’s Complaints Welcome, and in 2022 he hosted brand-new Dave series The Island.

Daksh Gupta appointed as an IMI vice president

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has confirmed the appointment of Daksh Gupta, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Motor Holdings plc and Vice President of BEN, as a Vice President of the professional body. With three decades’ automotive experience, Daksh Gupta joins six other IMI Vice Presidents who all bring unprecedented hands-on experience, benefitting the IMI community, the wider sector and a new generation of people entering or considering entering the automotive workforce. Led by IMI President, Professor Jim Saker, the Vice Presidents’ vast knowledge and varying perspectives help the professional body adapt and respond to the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

NFDA chief executive joins Automotive 30% Club

NFDA chief executive Sue Robinson has joined the Automotive 30% Club, a voluntary network of MDs and CEOs from UK based automotive sectors. The organisation sets out to achieve a better gender balance within the automotive industry. It takes its name from its target of at achieving at least 30 per cent of key leadership positions in member organisations with diverse women by 2030.

IMI recognised for pandemic support of members

The Memcom awards have recognised the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) for its work in support of members in the Covid pandemic during 2020 and 2021. The institute won the Memcom Excellence 2022 award for ‘Best Member Support’, noting its focus on individuals’ wellbeing, communication, and work towards enhancing the skills and career opportunities of members.

IAAF Academy launched

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has launched a new training academy, designed to train, develop and upskill new and existing people working within the automotive aftermarket. The academy will evolve substantially when the new IAAF website goes live later this year, but IAAF has moved quickly to implement and promote initiatives and courses that support its growing membership.

IMI CEO recognised in Association Excellence Awards

Steve Nash, CEO of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is flying the flag on behalf of the automotive sector as he is shortlisted as a finalist for the Association Leadership Award in the annual Association Excellence Awards. The awards recognise the essential work that associations, trade bodies, unions and professional organisations conduct on behalf of their members.

RMIF Chairman Peter Johnson steps down

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) Chairman, Peter Johnson, has announced his retirement and stepped down from his duties on Tuesday 28 June at the RMI Board Meeting. Johnson has been RMI Chairman since June 2015, having previously been NFDA Chairman from July 2011.

The Independent Garage Association (IGA) has made a donation of £20,000 to automotive charity Ben on behalf of its members, to help the charity provide vital support to people in the automotive sector.

IAAF virtual conference urges aftermarket to futureproof industry

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has urged the industry to gear up for change in its ‘Aftermarket for the Future’ conference. Held on 2 December, this year’s conference, headed up by recently appointed chief executive, Mark Field.

The conference saw Field kick off the proceedings by celebrating the hard work the aftermarket has carried out over the course of what has once again been a difficult but rewarding year for the trade, before introducing the first speaker of the day, Quentin Le Hetet from GIPA.

Training, partnerships and philanthropy: NTDA national chairman Martin O’Brien’s speech

Speaking on behalf of the executive officers of the NTDA, national chairman Martin O’Brien welcomed delegates to the 7th NTDA Tyre Industry Conference (sponsored as it was by GB Tyres (UK) Ltd in association with Linglong Tyres), before updating us all on the continued growth of the association and addressing the subjects of recycling (via a TRA update) and industry training.

TIA board names Jarman as secretary

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) board elected Keith Jarman, president of AME International in Brooksville, Florida, as secretary on 23 June during its summer board meeting in South Dakota. A TIA Board member for nine of the past 12 years, Jarman’s election places him in line to become the association’s president in 2023-2024. He currently chairs the board’s membership committee. Jarman will begin his year as secretary in November and will move through the various officer positions until he becomes president.
