Off-highway tyre specialist BKT has been approved for Caterpillar SQEP (Supplier Quality Excellence Process) recertification and elevated from Gold to Platinum level for the year 2021.
BKT has set up one of the first-ever contactless E-ICU, COVID-19 treatment facilities to be built in India outside of a hospital. The centre is located at the tyre maker’s Bhuj site, and its doctor and eight healthcare workers are responsible for treating workers and their families affected by coronavirus.
In India, the lighting of a lamp symbolises new beginnings. For BKT, this tradition was a fitting gesture for observing a significant step in what it calls the ‘Next Level’: The lighting ceremony marked the start of festivities to celebrate the inauguration of BKT’s rebuilt European headquarters on 5 April.
Balkrishna Industries (BKT) has provided further details regarding its plans to build a factory in the USA. With a capital outlay of up to US$100 million, funded by investments and local debt, the tyre maker intends to establish a greenfield facility with an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes.
John Evankovich has been inducted as president of the Tire Industry Association’s (TIA) Board of Directors. He took office at the TIA annual membership meeting on 29 October and will serve a one-year term. In addition, the US-based industry association also introduced Brian Rigney (president, Dill Air Controls) as its vice-president and Dan Nothdurft (president, Tires, Tires, Tires) as secretary. Mike Wolfe (owner, Southeastern Wholesale Tire) will remain treasurer.
French football governing body Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has announced its entry into a partnership with tyre maker BKT. The off-highway tyre specialist has become naming partner to the knockout championship Coupe de la Ligue (French League Cup) for the next six seasons. As of the round of 32, the Coupe de la Ligue will be known as the Coupe de la Ligue BKT.
Every year, US-based organisation The Tire Industry Association (TIA) inducts new worthies into its Hall of Fame. As mentioned on Friday, this year the TIA welcomes two from the industry to its Hall of Fame, and off-highway tyre specialist BKT is honoured that its chairman and managing director, Arvind Poddar is one of the pair selected for this accolade. Poddar will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony, which will be held in Las Vegas on 29 October prior to the opening of the 2018 SEMA Show.
The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has announced the names of the honorees for the 2018 Hall of Fame and Ed Wagner Leadership Award. The inductions will take place at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony on Monday 29 October 29 at Paris Las Vegas Hotel.

On a 312 acre site, Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has erected one of the largest off-road tyre plants in the world, a facility capable of producing 325 tonnes of tyres per day.
