Vredestein points to strong summer tyre test showing

Vredestein representatives are highlighting the results the brand’s summer tyres have achieved in recent independent tyre tests. The Vredestein Sportrac 5 and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti were rated highly in various independent European tyre tests across dry handling, sound level and fuel consumption tests.

German car magazine Auto Bild, the German and Austrian automobile clubs ADAC and ÖAMTC, and the consumer organisation Stiftung Warentest subjected the all-round model Vredestein Sportrac 5 and the Ultra High Performance tyre Vredestein Ultrac Vorti to their multipurpose testing programmes.

Michelin a double winner at TTI Awards

The winners of this year’s Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence were announced yesterday at a ceremony in Cologne, Germany, and Michelin has come out on top in two of the five awards categories.

Cooper appoints ex-Apollo exec Ceneviz

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has appointed ex Apollo Verdestein European president Luis Ceneviz as its managing director – Latin America Tire Operations effective 1 March 2015. In this new role, Ceneviz will be responsible for the company’s business throughout Latin America, including Central and South America, as well as Mexico, where Cooper has a sales and marketing organization and participates in a joint venture tyre manufacturing operation near Guadalajara. He will report to Brad Hughes, Cooper’s chief operating officer.

Hungary confirmed for first Apollo greenfield factory outside India

Apollo has confirmed Hungary as the location for its first greenfield facility outside India. The manufacturer says that Hungary was chosen having considered some of its neighbouring Central Eastern European and Asian countries. Apollo’s latest investment, which is planned to total 475m euros over the next five years, was approved by its Board of Directors today.

Apollo Vredestein takes on Ice Bucket Challenge

Since the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral a couple of months back, millions have doused themselves with icy water and uploaded a video of the proceedings, and many of the protagonists have performed the feat as a fundraiser for non-profit organisation the ALS Association or other motor neurone disease associations. Apollo Vredestein says that ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a harsh reality for several of its employees, and therefore last Friday the tyre maker took up the Ice Bucket Challenge gauntlet cast in its direction by Revalidatiecentrum Roessingh, a rehabilitation centre based near the company’s headquarters in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Apollo to promote expanded industrial tyre range in grand European tour

Apollo Volkswagen Crafter Manchester United

Apollo will introduce its full range of industrial tyres to end users and tyre specialists in Europe with a six-month tour of the continent. Apollo Vredestein specialists will visit eight countries to introduce Apollo branded industrial tyres to as many users and dealers as possible. The company will use a specially designed Volkswagen Crafter, with dual Manchester United branding, to display almost all types, sizes and profiles of tyre during the promotional tour.

Apollo broadens its football portfolio with VfL Wolfsburg sponsorship

In UK football circles Apollo Tyres is best known for its Manchester United sponsorship, and the tyre maker now aims to replicate its Manchester experience over in Germany. Apollo Vredestein has signed up as partner to Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg for the 2014/15 season, and as national partner for the Wolfsburg men’s team and international partner for the women’s team for the 2015/16 season. In a statement announcing the deal, the company said such a sponsorship is in line with Apollo’s strategy and “should make a significant contribution to promoting the Apollo brand internationally.”

Vredestein Quatrac 5 launch designed to make a marque

On 23 June Apollo Vredestein introduced a new generation of all-season tyres – the Vredestein Quatrac 5. In parallel the company also launched the new Snowtrac 5 winter tyre. However, as much as the launch was about these products and the technology associated with them, there was also a heavy emphasis on further communicating the upwardly mobile so-called “brand emotion” the company has work hard to associated with its name during the last two decades. The launch could also be read as suggesting a broadening in the company’s pioneering approach to the development of the winter tyre market in the UK to include a greater role for all-season tyres.

The Techno-Classica exhibition for vintage, classic and prestige vehicles is currently taking place in Germany, and at the show Apollo Vredestein is launching its new ‘Vredestein Classic’ website. In addition to giving visitors an opportunity to get to know its classic.vredestein.com site, the tyre maker is displaying its range of Vredestein brand classic tyres at its show stand (Hall 3, Stand 437), including recent ‘Retro Rubber’ magazine test winner, the Vredestein Sprint Classic.

Vredestein has sights on OE market

At the opening of a new mixer at its factory in Enschede, The Netherlands last week, Apollo Tyres chairman Onkar Kanwar stated that marketing will be the driver of the company’s planned growth in Europe and he spoke of the “big challenges” awaiting Apollo Vredestein director of marketing Jaap van Wessum and his team. A week later, van Wessum further expounded upon Apollo Vredestein’s strategy for Europe at the Geneva Motor Show.

Stirred up for growth – Apollo Vredestein prepares for a greater European presence with new tandem mixer

Yesterday, Apollo Vredestein introduced an addition to its Enschede factory that will save energy and costs and at the same time enable the company to manufacture the products it plans to introduce in coming years. The new ‘Mixer 8’ tandem mixer was officially brought into operation by Apollo Tyres’ chairman Onkar Kanwar together with Drs Theo W. Rietkerk, who is responsible for economy, energy and innovation within the government of Overijssel Province in The Netherlands.

Lopez leaves Apollo Vredestein

Next month, Apollo Vredestein’s German operation will likely gain a new marketing manager following the departure of Michael Lopez at the end of February. Lopez is leaving the tyre maker to take on a new role within Germany’s tyre trade. A company representative told our sister publication Neue Reifenzeitung that Lopez’s decision to leave Apollo Vredestein was unexpected. Lopez has worked for Vredestein and later Apollo Vredestein for 14 years.

Apollo Tyres building UK dealer network at ‘iconic venue’ events

Apollo Vredestein UK managing director Stuart Jackson revealed several strategic details with which Apollo plans to grow its brand in the UK. Apollo is to introduce a truck and bus tyre range and expand its passenger car tyre lines into a fourth generation, with a sizeable investment in UK marketing “to support brand growth.” The tyre manufacturer will also develop its links with Manchester United, both as a partner in a sports facility initiative and as a significant branding opportunity, with video and print marketing materials featuring the purple of Apollo and the red of the Stretford team.

Maloya returns – but only in Germany for now

Vredestein has brought back its second brand with the introduction of the Maloya Quadris all-season tyre. The brand, which originated in Switzerland and gained a new homeland with its acquisition by Vredestein in 1993, was absent from the company’s portfolio for the last year and a half. At the time company officials said the name was by no means ‘dead’ and, true to their word, it has been resuscitated.
