Tyres & Accessories has just turned 70, and this is a milestone we share with something very important to us – the radial tyre. Invented by Michelin in 1946, the radial arguably represents the most important revolution in black, rubbery ring development since the introduction of the pneumatic tyre more than half a century earlier.
Trico will celebrate its centenary during Automechanika Frankfurt 2016. The original equipment manufacturer of wiper blades and systems will hold its event on Wednesday 14 September in Bornheim. The company will provide tapas and bubbly in the comfort of a private loft.
One of the UK’s most prestigious rally events celebrates two important landmarks this weekend, with its title sponsor and tyre supplier at centre stage. The Pirelli Carlisle Rally – part of the British Rally Championship 2016 following the series’ relaunch – runs its 40th edition, and 25th under the Italian manufacturer’s name. Pirelli said its British Rally Championship stars would fight to deliver a victory on the home ground of high-speed gravel roads in the Kielder Forest. The rally consists of seven stages over Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, totalling 75 competitive miles.
Chinese tyre manufacturer Triangle Tyre celebrated its 40th anniversary on 8 April. According to the company, over the past 40 years, Triangle Tyre has enjoyed “a big improvement in the tyre production” both in terms of quality and quantity.
Heuver Tyrewholesale is half a century old this year, and the company says it will “not allow this important milestone to go unnoticed.” It has therefore come up with a number of customer promotions for 2016 and also intends to place greater emphasis on being Europe’s most customer-friendly tyre wholesaler. This aim has led to a fine-tuning of Heuver Tyrewholesale’s existing internal objectives concerning customer contact.
Profit from Training Partnership celebrates its 20th anniversary on 2 January 2016, with the adoption of a new updated logo and a change of name. In the future the training company will be known as PFTP Ltd.

10 years after Bridgestone bought Bulldog, the retreading market is a different place. A decade ago passenger car retreading was still going on (albeit some way from its peak). At the same Chinese tyres were present, but in nowhere near the current quantities – and in some cases they were being sold at the same or higher prices they are now. On top of this many more retreading operations were running than there are today.
Tyre Bay Direct has celebrated 10 years in business. Now a family run business, Tyre Bay Direct was formed in 2005 by Roger Stote, becoming a name associated with nitrogen tyre inflation systems. Today Tyre Bay Direct have nitrogen tyre inflation systems installed in over 1,200 tyre shops and fast fit centres across the UK and Europe.
General Tire turns 100 years old in 2015, and the Continental-owned brand will mark its centenary with its UK distributor Micheldever with an event at Jaguar Land Rover’s Gaydon facility later in the year. The partnership between General and its distributor is itself celebrating a landmark year.
Michelin North America has celebrated half a century of partnership with the retailer it says has not only sold more Michelin tyres than any other, but also introduced the radial tyre into the USA. Department store chain Sears signed an agreement with Michelin in 1965 to sell Michelin radials under the Allstate trademark, a deal that kicked off a collaboration that has now seen more than 135 million tyres sold through Sears outlets.
During 2015 Micheldever is celebrating 20 years of partnership with Coninental-owned brand General Tire. What began as a supply contract between the pre-Continental General Tire and the pre-Micheldever 4×4 tyre wholesale specialist, Southam Tyres, has blossomed into a successful ongoing relationship over the years.
Singapore-based Stamford Tyres Corporation Limited recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of partnership with Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI).
This week marks 80 years since the introduction of the driving test in Great Britain. The test became compulsory on 1 June 1935. In 1934 there were just 1.5 million cars in use, but over 7,000 people were killed on the country’s roads. Within a year of the introduction of the test, the number of deaths had fallen by 1,000, and has continued to improve.
