Tronchetti wins corporate social responsibility award

The longest-serving Goodyear employee. Sidney Richardson, recently celebrated his 70th year of working at Goodyear’s Gadsen tyre factory in Alabama. Richardson – also known within the plant as ‘Legend’ – began working at the Gadsen factory on 22 June 1943, aged 17. To celebrate his achievement, the plant planned a cookout for employees. Richardson received a special coin from Goodyear CEO Richard Kramer and a certificate of recognition from Alabama Governor Robert Bentley.
Pirelli has introduced the latest addition to its P Zero family: the new Pirelli P Zero Nero GT. Available in a wide range of fitments, the new ultra high performance tyre was introduced for 2013. The tyre’s headline improvement is increased durability, which Pirelli says it has achieved without affecting driving pleasure, safety and performance. Also underlining the importance of the high performance segment to Pirelli is May 2013’s 50th anniversary celebration of its partnership with Lamborghini.
How time flies. It seems like just the other day that William Harley and the Davidson brothers were tinkering about in a machine shop in Milwaukee, but the motorcycle brand that bears their names has now reached the ripe old age of 110. Harley-Davidson intends to celebrate this milestone throughout the year, and Dunlop has been chosen as the official tyre sponsor of the company’s global anniversary events.
Competing in its 125th anniversary year, Dunlop tyres have had another successful week at the Isle of Man TT. 14 out of 15 podium places used its tyres and three lap records were set in the Superbike, Supersport and Superstock classes respectively.
Yokohama has been selected as original equipment tyre provider by Audi and Mercedes-Benz for a number of the German brands’ latest high performance cars. The newest addition to Yokohama’s high performance range, the recently-unveiled Advan Sport V105, has been adopted by both on some of their most rewarding drivers’ cars. Additionally Yokohama tyres were used recently to break a Nürburgring Nordschleife record for the fastest road-legal Subaru Impreza around the Green Hell. Built by Yokohama partner Revolution Motorstore in the UK, the Impreza was driven to and from the Nordschleife having lapped the circuit in 7:53.08.
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., carried out a "Heisei Forest" tree planting event on 18 May to support recovery of Otsuchi-cho, Kamihei-gun, Iwate prefecture, one of the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. 553 participants, including 160 Otsuchi-cho residents, planted about 5,000 broad-leaved evergreen seedlings indigenous to the local area. Together with guests, including Otsuchi Mayor Yutaka Ikarigawa, representatives of supporting companies, Dr. Akira Miyawaki (plant ecologist) and former F1 driver Ukyo Katayama, 245 people from Yokohama Rubber attended the event, including chairman and CEO Tadanobu Nagumo, President Hikomitsu Noji and 54 employee volunteers.
Triangle and TYM International have jointly announced the Chinese tyre manufacturer’s purchase of a 10 per cent share of its UK distributor’s business. TYM International general manager, Steve Eke and Triangle Group board chairman, Ding Yuhua exchanged documents during the Triangle Group’s 2013 Global Business Summit at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, Shanghai on 18 May. The purchase is currently subject to ratification by the Commerce Department of the Chinese Government, though both parties are confident that the deal will proceed smoothly. This year marks the tenth anniversary of TYM’s distribution of Triangle passenger car, truck and bus, and off-the-road products and Eke told Tyrepress.com that he was very pleased to have converted “the customer-supplier relationship into a partner relationship.”
The Falken Motorsports team has its sights on a top 10 ranking as it makes its way to the starting grid for its 14th Nürburgring 24 Hours. The team will take an upgraded Porsche 911 GT3 R to compete against a field of over 200 entrants. Falken is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, adopting the motto: “30 Years of Performance”.

Cordenka celebrated 75 tyre cord manufacturing on 25 April 2013. The company’s Obernburg location has been producing technical viscose yarn under the Cordenka name since 1938. And for the seven and half decades since then its products have been used as reinforcing material for tyres and other technical rubber goods.
Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. has announced its plans to build a new head office in Itami, Hyogo Prefecture next to the site of its Tire Technical Center. The Japanese manufacturer, whose current head office is in Osaka said that the company plans to relocate in August 2015, the month in which Toyo will celebrate its 70th anniversary.
Three times BTCC winner, Matt Neal, is to judge Dunlop’s annual car livery competition. The Europe wide competition aims to find a winning livery for the Dunlop Ferrari that will race in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
Motorsport and car fans, design students and artists (aged 16 years and over*) from across Europe are invited to take part. Each country will have a competition with four entries put forward to the European final. Dunlop is proud to announce that Matt Neal will choose the best four UK designs as part of this pan European competition.
Organisers have announced that the 2013 International Rubber Research & Development Board (IRRDB) conference will ask “Are we ready for Green Technologies?” The event is being held in London and is scheduled to run 24 – 26 June 2013. The conference has been organised jointly by the IRRDB, Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) and its UK–based research facility the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC).
The Isle of Man TT, Post-TT races and Ulster GP and North West 200 are amongst the racing activities Metzeler has planned for its anniversary year. The tyre maker, which started in 1863 as a firm selling rubber and elastic goods in the German city of Munich, says it will hold a ‘Road Racing’ summer spectacular to mark its century and a half.
Celebrating their 75th anniversary, staff at MAC Tools, the automotive division of Stanley Black & Decker, raised an impressive £4,100 through an auction in aid of BEN, the automotive industry charity. Tony Prueitt, UK Commercial Director of the Industrial & Automotive Division, invited Peter Cottle, BEN's Head of Business Development, to outline the charity's role for all franchisees attending their annual conference. Peter ensured everyone understood the breadth of support available to anyone who works, or has worked, in all automotive and related industries, as well as their dependents.
