The Borbet wheel factory in Solingen, Germany will close on 31 December 2022. The wheel manufacturer told its workforce on Monday 28 November at a works meeting. Around 600 employees are affected. All previous attempts to find an economically viable future for the location had failed. A transfer company will be set up.
After a two-year absence due to the pandemic, the Ronal Group is returning to the Essen Motor Show to present both its Ronal and Speedline Corse brands of wheels. In addition new products from these brands, visitors will see the Energy Wheel concept, the exactly meaning of which is being revealed on-show.
Essen Motor Show 2022 takes place from 3-11 December. As in every other year, the visitors can vote for their favourite wheel in the associated World Wheel Award 2023. The awards see wheel manufacturers with the most votes make it to the final round which is an online voting at VAU-MAX.de. There, “the most beautiful and elegant wheel” becomes the winner of the World Wheel Award 2023.
From 1 January 2023, Michael Wellenzohn will become chief executive officer of alloy wheel manufacturer Borbet, the first non-family member to hold this position in the company’s history. Wellenzohn succeeds Margot Borbet, CEO since 2019, who in future will head the Borbet Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Borbet has a new rim for light commercial vehicles and caravans. The Borbet CWZ design is a five double-spoke design suitable for vehicles with wheel loads of up to 1,250 kilogrammes such as the VW Crafter, Amarok, T5 and T6, Mercedes V-Class and the new EQV all-electric people carrier as well as the Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and MAN TGE.
Wheelwright Limited’s management team recently acquired the company from previous managing director Kevin Greer through a management buyout process. According to the company, “this means that Wheelwright Limited is now owned and operated by the same team of experienced enthusiasts that helped the Kent-based company achieve its existing position as the country’s leading supplier of aftermarket wheels and chassis-related products.”
Ronal Group is now offering its Ronal R64 rim in an additional finish, Jetblack. This complements the Silver and Jetblack-matt-front diamond cut finishes that have been available since the rim’s launch in 2018. All three finishes are now also available in a new 16-inch version in addition to the existing 17-inch size.
The Ronal Group is launching the R68 multi-spoke wheel to complement its aftermarket range. The new wheel features “20 opposing yet interrelated spokes” which “merge into a single technical and visual unit”. The R68 is available with two different surface finishes – jet-black as well “hyper grey”, which is a new Ronal colour.
