Fire at UK Tyre Crushing Factory
Four fire engines were called to a blaze at a tyre crushing plant in Littleport (Cambridgeshire) on Sunday. The fire, at rubber factory Murfitts Industries Ltd., started in a compartment where the tyre cutting equipment was kept. The compartment was completely destroyed but firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading to the rest of the building. The company is the UK’s newest and most modern tyre recycling facility with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year. It accepts car, truck and agricultural tyres. The process is one of full recovery with no materials going for landfill. Murfitts Industries also provides stockpile clearance and transport service throughout the UK.
