Established in in 1958, Kirkby Tyres Ltd is amongst an elite list of leading tyre wholesalers operating in the UK and Ireland. And while the Liverpool-based family company has been around for some time, in recent years the company has demonstrated impressive and consistent growth. 2015 was no different and culminated with the firm winning “Truck and Agricultural Tyre Supplier of the Year” at the 2015 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards. Tyres & Accessories spoke with Kirkby Tyres marketing manager Adam Bromilow to find out more.
Pieter Dubois has been appointed as Heuver Tyrewholesale’s agriculture product manager. Previously employed as an account manager in Belgium and Luxembourg, Dubois said the move would allow him to return to his agricultural roots, envisaging some “fine-tuning” for the wholesaler’s existing segment team. Bertus Heuver, director Heuver Tyrewholesale, said Dubois would use “his enthusiasm and ambition to play a leading role” in the company’s agricultural operations. His appointment is also described as “the next step in [Heuver Tyrewholesale’s] planned growth scenario.
Trelleborg has been named AGCO 2015 ‘Best Quality Performance’ for China and also received the AGCO EAME 2015 ‘Supplier of the Year’ award in the “Logistics” category.

A South Kildare farmer is reportedly benefiting from minimum ground compaction after becoming the first to specify a combination of VF 710/60 R42 and VF 600/60 R30 Michelin XeoBib tyres on a Fendt Favorit 716 – believed to be the largest set of Michelin tyres ever fitted to this model of tractor in Ireland.
Off-highway tyre maker ATG brought several new innovations to the Agritechnica show earlier this month. These included its new VF (Very High Flexion) sprayer tyre, the Alliance 354 AgriFlex+. Amongst the tractor and combine harvester tyres on display were the new Alliance 376 MultiStar IF (Improved Flexion) and the large volume 378 AgriStar XL. The flotation and agri-transport category was represented by the Alliance 380VF and 390MPT flotation radials plus the new 885 Flotation Radial in a 26.5 inch rim diameter.
A trio of new Vredestein agricultural tyres were presented at the recent Agritechnica show in Germany. These were the Traxion Harvest tyre for harvesters and the Traxion Versa and Endurion for telescopic handlers, backhoe loaders and compact loaders.
Amongst the new releases at this year’s Agritechnica show were Michelin’s new connected agricultural tyres. The French manufacturer claims a world first with the launch of these electronic chip-equipped products and views them as a means of optimising performance. Stated benefits include better tyre management and traceability throughout the entire lifecycle, a means of communication between tyre, machine and user, and the ability to utilise smartphone-enhanced features such as Michelin Flash Services.
Starting next January, Mitas a.s. will begin to roll out the Mitas Premium line in the agricultural tyre aftermarket. This focus on Mitas Premium has resulted in the discontinuation of the Mitas RD range, however these tyres will remain in production. The Mitas RD line-up will be transferred to the Cultor portfolio; the range will be known as Cultor RD and will be the first agricultural radial products sold under the Cultor brand name.
Michelin’s second line Kleber brand is presenting three additional dimensions of its Topker agricultural tyres for middle and high performance machines at Agritechnica. For the rear axle, the new 710/70R38 Topker with a 1.95m diameter is designed for tractors with a capacity from 180-240hp. Trelleborg has signed an agreement to acquire the Czech Republic’s CGS Holding a.s. for approximately 10.9 billion Swedish Krona (£830 million) on a cash and debt-free basis. The privately-owned company is active in the agricultural and specialty tyre business segments, including the strong Mitas tyre brand, as well as engineered polymer solutions. Closing of the transaction is subject to approvals from relevant competition authorities and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2016.
Following the recent launch of its new Agrixtra agricultural tyre range, Maxam Tire is exhibiting at Agritechnica for the first time. Held in Hannover, Germany between 8-11 November, Maxam’s newly appointed global MD, Martin West, said the company is “delighted to be attending and exhibiting at Agritechnica.”
Trelleborg has manufactured its first agricultural tyre in North America, marking the start of operations at its new production facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. The 40,000sqm production facility is Trelleborg’s first in North America dedicated to the manufacture of premium radial tyres for agricultural machinery. The facility boasts state-of-the-art machinery designed according to the latest Trelleborg technology standards.
Trelleborg will support the Tractor of The Year awards as official partner for a further four years, further strengthening its strategic partnership. The agricultural tyre and wheel supplier was the awards’ first sponsor in 2012, and has remained in place every year since.
Following its original equipment launch in 2015, Mitas Premium will replace the Continental brand for rear radial agricultural tyres on the replacement market in January 2016. Mitas Premium tyres will be gradually phased in worldwide for purchase from local Mitas dealers. The manufacturer added that Mitas Premium tyres bear the same technical specifications as Continental agri tyres, which Mitas has manufactured under license since 2004.
