Vredestein wins Gold at AutoVision 2019

After examining 291 finalists, an independent expert commission appointed by the German Agricultural Society (DLG) has selected the Agritechnica 2019 Innovation Award winners. In addition to bestowing a single Gold Award, the judging panel has given the Silver Award to 39 firms who’ve brought innovative products to market in the past couple of years. One such firm is Alliance Tire Europe, which received a Silver Award for its Alliance 398 MPT high speed flotation tyre. Alliance Tire is the only tyre maker to be awarded.
Nex Tires has been named official distributor for the newly-returned Goodyear Farm Tires brand in the Spanish market. The agricultural tyre supplier will stock the full Goodyear agri radial range.
The bag of goodies Continental is bringing to Agritechnica 2019 includes a new intelligent tyre that’ll be unveiled during the show. The TractorMaster H – the suffix stands for Hybrid – is equipped with VF technology and sensors that continuously measure and monitor tyre pressure and temperature. Continental is introducing the TractorMaster H in response to the trend towards fully-automated agricultural vehicles and machinery that rely upon component monitoring systems. It comments that the use of smart tyres increases productivity, yield, and operator comfort while reducing fuel consumption, tyre wear, and downtime and maintenance costs.
Japanese tyre and rubber manufacturer Yokohama is planning to invest into and even buy Prometeon, the new name for the former Pirelli commercial and industrial tyre manufacturing operation, according to a range of sources. Tyres & Accessories first heard this news in July and then the Italian financial press subsequently suggested that Prometeon’s shareholders were considering restructuring Prometeon’s ownership. Yokohama is understood to be leading the suitors. The official Yokohama/Prometeon investment announcement is expected during the course of the next week or so.

Sri Lanka-based speciality tyre manufacturer GRI reports that it has acquired the Estonia-based Nortire Group. Headquartered in Estonia, with a branch in Latvia and two branches in Lithuania, Nortire is a speciality tyre distributor. According to GRI, the acquisition will further expand the GRI’s global tyre service network, while attaining a significant foothold in the North European tyre market. The news follows a non-acquisition Middle East strategic partnership with Al-Dobowi in April 2019.

Nokian Tyres says it has taken the first step towards digital, real-time tyre management with the launch of Nokian Tyres Intuitu. This new digital monitoring system combines sensor-equipped tyres with a mobile application that records the sensor data, keeping the user informed about vital tyre pressure and temperature. Intuitu will initially be available for agricultural and contracting tyres, however Nokian Tyres intends to extend the system to its entire commercial tyre range.
Ceat Specialty will launch two new agricultural tyres at the Agritechnica 2019 show in November, the Ceat Torquemax for high-powered tractors and the Ceat Yieldmax combine harvester tyre.

The likelihood of seeing BKT tyres ‘Made in the USA’ appears even more uncertain following an earnings call held by Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) on 13 August. Although the tyre maker reported three days earlier that the 20,000 tonne per annum factory project was just “in abeyance”, comments made during the call suggest the pause on work is more than temporary.
